I grew up on a farm in Iowa where we had pigs, horses, goats, chickens, cows, cats, dogs, and turkeys at one time or another. I learned to drive on a tractor and was a pro at pulling the manure spreader. Sometimes I miss the smell of hay, but I sure don't miss the smell of the hog house! My husband, Mike, works for a finance company as well as the NFL. Tyler graduated from ASU and is now teaching geometry at Casteel High School. Ethan is attending ASU where he is studying sports science.
My Education and Professional Background
I earned my BA from the University of Northern Iowa in 1990 and moved to Arizona in July of that same year. I began my teaching career at Toltec Elementary (near Casa Grande) where I taught 3rd grade until 1998. I moved to Chandler and taught 1st grade for a year at Shumway, then moved to 5th grade in 1999. I earned my MA from Northern Arizona University in 2001. I joined the Patterson Pride in the fall of 2013.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that every child is able to grow and experience success, whether it be intellectually, socially, and/or emotionally. In order for growth and success to happen, the environment surrounding that student must feel safe and support risk-taking along with sharing of ideas. That means my role is to be a guide, allow curiosity to direct learning, and promote respect for others.
