    Welcome!

Hello and Welcome to 6th Grade! I'm so excited to be sharing my passion of writing with students at Riggs Elementary as the writing/language-arts teacher! I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, go-cubs-go, but am proud to call the Seville Community my home now, along with my husband and three children.

    My Education and Professional Background

I come from a family of lifelong learners and educators, so my enjoyment of teaching started young. I graduated from Drake University in Iowa, where I earned my degree in both Secondary Education and English.  My teaching career began right out of college back in the community where I grew up. I taught high school English for 9 years, and later earned my Masters of Arts in Reading Instruction, where I became a Middle School Reading Specialist for 3 years. When I'm not being a teacher by day and Mom by night, I enjoy traveling, being outdoors in our beautiful state, or simply hanging by the pool listening to my favorite nonfiction read on Audible.

    My Educational Philosophy

My role and mission as an educator is to support all students to be inspired, educated, and challenged to reach their highest level of learning and personal development. I am committed to giving students the tools they need to see their own value, analyze information and situations, and effectively solve problems. I believe students learn best in a welcoming space with engaging learning experiences, developing lifelong learners towards their future career path.

In my personal experiences, students are most successful when the schools and families work together. I welcome your involvement and look forward to developing a partnership that will enable each child to have a successful and meaningful 6th grade experience.
