About Dawn Mitchell...
Position: 5th Grade
My name is Dawn Mitchell. Before becoming a teacher, I worked for several community education programs holding jobs in various capacities. I have had experiences in teaching first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grades. I began my teaching career in the Tempe Elementary School District teaching in a dual language program. Tarwater has been my home since 1999 and I must admit I’ve enjoyed all of the staff, students, and families that I’ve encountered here. I'm thrilled to be partnering with Mr. Chris Yao in the Mandarin dual language program here at Tarwater Elementary.
My Education and Professional Background
I received a Bachelor of Arts in English, at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona and a Master of Arts in Teaching, from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.
Sheltered English Immersion (SEI)
My Educational Philosophy
Every year, I look forward to getting to know an amazing community of learners. Since student learning styles and abilities can vary greatly in the classroom, my role as an educator is to teach to the needs of each learner. I believe that all students want to feel capable and successful. My ultimate goal is that each student leave my classroom with those two valuable gifts. With proper motivation and connecting curriculum to inspire life-long learning, I feel I can help guide students to achieve their full potential and a path to success.
