I grew up on a farm in Iowa where we had pigs, horses, goats, chickens, cows, cats, dogs, and turkeys at one time or another. I learned to drive on a tractor and was a pro at pulling the manure spreader. Sometimes I miss the smell of hay, but I sure don't miss the smell of the hog house! My husband, Mike, works for a finance company as well as the NFL. Tyler graduated from ASU and is now teaching Algebra & Geometry at Casteel High School. Ethan is attending ASU where he is studying communications.
My Education and Professional Background
I earned my BA from the University of Northern Iowa in 1990 and moved to Arizona in July of that same year. I began my teaching career at Toltec Elementary (near Casa Grande) where I taught 3rd grade until 1998. I moved to Chandler and taught 1st grade for a year at Shumway, then moved to 5th grade in 1999. I earned my MA from Northern Arizona University in 2001. I joined the Patterson Pride in the fall of 2013.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that every child is able to grow and experience success, whether it be intellectually, socially, and/or emotionally. In order for growth and success to happen, the environment surrounding that student must feel safe and support risk-taking along with sharing of ideas. That means my role is to be a guide, allow curiosity to direct learning, and promote respect for others.
