Welcome!

Hello! Please allow me to introduce myself. I was raised in a teaching family in my native state of Washington. In 1987 I graduated from Central Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. I was a professional flutist for several years while I began raising a family. Since that time, I have mothered four permanent and sixteen foster children. I added two adult children in 2010 when I remarried.

My Education and Professional Background

Throughout the years I spent countless hours in schools as a volunteer, aide, and substitute teacher before I became a teacher in 2009. I worked with the emotionally disabled children for several years at Patterson before becoming a 1st-grade CTA teacher here. I have extensive experience with children who have special needs. My children have experienced physical disabilities (arthritis, dwarfism, heart problems), learning disabilities (brain injury), visual impairment (cortical blindness), I am comfortable with medical issues because of years of living in and out of hospitals. I also have experience with accellerated learners, thanks to son number two, who now works in the US Army Intelligence Division as a Ranger.

My Educational Philosophy

I regard each child as an individual with different interests and abilities. My favorite thing to do is to figure out what makes a child tick and then see how far they can go with help.

Welcome!

Welcome to First Grade! I am thrilled to be able to teach your child this year. We will be making new discoveries, learning, and growing daily. My goal is for your child to come to school excited and leave enriched.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from NAU with my Bachelors in Education. Before coming to Patterson spent 8 years teaching first grade and 2 years teaching second grade. I have been at Patterson since 2015. It is my delight and joy to teach children.

My Educational Philosophy

My goal is to instill a love of learning into every student I teach. I believe that if a student enjoys school when they are young, that love for learning will continue throughout their education. This foundation is critical in building lifelong learners. I believe we never stop learning and making new discoveries. I love to learn and am excited about our daily activities. I strive to pass that excitement onto my students. In my classroom students know they are important, valued, and capable of success.

Welcome!

Hello! My family and I moved from southern California to Arizona. I currently live in Gilbert with my husband, David, our 3 children and 3 dogs. My oldest son, Jake, is an avid reader and writer and is a recent graduate from ASU. My middle son, Nick, is attending CGCC and will be is working part time at Old Navy. He and his dad love playing sand volleyball. My youngest, Brenna, is attending NAU on a Lumberjack Scholarship. I love to read, play games with my family, swim and shop.

My Education and Professional Background

I am a graduate of California State University, Fullerton and Ottawa University. I began teaching Kindergarten in 1990. After teaching for 2 years I became a Child Abuse Counselor at an emergency shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected children. I worked in that capacity for 6 years. I then stayed home with my children for the next 6 years. When my youngest child began first grade I came back to teaching and began teaching 1st grade in 2005. In 2008 I was fortunate enough to become a 1st grade teacher at Patterson and helped open the school. In 2015 I moved up to second grade. I am so excited I did because I LOVE second grade!

My Educational Philosophy

Welcome to second grade. This will be a very important year for your child. Our classroom is a community of learners where the students support one another and everyone is treated with respect. Teamwork and cooperative learning is a very important part of our daily learning. The students will continue to learn how to be a responsible student and become more independent learners. Second grade is a time to learn good habits that will help them as they grow from year to year.It is important to me that we work as a team to make your child's experience in second grade the best it can possibly be.

My Education and Professional Background

Master's Degree/Educational Leadership/Northern Arizona University, Bachelor's Degree/Physical Education/University of South Florida, United States Air Force/Military Police/Security Forces/Operation Desert Storm Veteran, Teaching and Coaching Experience consists of over 14 years teaching and coaching students K-12 (Alternative, Special Needs, Elementary, Secondary, Head Boys Varsity Soccer Coach, Assistant Varsity Football Coach, Head Junior Varsity Football Coach, Special Olympics Coach).

My Educational Philosophy

As a Physical Education Teacher in Chandler Unified School District, my goal is to use multiple sports and activities as a tool to make a positive impact on students now and in the future. If I can teach a primary student the concept of spacial awareness, fundamental throwing, catching, and kicking skills, he or she will be prepared to participate in any youth sports organizations throughout the community. My goal is to also teach and demonstrate fair play. Secondary students will learn how to give maximum effort and demonstrate good sportsmanship with teammates and opponents regardless if they win or lose. If students are active, research says that his/her performance will improve in the classroom.

Welcome!

I grew up on a farm in Iowa where we had pigs, horses, goats, chickens, cows, cats, dogs, and turkeys at one time or another. I learned to drive on a tractor and was a pro at pulling the manure spreader. Sometimes I miss the smell of hay, but I sure don't miss the smell of the hog house! My husband, Mike, works for a finance company as well as the NFL. Tyler is at ASU studying to be a high school teacher. Ethan is a senior at Basha High.

