I would like to welcome you to 3rd Grade at Riggs Elementary! I am very excited to begin our learning adventure together.
My Education and Professional Background
I began working at Riggs in August of 2009. I initially started out as a Speech Therapy and Special Education Aide. I then moved into a one-on-one aide position working with a student from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. My work at Riggs inspired me to return to school to obtain my teaching degree. I currently hold a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services from the University of Phoenix, and a Master's in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University
My Educational Philosophy
I like to provide a student centered and collaborative learning environment that encourages students to use their experiences and perspectives to make sense of what they are learning, apply it to their world beyond the classroom setting, and to help students share their ideas and learn to communicate effectively and respectfully with their peers. I provide opportunities for students to develop their problem solving skills through a balanced approach of teacher support and productive struggle strategies to help them learn to become a more independent student. Our classroom community promotes acceptance, recognizes diversity, and acknowledges value in all members of the classroom and within the school.
