• WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

    Staffing in the Classroom:

Our classroom is staffed with 2 full-time paraprofessionals (Ms. G and Ms. Kim).  They are amazing and experienced support staff.  Our lower student to teacher ratio allows us to support our students and their individual needs.

    Drop Off / Pick Up:

We intend to minimize the pick up and drop off time and get your child into the classroom as quickly as possible while also teaching them to separate from you and join peers as part of a structured routine. Please follow our current pick up and drop off procedures.

    Absences/ Illnesses

Absences must be reported to the attendance clerk at (480) 224-3400 and please email me as well so that I know whether or not to expect your child.  If your child is sick, please keep him/her home!  Children at this age are unable to tend to their own illnesses and can spread germs to items and others very quickly.  We also do have children in the classroom with compromised immune systems that cannot be exposed to unnecessary illnesses.  Please see the CUSD Health Protocol sheet and it is available online if you have any questions (attached and online).

If your child rides the bus, YOU MUST let them know.  I DO NOT communicate absences with them.

    TRANSPORTATION:  480-424-8600    EMAIL:  dispatch@cusd80.com                       (know your child's route #)

Food Allergies / Special Dietary Needs & Snack Information:

Please let me know if your child has any food allergies or is on a special diet.  A variety of snacks are provided daily through the school cafeteria, so if your child cannot eat what is provided, please send in a snack each day from home.  The snack schedule will be posted online for your convenience.

    Communication:

    • A classroom newsletter will be shared with you bi-weekly throughout the school year to keep you informed about our curriculum themes, classroom activities, upcoming events and activities that can be done with your child at home to help reinforce what is being taught at school.

    • You will also receive school emails and newsletters from Riggs Elementary about happenings and events on campus and through our PTO.

    • As always, please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns or general comments that you need to address.  Please allow 24 hours, but I try to respond before then.

    Clothing:

Please keep in mind that during the 2 ½ hours that they are here at school, we do many activities that may cause your child to get his/her clothing dirty.  Please keep this in mind when dressing your child for school.

Tennis shoes or closed-toed shoes are the best as our playground is made mostly of wood chips.

    Things to Bring to School:

Backpack (with name on the outside and large enough to hold a standard folder and change of clothes)

~  Complete change of clothes (kept in backpack at all times)

~  Pull-Ups, Diapers & Wipes (if applicable) PULL UPS with velcro on both sides only!

Water Bottle with water daily labeled with their name.

    What NOT TO BRING:

No jewelry, stickers, candy or toys!  Although they may need some security items, they will be placed inside backpacks upon entering or will be taken away.

    Classroom Donations:

Donations will be posted on my webpage and updated on newsletters.
