Andersen Junior High - (2019-2020) Andersen Junior High is focusing on equity with more inclusive activities for all students. Andersen all-stars participated with Heather Henrichs eighth grade science class to complete a dry ice experiment last week.
Andersen Junior High - (2018-2019) Andersen Junior High ThinSat Rocket Launches into Space! Northrop Grumman (previously Orbital) launched the Antares rocket last week. Andersen Junior High was the only school in Arizona selected to participate in the ThinSat Program, guaranteeing them a spot on this rocket launch. The rocket will release the satellite to orbit Earth for five to ten days, collecting data on atmospheric pressure, temperature, velocity, altitude, and UV light. Students in Joe Badala's class launched prototypes on a helium balloon on campus to collect low atmospheric data. Gearing up for this rocket launch, students conducted a series of these launches, tethering some balloons and releasing others. They also sent a prototype on a weather balloon. Andersen Junior High - (2018-2019) Scot Lewis was named the 2018-19 Chandler Online Academy Teacher of the Year. Scot teaches Music Appreciation and Junior High Exploring Music. Scot is currently the director of bands at Andersen Junior High.
Andersen Junior High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Andersen Junior High student Cole Stockstad who was selected by the Mayor's Committee on Disabilities as the Chandler Student of Year! Every year, the Committee selects students who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in the Chandler special needs community for their hard work and contributions. Cole was honored by the mayor at a ceremony at the Chandler City Council Chambers on March 11.
Cole has received dozens of Chandler Special Olympics medals, participating in basketball, soccer, track and swimming. He plays clarinet in the school band and is an active member of student council, book club and anime club. He enters the school’s talent show each year, last year winning 3rd place. Andersen Junior High - (2017-2018) The Andersen Junior High Choir, led by Verónica Morales, put on a wonderful holiday choir concert in December.
Andersen Junior High - (2017-2018) Thank you to Orbital for sponsoring the ThinSat Program! Andersen Junior High will be launching a satellite into space to collect and analyze data. This project begins in January 2018, and there are three phases to be completed before our satellite is launched into space in January of 2019.
Andersen Junior High - (2017-2018) AJHS Booster Club sponsored a movie and paint night at Andersen Junior High. Andersen students and families came to watch Elf on the big screen and paint pottery from As You Wish.
Andersen Junior High - (2016-2017) Congratulations to Ms. Henrichs who wrote an outstanding grant application to support cross-curricular learning with Science and PE and was awarded an SRP learning grant for $5,000. With this grant she will be purchasing 15 iPads, covers and a charging cart for the classroom! The students here at AJHS will now be able to track lab data in real time and utilize some advanced technology to support what they are doing in the classroom.
Andersen Junior High - (2016-2017) Thank you to the Chandler fire fighters who came to visit AJHS on April 18th and did a mini-CPR lesson with our students. They have been coming to AJHS for years to give our students some valuable experience with CPR.

Andersen Junior High - (2012-2013) Arizona State Band and Orchestra Directors Association Concert Band Festival honors: Andersen Junior High's eighth grade concert band, under the direction of teacher Scot Lewis, received a rating of 'Superior.' Willis Junior High's symphonic band, under the direction of teacher John Studzinski, received a rating of 'Superior with Distinction' and Payne Junior High's concert and symphonic bands, under the direction of teacher Deanna Kirchoff, both received an 'Excellent' rating.
Andersen Junior High - (2012-2013) It was a clean sweep for CUSD at the state spring Knowledge Bowl competition. CUSD junior high's took the top four spots leading with Bogle at No. 1, followed by Payne, Willis and Andersen.
Andersen Junior High - (2012-2013) Neil Roach and his Andersen Junior High Angels club raised $3,398.44 for the Feed My Starving Children organization during a nine-day coin/cash drive. The Angels then did a two-hour food packing session at Feed My Starving Children, where they packed enough food to feed 39 malnourished children for a whole year.
Andersen Junior High - (2012-2013) Andersen Junior High 'Andersen Angels' and sponsor, Neil Roach, spearheaded a food drive to benefit the Chandler Care Center. Andersen students donated 3,370 food items to be delivered to the Chandler CARE Center.
Andersen Junior High - (2012-2013) Si Se Puede honored nine educators from CUSD at the 13th annual Cesar Chavez recognition and awards dinner March 30 at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Resort. Andersen Junior High had one recipient at this year's awards: Brenda Ramos.

Of the 41 schools only 5 have received the award twice so AJHS is one of only 5 schools. And since 2003 AJHS is the only jr. high to have received the award twice.

Andersen Junior High - (2011-2012) Andersen Junior High media specialist Chris Hales was named the Chairman of the Scholastic Book Fairs Customer Advisory Board over the summer at headquarters in Lake Mary, Florida. He is one of 16 board members from various regions of the United States who give Scholastic Book Fairs comments and suggestions for improving fairs.
Andersen Junior High - (2011-2012) Andersen Junior High Principal Jim Anderson and his daughter Shannon Anderson of Chandler High presented at the International National Association for Single Sex Public Education (NASSPE) in Orlando. Jim also presented on single-gender education at the National Middle School Association conference in Louisville.
Andersen Junior High - (2011-2012) On Nov. 16 Andersen Junior High School held its first annual Jaguar Jog race for a cure for breast cancer. More than 300 students, staff, parents, and grandparents walked, jogged, or ran this one mile race to raise awareness for breast cancer. AJHS raised $1,000 for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure organization.

Andersen Junior High - (2010-2011) Andersen Junior High Jazz band received a rating of superior at the NAU Jazz Festival.
Andersen Junior High - (2010-2011) Andersen Junior High students competed in the state National History Day competition. Of the 3 AJHS projects that competed, 2 won medals. Jackson Nichols and Mark Doorly created a web site: Atomic Bomb: A Vote to Kill Millions. They earned 2nd place and will go on to the national competition. Ireland Mackenzie, Jessica Webb, Austin Jones and Cortney Reagle wrote and acted in a performance: 50s Rock and Roll: Was It Just Music? They won 3rd place and are alternates for the national competition.
Andersen Junior High - (2010-2011) Andersen Junior High School students made 3,400 paper cranes to help with the relief efforts in Japan. Two dollars were donated for every crane created. AJHS raised $6,800.
Andersen Junior High - (2010-2011) 2010 -- Andersen Junior High School CATS students have been doing some walking -- 1,400 miles to be exact. Students participated in a Walk-a-thon to raise more than $1,000 dollars while getting some exercise. The walk-a thon was a key component of the problem based learning activity for CATS students and also fulfilled community service hours for the IB Middle Years program. The money was donated to the Children's First Academy in Phoenix - the nation's largest school for homeless children.
Andersen Junior High - (2010-2011) 2010 -- The Andersen Angels from Andersen Junior High, a community service club, organized a pasta collection contest to benefit the United Food Bank. In less than two weeks, 34 students collected 6,400 bags or boxes of pasta.
