Welcome!

Hello! I am starting my 15th year at Bogle Junior High, although this is my 18th year teaching in the state. I am an Arizona native and grew up in the East Valley. . In my spare time I enjoy: The Phoenix Suns, going to movies, listening to music, going to concerts and plays, playing percussion, dancing, bowling, racquetball, board games, traveling, and anything else fun. I am in a local indie rock band, called Futurekind.

My Education and Professional Background

I got my teaching degree from NAU in Elementary Education with a dual emphasis in mathematics and music. I have since obtained my Masters in Educational Counseling. I am also the 7th grade boys’ basketball coach.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that math is a subject that should be enjoyed through participating in math experiences where meaningful learning takes place. Although some parts of math have to be memorized, most of our math learning comes from exploring math concepts so that we gain a deeper conceptual understanding of what we are doing and of why the traditional algorithms work. Math is not just a subject, but a way of thinking. It's important to help students connect what we learn in math to the useful real-life applications of the concepts.

My job is to provide a rich environment filled with activities that teach valuable skills and provide opportunities for students to explore and build their understanding of math concepts. I believe every individual is capable of attaining math knowledge. The learning process may be different for individuals, but with an open mind and a willingness to succeed all students can learn.

Welcome to 7th grade. You will become part of Bogle Bulldog family. I am originally from Belgrade, Serbia and before venturing into education I’ve spent several years working in the medical field. I have three boys and a baby girl. I love traveling, hiking and being outdoors. I look forward to working with you to make this an exciting and positive year. Please know that we are all a part of our classroom community and you will have many opportunities to contribute to our learning community.

My Education and Professional Background

In 2002, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Grand Canyon University. In 2006, I went back to school and attended ASU Polytechnic for my teaching certificate. I also have my middle school endorsement in math and science. Over the years I have been a part of many science and math grants like Engineering is Elementary, Chandler Intel Math Academy and Arizona Math Partnership. Before coming to Bogle, I was at Knox Elementary teaching 6th grade math and science. Recently I have obtained a Masters in Administration and Leadership from Grand Canyon University. I guess you could call me a lifelong learner dedicated to education!

My Educational Philosophy

My philosophy is that mathematics should be taught for understanding. Learning is a social process and this means that in my classroom students will be encouraged and expected to discuss math and explain their thinking. Research shows that students need to be able to talk about what they are learning to better process knowledge and keep it in their long term memory. We will establish a classroom climate that promotes student sharing of ideas with understanding that making mistakes is not failure, but a natural part of the learning process. It is important to help students connect what we learn in math to the useful real-life applications of the concepts.

Welcome!

Welcome back to school! As an incoming 7th grader, Jr. High may seem a bit overwhelming at first but once the first few weeks have settle, I am certain you will enjoy being at Bogle. This is a new school year so it is a chance to start over no matter how last year went. Together we will explore the world of science by questioning, experimenting, evaluating and make new discoveries.

My Education and Professional Background

I have been working in the Chandler Unified District since 1999, and I've worked at Bogle Jr. High School since 2010. I have taught Math 7/8, Honors Math 7/8 and Science 7. I received a BS in Biology from ASU, Elementary Teacher certification from University of Phoenix and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from NAU. I am highly qualified having obtained endorsements in Middle School Math, SEI, General Science and participated in AMP (Arizona Mathematics Program) for 2 years. Prior to teaching, I was a Microbiologist for the State of Arizona for eight years and became the Supervisor of the Serology Department. My department was responsible for testing state and county hospitals for HIV, Hepatitis, Valley Fever, Immunological Screens and other serological tests. In 1993/1994, I was chosen to travel to the CDC in Ft. Collins, Colorado, to work with other microbiologists from the Four Corners states when Hantavirus became evident.

