Congratulations to CTA Liberty school spelling bee champion 6th grader Raania Khan who placed in the top eleven at the district spelling bee, held on January 13 at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Raania now moves on to compete in the regional spelling bee on February 8 in Queen Creek.

At CTA Liberty, students earn dog tags through the library's reward system for earning certain point goals. William is in Liberty's Kindergarten Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program, and he earned his first dog tag from the library for reading and testing on books to earn 10 points in the Accelerated Reader program. This is rarely accomplished by kindergarteners, so we were very proud of William!

Sixth Graders Ava Lira (left) and Anna Schwarz (right) were both award winners for the Chandler Elks Lodge #2429 Division 1 Essay Contest, "How can Patriotism be Demonstrated?" Out of 144 essay entries from students all over the city, Ava was award 1st place and Anna was awarded second place. They will be honored at a special Elks Lodge award banquet on May 12. Ava Lira also took 3rd Place at the state competition!

May the 4th Be with You! Third grade students celebrated May 4th by working together to code their own Star Wars video game in the technology lab. Featuring R2-D2 and other Star Wars characters, students were guided through events, then given space to create their own game.

Fourth grade teacher Leanne Prater challenged her students to read 40 books in their Accelerated Reader level, in all the reading genres. After completing 20 books, students were treated to a free book of their choice! After 40 books were completed, Mrs. Prater treated them to lunch of their choice. Readers are LEADERS!! CTA Liberty Student Council challenged every Eagle to write a card for a hero! Over 500 cards will be delivered to local doctors, nurses, firefighters, police, and military personnel.

She received a framed certificate and $500 from the Sun Lakes Rotary, sponsored by Trust Bank and Earnhardt Auto Centers. Quilts for Veterans Lucy and Victor Arroya, grandparents of students Logan and Luca Hill, along with St. George Quilting Group made 50 quilts to be shared with our veterans during our celebration next school year. They presented veteran Principal Smith his own veteran quilt.

Congratulations to winners in the 2021 City of Chandler Creative Expression Competition from CTA Liberty. Essay winners (K-4 Category): Aaron Nguyen, 2nd place; and Bernice Ezealah, 3rd place. CTA Liberty has been participating in bully prevention month. The students are learning about what bullying is, how to recognize, and stop or prevent it. They are also developing a plan of action so if they see or are bullied they know what to do. CTA Liberty wore orange on Wednesday for Inclusion Day to show they are UNTIED against bullying and they will promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.

Superintendent's Student Citizenship Award winner: Henry Bridwell has been a Liberty Eagle since kindergarten. Now a 6th grader, he exemplifies everything a Liberty Eagle should be: Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. Henry is outgoing, energetic, helpful and kind to his classmates and teachers. A leader in the classroom, he conscientiously strives for excellence, and always looks to assist, support, encourage, and collaborate with his peers.

Congratulations to CTA Liberty teacher Carlie Ramirez who was awarded a $500 grant from SRP and the Arizona Cardinals Touchdown for Teachers program. Ms. Ramirez has a diverse classroom where she gets to work with students from kindergarten to sixth grade. She plans to use the funds to improve her classroom with more hands-on material. Congratulations to Paeton Farr whose Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest entry was selected as the school winner for CTA Liberty. For over 30 years, Lions clubs around the globe have sponsored this international art contest to give children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. Audrey was awarded a certificate and cash prize from the Sun Lakes Lion's Club, sponsored by Intel.

Liberty celebrates their veterans with pride! Mr. Anthony Smith, principal, led the school in a salute to over 45 veterans visiting Liberty for our Veterans Day 2019 celebration. The salute included 4th, 5th and 6th graders sharing their essays and poems, 1st and 2nd graders reading the Veterans Day Proclamation, and visiting KSLX DJ, Mr. Mark Devine, announcing the veterans names and branch of service. Liberty also recognized our veterans who are no longer with us in a Field of Remembrance. We thank all of our veterans and their families for their service. In celebration of the kick-off the college football season, staff and students of CTA Liberty proudly wore their favorite college colors to school on Friday, August 30. It was fun to see the wide variety schools represented -- from ASU (go, Devils!) and UofA, to Penn State, Michigan, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin!

Kindergartners in Miss Freeman's class met their 5th grade buddies from Mrs. Hight's class. They introduced themselves and drew a picture of each other. What a great time to build a community across grade levels while also teaching 5th graders responsibility and caring character traits!

In Spanish, verb conjugations can make your head spin, because there are so many patterns to learn -- much more than in English. In 4th grade Spanish, Kyle and his peers showed their Spanish fluency, being able to instantly weave between plural verbs and singular verbs, "us" verbs and "them" verbs. Who knew speaking Spanish could be so easy? Keep on soaring, Liberty eagles!