My Education and Professional Background

I earned my BA from the University of Northern Iowa in 1990 and moved to Arizona in July of that same year. I began my teaching career at Toltec Elementary (near Casa Grande) where I taught 3rd grade until 1998. I moved to Chandler and taught 1st grade for a year at Shumway, then moved to 5th grade in 1999. I earned my MA from Northern Arizona University in 2001. I joined the Patterson Pride in the fall of 2013.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that every child is able to grow and experience success, whether it be intellectually, socially, and/or emotionally. In order for growth and success to happen, the environment surrounding that student must feel safe and support risk-taking along with sharing of ideas. That means my role is to be a guide, allow curiosity to direct learning, and promote respect for others.

Welcome!

Welcome to First Grade! My name is Dianna Chavez & I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year. This will be my 8th year at Patterson & I feel very blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community of teachers, parents, and students. I look forward to learning & growing with your child throughout the year.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from ASU in 1998 with a degree in Elementary Education with an ELL Endorsement. I started teaching right after I graduated in Mesa Public Schools where I taught First Grade for 4 years, and Second grade for one year. I continued working in Mesa Public Schools until I had my youngest son, Aidan in 2003 & then became a stay-at-home mom for 6 years. I slowly went back into teaching by teaching preschool at Lil Einsteins in Gilbert for 5 years. It was there, that I met my wonderful friend, Mrs. Schibi (who teaches 4th grade here at Patterson). She suggested that I come to Patterson for an interview to teach First Grade & here I am...7 years later & love every minute of it.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe each child is unique & special in their own way. In believing that, I also feel as a teacher, I need to always look for a variety of teaching methods so each child's needs can be met. I want all my students to feel successful & celebrate their learning each day. I want to instill a sense of community in our classroom so each child knows they are a part of something very important. I want them to feel comfortable participating in class and I want them to know they can walk into our classroom each day and feel comfortable being themselves. In developing that sense of community I also feel parental involvement is extremely important during the school year, and I look forward to working with all of you to help your child be successful in first grade!

I am going into my seventeeth year of teaching. The first fourteen were spent in Wyoming, and the last two here in Arizona.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. Children are our future, and every one of them has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. Welcome to Mr. Cosper's 3rd grade class. I am excited to get the year started and get these kids to where they need to be by the end of the year. We have a long way to go and I can't wait to see what these kids can do.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Gilbert High School in 2001. I attended Ottawa University and graduated with my degree in Elementary Education in 2005 as well as my masters in Educational Leadership in 2009. This will be my 11th year teaching. I taught for a year in the Florence District teaching kindergarten. I spent eight years in the Queen Creek District where I taught 1st grade for three years, 2nd grade for 4 years, and 4th grade for one year. This is my second year here at Patterson where I teach 3rd grade.

My Educational Philosophy

Education to me is very important for every student no matter who they are or where they come from. It is necessary for students to work their hardest, try their best, and make mistakes so that they can grow and reach their highest potential. School is just one form of education for a child. I believe that extracurricular activities, whether they are physical or mental, play a huge role in the outcome of a child's academics and success.

Welcome!

Welcome to third grade! It is a year full of responsibilities and a lot of fun. I am looking forward to a great and exciting year.

My Education and Professional Background

This is my 25th year teaching, 23 in the Chandler District, and my fourth year at Patterson. I have taught kindergarten, first, second, and 5th grade. This will be my fourth year teaching 3rd grade. I graduated from NAU in 1991 with a degree in elementary education. In 1996 I went back and got my masters in Educational Leadership at NAU, but decided I loved the classroom too much to leave.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.

I am thrilled to introduce myself as Media Specialist at Patterson. As a classroom teacher for 15 years, my passion has always been to create a love for literacy with my students. Now I have the opportunity to inspire all of the students who enter Patterson’s doors! My goal is to create a welcoming environment where everyone belongs. In addition to appreciating literature, students will practice life skills of collaborating, problem solving, and communicating productively with others.

My Education and Professional Background

Bachelor of Science in Education from Grand Canyon University and a Masters in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University Reading Endorsement from Northern Arizona University

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that a successful teacher builds relationships with students. Once that relationship is formed the learning potentional grows! Students buy in to what we are teaching. They desire to please us, and in turn we celebrate their successes and growth. The greatest result of this relationship cycle is that our students develop confidence in themselves. Once a child believes he can accomplish something, he can literally accomplish anything! And it all starts with that relationship.

