Congratulations to winners in the 2021 City of Chandler Creative Expression Competition from CTA Liberty. Essay winners (K-4 Category): Aaron Nguyen, 2nd place; and Bernice Ezealah, 3rd place. CTA Liberty and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) recognized two 6th graders for outstanding writing. Our Sixth graders participated in the "Patriotism to Me Writing Contest" sponsored by the VFW. Liberty had two winners at 6th grade (competing with 7th and 8th graders). Second Place at the Post Level went to Raenon Parson. He received a certificate and medal along with a $100 scholarship prize. Third Place at the Post Level went to Adrian Aguilar. He received a certificate and medal along with a $75 scholarship prize. CTA Liberty has been participating in bully prevention month. The students are learning about what bullying is, how to recognize, and stop or prevent it. They are also developing a plan of action so if they see or are bullied they know what to do. CTA Liberty wore orange on Wednesday for Inclusion Day to show they are UNTIED against bullying and they will promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.

Superintendent's Student Citizenship Award winner: Henry Bridwell has been a Liberty Eagle since kindergarten. Now a 6th grader, he exemplifies everything a Liberty Eagle should be: Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. Henry is outgoing, energetic, helpful and kind to his classmates and teachers. Congratulations to CTA Liberty teacher Carlie Ramirez who was awarded a $500 grant from SRP and the Arizona Cardinals Touchdown for Teachers program. Ms. Ramirez has a diverse classroom where she gets to work with students from kindergarten to sixth grade. She plans to use the funds to improve her classroom with more hands-on material. Congratulations to Paeton Farr whose Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest entry was selected as the school winner for CTA Liberty. For over 30 years, Lions clubs around the globe have sponsored this international art contest to give children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. Audrey was awarded a certificate and cash prize from the Sun Lakes Lion's Club, sponsored by Intel.

Liberty celebrates their veterans with pride! Mr. Anthony Smith, principal, led the school in a salute to over 45 veterans visiting Liberty for our Veterans Day 2019 celebration. The salute included 4th, 5th and 6th graders sharing their essays and poems, 1st and 2nd graders reading the Veterans Day Proclamation, and visiting KSLX DJ, Mr. Mark Devine, announcing the veterans names and branch of service. Liberty also recognized our veterans who are no longer with us in a Field of Remembrance. We thank all of our veterans and their families for their service. It was fun to see the wide variety schools represented -- from ASU (go, Devils!) and UofA, to Penn State, Michigan, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin!

Kindergartners in Miss Freeman's class met their 5th grade buddies from Mrs. Hight's class. They introduced themselves and drew a picture of each other. What a great time to build a community across grade levels while also teaching 5th graders responsibility and caring character traits!

In Spanish, verb conjugations can make your head spin, because there are so many patterns to learn -- much more than in English. In 4th grade Spanish, Kyle and his peers showed their Spanish fluency, being able to instantly weave between plural verbs and singular verbs, "us" verbs and "them" verbs. Who knew speaking Spanish could be so easy? Keep on soaring, Liberty eagles!

During the first few weeks back from winter break, in conjunction with the book, How To Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich: 15 Steps to accomplishing just about anything in business and life, students at CTA Goodman, CTA Liberty, and Knox Gifted Academy wrote down the steps to making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They then walked through the steps and realized some were missing when they tried to follow them. They talked about New Year's resolutions, school related goals, and the importance of knowing and following all of the steps to achieve them.

Congratulations to 6th graders Jillian Douglas and Julia Lyman who were selected for the Chandler Unified School District Honor Orchestra. Julia was 1st chair viola, and Jillian was 3rd chair viola. CTA Liberty's science fair was a huge success. A large gathering of families and students enjoyed the class experiments from Kindergarten - 4th grade that were displayed, as well as the small group projects from 5th and 6th grade. Liberty's Robotics Club showcased their robots, Basha High School's Science Club presented some great experiments and experiences to establish that "Science is Fun, " and Mrs. Whitmire had coding projects completed by 6th graders along with coding games.

Our running club runners competed in their last race of the season. We had some tough competition, but we still had some of our runners place in the top five. Congratulations to sixth grader, Jay Skyles, for being named CTA Liberty's Superintendent's Outstanding Citizenship Award Winner for 2017-18. Jay was selected based on his academic achievements and excellence in the classroom, his outstanding character and integrity as a fellow Liberty Eagle, and for being a well-rounded individual who displays excellent leadership and citizenship in school and within his community.

Representatives from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society were at Liberty to present ALL the Liberty Eagles with a special award. First, a big check acknowledging that our school has donated and contributed over $29,000 to fight blood cancer. Additionally, our school was honored with the 2017 Silver Medalist Award for raising $5,955.97 during the 2016-2017 Pennies for Patients Drive. We are so proud of the big hearts our Liberty Eagles have for beating cancer.
