Welcome to 5th grade Language Arts!
My Education and Professional Background
I earned my Master's Degree from Northern Arizona University in Curriculum and Instruction in 2009. I also became a Certified Spalding Teacher. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with an ELL endorsement. I began my teaching career in 4th grade in the Gilbert School District, then I transferred to CTA Independence when it opened in 2006. I have also taught 3rd and 6th grade. I am thrilled to be teaching 5th grade at such an incredible school. I was born in Texas, but spent most of my elementary educational years moving since my family liked traveling and new adventures. I moved from Texas to California, Colorado, and Rhode Island, finally settling in Oklahoma. I met my husband while attending the University of Oklahoma. We moved to beautiful Arizona in 1998, and are raising two wonderful boys and a sweet Boston Terrier. I love to go the movies, travel, read, and spend time with family.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that every child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring and stimulating environment in which to grow intellectually and socially. Students will reach high expectations when they are given support, encouragement, and genuine feedback and praise.
