My Education and Professional Background
I graduated Northern Arizona University with a dual degree in special and elementary education. My first two years of teaching I was a resource teacher here at Riggs for 4th-6th grades. I have been teaching fifth grade ever since and am coming up on my 9th year of teaching.
My Educational Philosophy
A teacher's role is to guide, allowing access to information instead of acting as the primary source of information. The students' learning process is created as they learn to find answers to their questions. In order to build knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in authentic ways. Providing students access to activities and allowing appropriate time and space to use materials that reinforce the topic of learning, creates a positive learning environment.
