About Serra Spargo...
Position: 5th Grade
Welcome to Fifth Grade. My name is Serra Spargo and I could not be more delighted to be your child's teacher this year. I was born in Arizona, but grew up the majority of my life in Colorado. I love spending time outdoors with family and friends. My students are truly an extension of my own family and I look forward to building our classroom community this school year.
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated from Arizona State University in 2019 with my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduating, I taught fourth grade for two years in the Paradise Valley School District. After witnessing the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on student learning and well-being I decided to take a leave from the classroom to further my education and pursue a masters' degree in mental health counseling. After completing a year of the program, it became clear to me that my true calling was in the classroom. I believe the time I spent learning about mental health and psychology can better help me mentor, support, and meet the unique needs of each and every one of my students.
My Educational Philosophy
My Educational Philosophy is centered around creating a classroom community where every member feels safe, seen, heard and understood. I feel students learn best when they are intrinsically motivated. To facilitate in this I create lessons that are engaging and relevant to my students' real lives. As an educator, I believe in teaching the "whole" child and demonstrating learning as a life long journey of self-discovery.