I've been a professional educator since 2004. Prior to my arrival at Patterson, I was a member of the Conley Elementary Special Education team for four years. Previous to CUSD, I taught at a private school in the valley focusing on behavior interventions. Before I was a Special Education teacher, I taught Secondary Theatre at a high school in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2008, I relocated to Arizona to be closer to my family. I greatly enjoy travel, cooking, craft projects, reading, musical theatre, and acting. I have performed with several community theatre organizations in the Phoenix area. Arts integration is a personal passion of mine. I love animals and visit the closest zoo and aquarium any time I have the chance. My house is also filled with many fuzzy and feathered friends!

My Educational Philosophy

I'm looking forward to a fabulous school year and always enjoy meeting all the new members of the Patterson Pride! My door is always open! Together, we can achieve high behavioral and character expectations, and stellar academic growth!

Welcome!

I'm honored to be your child's teacher this school year. I relocated to Arizona with my family in 2006 from Portland, Oregon. We have two adult sons, both graduates of ASU. I consider all my students, present and past, as extended members of my family and will always do my best to help and support them in their learning. If you ever have any questions or concerns throughout the school year, I hope you will email, call, or write me a note in your child’s daily planner; I will get back to you.

My Education and Professional Background

I am a graduate of the Mary Lou Fulton School of Education at ASU. I've worked for Chandler Unified for the past 11 years. I previously worked in International Banking, but I must say, teaching is my career of choice!

My Educational Philosophy

My goal and responsibity as a teacher is to help all of my students reach their full potential. I believe it's important to always show kindness and respect for each other. I encourage and expect my students to do their personal best and encourage their classmates to do the same. I also believe it takes a village to raise a child well. Working together with parents and families to support our children is vital to their success.

Welcome!

Welcome to CTA 6th grade at Patterson! I am excited for another year with a great group of students. I live in Gilbert with my husband, Travis, and two spoiled dogs, Walter and Ozzy. My stepson, Austin, is currently serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, and my stepdaughter, Kallie, attends Northern Arizona University. Outside of the classroom I love reading, decorating, motorcycle rides, and spending time with family and friends. I am also a volunteer reader for Sun Sounds of Arizona.

My Education and Professional Background

I received my bachelor degree in 1999 from ASU, and upon graduating I went to work for the Maricopa County Juvenile Probation Department, supervising kids in the detention center. Most of the youth I worked with hadn't been to school in years, and many couldn't read. A belief in the power of education, and a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of children led me to this career change. I earned my teacher certification and began teaching in CUSD in 2006, and finished my Master of Education degree at ASU in 2008. I am also a certified Write from the Beginning and Thinking Maps trainer.

My Educational Philosophy

Welcome to 5th grade CTA at Patterson Elementary! My name is Christina Sterling and I feel truly blessed to be a part of the Patterson Pride family. This year is guaranteed to be full of learning, hard work, and fun! My goal is for each and every one of my students to grow academically as well as develop the skills needed to be a successful citizen of our school and community. Let's start this journey together! I'm ready... Are you?

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Arizona State University in 2005 and am a huge Sun Devils fan! I have been teaching 5th grade since 2009 and I have been at Patterson Elementary since 2012. My first five years of teaching were down in Maricopa at Santa Cruz Elementary School. By the end of each school year, my 5th graders are not only my students, but they become my family! I truly love this age and love seeing them blossom and grow throughout the year.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each and every child can be successful, and I know that my role as a teacher plays a big part in this. Every child brings a different set of abilities, life experiences, and dreams to school with them each and every day. What I love to do more than anything is get my students to use these special and unique qualities in the classroom and have them develop a love of learning that they may not have had before. I believe that if children believe that they can, then they will.

Welcome to First Grade! My name is Aimee Franzen and I could not be more delighted to be your child's teacher this year. I am originally from Indiana and moved to Arizona in 2012. My husband and I, and our four boys love to hike, bike and play games. I am also a HUGE Harry Potter fan! I just know that we are going to have a fantastic year getting to know each other and growing together!

My Education and Professional Background

As long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. The teachers and experiences that I had in elementary school paved my way towards education. In 2005, I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education from Indiana University. Then, I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home and raise my four boys. After moving from Indiana to Arizona in 2012, I decided to get back into my profession as a teacher. I started substitute teaching with Chandler Unified School District and maintaining my teaching certification for Arizona. In 2017, I officially became part of the Pride family here at Patterson as part of the amazing first grade team and I could not be happier!

My Educational Philosophy

My goal is to instill a lifelong passion for learning by creating a safe, caring, and challenging environment for your child. I believe that the key to academic and social success starts by building a solid foundation at the primary level. I look forward to helping build that foundation here in the First Grade!

Hello, and welcome to Ms. Kimling's 3rd Grade CTA classroom! I cannot wait to start the year with my new team of learners and start building our brains together! I have a lot of fun and interesting things to teach you this year (3rd grade is my favorite to teach!) and I know you will have a lot to teach me too. I look forward to meeting all of my new students and working through the year with each of you as we learn and grow together!

