Welcome to Strategies ClassWelcome to Strategies Class. This is an elective for students with special needs and IEPs only. Many students with IEPs receive accommodations and other assistance in their general education classes but may also require additional assistance. The small group setting allows teachers to provide re-teaching for misunderstood concepts, as well as to develop and reinforce study skills.Purpose
The Strategies class is designed to allow IEP teachers to work in small groups or one-on-one with students to work on their individual goals and needs. The teachers may work with students in rotating small groups on reading fluency and comprehension skills, writing skills, and current math concept review and reteaching. This is NOT a "study hall" to complete daily homework; homework is to be completed at home or at homework hub.
In Strategies, students will also learn: self-advocating strategies, time management skills, prioritizing, test taking strategies, and will be monitoring their own grade progress on a weekly basis. Students will be taught skills to seek assistance from any of their teachers about class work, organization, or tests by learning to call and email their teachers, practice a script to follow, and engage in and accept constructive feedback about classroom performanceTopics and Strategies to be TaughtUsing your agendaOrganizing and setting up notebooks/bindersTime management/prioritizing assignments.Checking gradesResponsibility for LearningSelf-advocacy and Asking for helpBasic Reading SkillsReading FluencyWriting SkillsCurrent Math Concept review and re-teachingQuarterly reflections of performanceGoal SettingStudy SkillsTest-Taking StrategiesGrades