My Educational Philosophy

As a teacher, I want to promote life-long skills for the students and encourage them to construct knowledge by questioning, discovering and practicing these skills in the classroom. Providing students access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson being studied creates an opportunity for individual discovery and building knowledge to occur. My prior work experience and years of teaching have allowed me to teach my students what they would need to know and bring the real-world situations into the classroom for them to achieve the success they need for their future. I enjoy teaching at the middle school level because this is where students are at the crossroads in their life when they need to think about their own future.

Welcome!

Welcome to 8th grade math! I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you this year and helping you develop a lasting love of math!

My Education and Professional Background

BA Education from Arizona State University, Rodel Aspiring Student Teacher, Arizona Mathematics Partnership 2014-2016, Teacher Leader Arizona Mathematics Partnership 2016-2017

My Educational Philosophy

I believe all students are capable of learning. They all do not learn at the same rate, but with different methods and strategies it is possible. Students should not be thought of as mindless individuals just waiting to be filled with knowledge by their teachers. Quite the opposite; students should be viewed as individuals who can contribute to the classroom, sharing and gaining knowledge from each other.

Welcome!

Hello! I am so excited to teach 7th and 8th grade language arts and strategies Bogle Junior High School. I absolutely love teaching junior high. I can't wait to get to know my new students throughout this school year. I grew up in Nebraska but have lived in the Phoenix area since 1993. My husband and I have two sons, and we are all quite active. I am also a triathlete who actively competes in all of the triathlon distances, and I just love to swim, bike, and run.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a Reading endorsement. I taught reading and English for four years in the Mesa Unified School District and then began teaching language arts at Bogle in 2001. In 2008, I earned my Special Education degree for K-12 and feel so blessed to be a part of the Bogle team!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe each child is different, and every child is made up of qualities unique to himself or herself. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and I am passionate about tapping into and focusing on individual strengths! I believe that it is my job to provide a safe learning environment where children are free to take risks, and it is okay to make mistakes. Making mistakes is how people learn. I try to teach perseverance and grit throughout the challenges of learning, and I encourage my students through positive discipline and engaging lessons. I require all of my students to try, and I expect them to try their best.

Welcome!

Welcome! I am one of the 7th grade Language Arts teachers at BJHS. I've been here since 2005. I have also taught middle school students in central Phoenix, Mesa and Tucson. I serve on Bogle's Data Team, which focuses on educating staff and students on deliberate practice instruction. In my free time, I'm at the gym, hiking, mountain biking, reading mystery books, working on dollhouse miniatures or even going to rock concerts.(been to over 100!)My husband and I have four grown children.

My Education and Professional Background

BA Lakeland College-Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Magna Cum Laude Graduate. M Ed Arizona State University-Tempe, Arizona.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each of my students has the opportunity to receive a superior education. I want every student to feel as though this an exciting, stimulating, and safe place to learn. It is important they feel valued in this learning community. Their participation in the education process is critical, and they matter! I cannot be the only advocate for the students, rather parents play the most critical role through their support of their students to find success. The family's role ranges from deliberately providing the opportunity for their child to study, encouraging them to be involved positively in school, as well as being a visible support of the teachers' efforts to guide their child to successful. Learning should be that of discovery for the learner! My classroom is their classroom, their setting to practice, evaluate, and revise the knowledge they acquire. My ultimate goal for your student is for them to always be learners!

I earned a BSE in English and French from the University of Central Missouri in 1976. In 1983 I completed an MA in English Education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Prior to coming to Chandler, I I taught high school English, directed the writing program, developed a dual enrollment course, An original Bogle staff member since 1991, I have taught language arts, French, reading, journalism, and enrichment skills.

My Educational Philosophy

Each learner brings unique gifts to the classroom. It is the job of the classroom teacher to provide multiple opportunities for students to discover their gifts and use them both now and in the future. Learning specific facts is less important than learning how to access information and use it to meet needs and solve problems. The best learning comes from experience. I cannot make anyone learn, but I can create an environment where learners can become inquisitive, self-directed, thoughtful, and educated people.
