Andersen Elementary - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Guadalupe Meza, Andersen custodian, who wrote a children's book called Family's Wings about a group of owls that is based on the family of owls that lives at Andersen Elementary. The book has been published and is available for purchase through Amazon!
Andersen Elementary - (2019-2020) In August, new Andersen Elementary teachers attended a two day training on Project Lead the Way to incorporate real world STEM into their classrooms.
Andersen Elementary - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Jahayah Lane from Christie Clemente's 4th grade class who was one among nineteen winners out of over 700 entries in the City of Chandler Environmental Art Contest. Jahaya's work will be displayed in the City of Chandler calendar next year. The contest is designed to illustrate the importance of reducing waste, conserving water and preventing pollution. It is also an opportunity for students to learn more about environmental stewardship in their community and can become a catalyst for environmental education in the classroom. Andersen Elementary - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Andersen Elementary, honored as one of only 214 elementary schools in the U.S. as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School, recognized for providing broad access to transformative learning opportunities for students through its Launch PLTW programs. Whether designing a car safety belt or building digital animations based on their own short stories, PLTW Launch students engage in critical and creative thinking, build teamwork skills, and develop a passion for and confidence in STEM subjects. Andersen Elementary - (2018-2019) Andersen Elementary celebrated Character Day for the beginning of literacy week in March. Kindergartners dressed the part!

Andersen Elementary - (2018-2019) Andersen Elementary students were excited to welcome the Crayola experience to Chandler last week. The new Crayola store is opening up in Chandler mall next summer.

Andersen Elementary - (2017-2018) Congratulations to Andersen teacher Christine Macdonald, winner of the Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers grant in the amount of $5,000 for the purchase of tablets for her classroom. Chris will be recognized on December 26, 2017 during halftime festivities at the Cactus Bowl. Chris was one of 120 winners chosen from over 4,200 grant applicants! We are so happy for her and her students!

Andersen Elementary - (2016-2017) Our librarian, Kelly Heitic, was awarded a $3,500 grant from the Arizona Cardinals to purchase Maker Space materials for our media center. This area will offer our students an opportunity to create intellectual and physical materials using resources such as computers, 3D printers, Lego materials, audio and video-capture and editing tools, and traditional arts and craft supplies.

Andersen Elementary - (2016-2017) Andersen Elementary is proud to announce a new program being implemented during the 2016-17 school year called The Leader in Me, based on Stephen Covey's book, the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. The Leader in Me is a leadership operating system that is developed over time in a school setting to create a culture that embodies the 7 Habits. Every student is a leader in some way, and it is our responsibility to find the potential in all of our students. The Leader in Me website
Andersen Elementary - (2016-2017) We have partnered with Intel to bring Project Lead the Way (PLTW), the nation's leading provider of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math,) to our students and staff, K-5. PLTW taps into your student's exploratory nature, engages them in learning that feels like play, and encourages lifelong discovery by using hands-on challenges, such as: designing a robot that delivers supplies at a hospital; constructing a rescue method for a trapped zoo animal; developing a tablet game; and more! Andersen Elementary - (2015-2016) We are pleased to announce that one of Andersen Elementary's 4th graders, Claire Jones, was chosen to have her artwork included in the City of Chandler's yearly calendar for 2017. The City of Chandler uses its Environmental Art Contest and calendar to promote community awareness and education about recycling, water conservation, and storm water pollution prevention. Andersen Elementary - (2015-2016) Claire Jones was selected as one of nineteen winners in this year's City of Chandler Environmental Art Contest. Claire, along with her teacher, Christie Clemente, will be recognized at the City Council Chambers in April.
Andersen Elementary - (2015-2016) Andersen Garden Club: Our garden is growing well this year. We have planted tomatoes, corn, musk melon, peppers, flowers, egg plant, watermelon, Indian corn, strawberries, and pumpkins. We have been learning about the water cycle and plants. The students help plant, weed, and care for the garden. We have also conducted a few investigations. The next thing we are going to do is have the students create their our mini-gardens and terrains using recycled materials.
Andersen Elementary - (2015-2016) Andersen Elementary 4th Grade student, Helen Aker, won first place for her video on diversity themed "The Colors of Equality" through the City of Chandler at the Celebration of Unity. Andersen Elementary - (2015-2016) Valerie Zieglowsky works with UofA Nutrition department that rewards teachers with health related prizes for their classrooms for teaching heath each month in the classroom.

Andersen Elementary - (2015-2016) We are currently training for the Project Lead The Way program and will implement in the 2016-2017 school year. The program is STEM-focused (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). We are one of three (3) schools in Arizona to receive a grant from Intel to provide the necessary funding and training to support the program.
