Welcome!
Hello! My name is Mr. Estrella, but often, students refer to me as Mr. Star. I am the new general music teacher at Riggs Elementary School. I am so very excited to get started working with the wonderful students at Riggs! On this site you will find important information about school concerts and events, practice recordings for students to use at home, and useful music links for students to utilize outside of the classroom. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns!
My Education and Professional Background
Mr. Estrella has a bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State University (Bridgewater, MA) in music education, with a focus on vocal music education, and a master’s degree from Grand Canyon University in Educational Administration. This will be Mr. Estrella’s 10th year in education, and 8th in the music classroom. Mr. Estrella has taken choirs of many sizes (20 to over 150 K-8 students) to many exciting venues throughout his career, including Chase Field and Fenway Park to perform the National Anthem before professional baseball games, and Gila River Arena to perform holiday music during Arizona Coyotes games. Mr. Estrella has been a choir performer as well, performing in various venues in Greece, Spain, and Puerto Rico.
My Educational Philosophy
My educational philosophy is quite simple and comes from a book I read in college: Everyone has a place in the choir. We all come from different backgrounds, different places of origin, different beliefs, and different goals and expectations for our lives. The great thing about music is that it is universal, and no matter where you come from or what you believe, music is something we can all be involved in and enjoy. Not everyone that comes to the music classroom is trying to be a professional musician, but everyone in the classroom can make music. My goal in the music classroom is to ensure that students are enjoying what they are learning, so that when they leave school that day, they have something fun and exciting to share when a parent asks, “What did you learn at school today?” Therefore, no matter your musical talent or your aspirations as a musician, know that you will always have a place in my choir or music classroom.