My Education and Professional Background

Working with kids has been the focus of my adult and even young adult life. I taught martial arts for several years as a teenager, and led summer programs at a local camp for the entirety college career. I always knew I'd spend my life enriching the lives of children. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from the ASU Mary Lou Fulton Teacher's College in May of 2015 I went on to teach 3rd grade in a Title I school in Phoenix. A brief time spent as an au pair in Europe reminded me that teaching is my true passion, and I returned to the states early to come back to teaching. I spent the second half of the 2016-2017 school year working as a para-educator at Patterson and am thrilled to be back to full time teaching as a 3rd grade CTA teacher this year!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that every child has the ability to succeed, and that as an educator it is my job to facilitate that success by helping them to find their way. I strive to provide a safe and enriching environment that allows my students to thrive and encourages them to learn on a daily basis. In my classroom, we focus not only on academic growth, but on emotional and social well-being. A classroom community of respect and love of learning ensures that each child feels comfortable coming to school each day and wants to participate in the activities happening around them. By setting universally high standards while simultaneously respecting the differences in learning styles and needs of the students, I work with my students to create an atmosphere of confidence, growth, and fulfillment.

Welcome!

Welcome to Patterson’s music program! Thank you for visiting my webpage.

My Education and Professional Background

I was so inspired by my own experience with music that I wanted to share it with others. I studied Music Education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. I graduated in1998 with a Bachelor degree in Music Education. I started my teaching career in Indiana for four years and then moved to Arizona. I have taught all ages from K-12 throughout my career, but my heart belongs at the elementary level. I love starting students on their musical journey! We are able to experience music in so many ways! While I've taken many graduate courses to continue my learning, I've found one type of class that really enhances my teaching. The Orff Process, which is a method of teaching music to children, has transformed my classroom. By using the Orff Process, students can immediately take part in music activities by moving creatively, playing instruments, and singing. Every child is able to experience the joy of music right away!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that every child is capable of singing and enjoying music. I believe every child can read, sing, play, move and create music. We start at a simple level by exploring all kinds of musical experiences and build our way to reading, writing and creating music. We can easily add in creative and choreographed movement and instruments. Music is a natural and vital part of our human experience. It feeds the soul and allows us to see and feel more of the beauty in the world. Beyond music's inherent points, it is all around us in our lives. We are surrounded by it in our TV shows, movies, ipods, holidays, classrooms, and more. Studying some of the patterns and building blocks of music allows us to appreciate the music around us in a deeper way. Enjoy the music around you!

Welcome!

Welcome to 1st Grade! I am very excited to be here at Patterson and I look forward to a wonderful year filled with many unique learning experiences. I am an Arizona native and grew up in Glendale. A few years ago I met my amazing husband and moved to Ahwatukee with him. I enjoy spending quality time with my loved ones and friends. I also love traveling, hiking, camping, reading, watching movies, and much more!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Arizona State University with my Bachelor's in Elementary Education along with my endorsement in PreK-12 Structured English Immersion. I started teaching in 2009. I am so happy to be teaching 1st grade again and am grateful to be a part of the Chandler Unified School District! Besides teaching, I have also had over 10 years experience working with children of all ages in gymnastics and dance, and coaching high school cheer. I was a competitive gymnast for many years and understand what it is to be a team player, be motivated, and work hard to achieve goals. These are qualities I plan to instill into all of my 1st grade students!

My Educational Philosophy

My passion has always been working with and making a difference in the lives children, which is why I became a teacher! I believe in creating a positive classroom environment where all of my students enjoy coming to everyday and one where they feel valued, understood, and cared for. I believe that we are all lifelong learners and my goal is to instill a love of learning into each and every one of my students. I look forward to celebrating the growth and successes of all of my students throughout the school year!

Welcome!

Welcome to CTA 6th grade!I am super excited to be a member of the PRIDE here at Patterson as we embark upon this milestone year. Many great adventures await! I am originally from sunny Southern California. My family and I relocated to Colorful Colorado in 2006. We left the majestic Rocky Mountains in December to embark upon a new journey here in the Valley of the Sun. I have been married to my husband, Dave, for 24 years. We have two amazing sons, Chandler and Tyler.

My Education and Professional Background

I obtained my Bachelor's degree from California State University, Fullerton and my teaching credentials from UCLA. I am currently working on a Master's in Education degree at Grand Canyon University. I have taught multiple grade levels since 2005. 6th grade will surely be the best!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe all students have the capacity to learn. It is my job as an educator to cultivate a safe and inviting environment for learning to take place. Our classroom is a community of learners where mutual respect and support leads to great accomplishments.
