About
Salem...
Huān yíng! I have been teaching Mandarin Chinese and culture since 2012. I love to travel and learn different cultures: I’ve traveled to most of the major cities in mainland China and the U.S., and I’ve been to Canada, Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia with my husband. My travels have strengthened my belief in the power of language and the importance of cultural awareness and competence. I am also an animal lover- I have two dogs: Farley, a cute Shiba Inu, and Bodhi, a 140-pound Great Pyrenees.
My Education and Professional Background
I have a B.A. degree in British and American Literature. I received my M.A. from the University of Arizona. Before I joined Bogle in 2019, I taught Chinese 101 and 102 at the University of Arizona, Mandarin language and culture at a charter school, and middle school level Chinese at Tucson Chinese School.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that my class should be a friendly and fun melting pot where the east meets the west, and where my students gain a deeper understanding of this culturally diverse world and achieve better cultural competence.
