About
Salem...
Huān yíng! Welcome! This is my seventh year of teaching Mandarin Chinese and culture. I’ve traveled to most of the major cities in mainland China and the U.S., and I’ve been to Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia with my husband. My traveling experiences havestrengthened my firm belief in the power of language and the importance of cultural awareness and competence. I am also an animal lover- I have two dogs: Farley, a cute Shiba Inu, and Bodhi, an elegant 140-pound Great Pyrenees.
My Education and Professional Background
I have a B.A. degree in British and American Literature. I received my M.A. from the University of Arizona. I have taught Chinese 101 and 102 at the University of Arizona, Mandarin language and culture at a charter school, and middle school level Chinese atTucson Chinese School. This is my seventh year of teaching.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that my class should be a friendly and fun melting pot where the east meets the west, and where my students gain a deeper understanding of this culturally diverse world and achieve better cultural competence.
