Performing and Fine Arts
The Chandler Unified School District is a premier district of choice, offering some of the top fine and performing arts programs in the state of Arizona. All students have the opportunity to participate in Band and Orchestra upon entering 5th grade. Students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade receive General Music instruction, and in grades 5th and 6th students can choose between General Music, Band or Orchestra.
Each of Chandler's six high schools provide award-winning instrumental and vocal music programs as well as a wide range of visual arts opportunities. Chandler junior high schools provide elective opportunities with highly qualified instruction in instrumental and vocal music through band, orchestra, jazz band, chorus, visual arts, and many more. In addition, many before and after school clubs at all levels offer a variety of fine and performing arts opportunities..

Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Chandler High Dance Club performed at the City of Chandler's Woofstock Festival. The students did a great job, and many family members came with their furry friends to support our students.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High School's "Step Up" choir concert, under the direction of Lori Lyford, with neighboring junior high and elementary schools (Andersen Junior High, Willis Junior High, Andersen Elementary, Conley Elementary, CTA Goodman, CTA Liberty, Hartford, Knox Gifted Academy, Sanborn Elementary, and San Marcos Elementary) was a wonderful experience for all the students.
Willis Junior High - (2019-2020) Willis Jazz Band was selected to perform at this year's Arizona Music Educators Conference in Mesa, Arizona during the weekend of January 31, 2020. In addition to performing, the Willis Band has been selected to present a clinic to state educators on: "What it Takes to Build a Successful Jazz Program." They will then perform for the music educators as an Honorary Ensemble representing the best of the state.
Basha High - (2019-2020) Basha High hosted the third annual Show Choir Live festival. They had more than 150 students participate from Santan Junior High, Payne Junior High and Basha Accelerated Middle School.
Chandler Traditional Academy - Freedom Campus - (2019-2020) CTA Freedom students participated in a "Say No to Drugs" poster contest. (Pictured are the sixth grade winners.)
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Jacobson Elementary had a record number of students apply for the peace poster contest sponsored by the Sun Lakes Lions Club and Intel. Five students turned in posters depicting their concept of what peace looks like in the world today. One was selected and turned in for the district competition: Esther Kim's depiction of Mother Earth embracing us all. Dr. Adama Sallu helped the school choose from the magnificent entries! All entries will be showcased at the fourth annual English language learners diversity picnic.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Please congratulate Adelina Cetaj who won a "Top 3 in the State" slot for the State Playworks Competition for the second year in a row! She will have her play directed by a professional director and presented at our State Festival.
Hancock Elementary - (2019-2020) Hancock 3rd graders learn about how to create their own Picasso in Art Masterpiece.
Weinberg Elementary - (2019-2020) Weinberg music teacher Matt Pitts was selected to present at the 2020 Arizona Music Educators Association Annual In-Service Conference to be held in January 2020. He will present on "Popular Media With Orff Schulwerk." Orff Schulwerk music and movement pedagogy contributes to development of the individual far beyond specific skills and understandings in the arts. These skills and procedures have a wider application and value in several areas: Intellectual, Social, Emotional, and Aesthetic. Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Chandler High Wolfpack Marching Band is part of the Elite Eight and have qualified for Superstate.
Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary - (2019-2020) Our students in Art Club learned about oil pastels and created their own masterpieces.
Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary - (2019-2020) The kindergarten classes are learning about music and movement from our Artist in Residence, Mr. Jeffrey.
Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary - (2019-2020) Congratulations to sixth grader Hasan Cecunjanin who won our school's Peace Poster contest.
Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary - (2019-2020) The Bookends group from Chandler High came and performed for our students.
Frye Elementary - (2019-2020) Emilirose Robinson's second graders learn a poem every week and present it to the other students!
Chandler Traditional Academy - Independence Campus - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Chiara Banda who won the 6th grade Peace Poster Contest for CTA Independence.
Ryan Elementary - (2019-2020) Ryan Elementary paint night for girls and their favorite female adult had over 180 attendees!
Weinberg Elementary - (2019-2020) Weinberg music teacher Matt Pitts (aka "MJ Pitty") teaches the Doubles Rap to kindergartners. Matt regularly partners with classroom teachers to reinforce academic skills with music. We are thrilled he is part of our Weinberg family!
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Modazz won first place in a Choreography Competition! Scottsdale Community College (SCC) has selected a piece that Angelina Flores choreographed, and Modazz will be performing this dance in the SCC dance performance in December. The dancers will take class, set light cues, participate in a photo shoot, perform in two performances, and be part of a question and answer session with the audience at the conclusion of each performance.
Bologna Elementary - (2019-2020) Noelia Silva's second grade class celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring influential Hispanic Americans. Students learned about Jose Feliciano and his contribution to the music world. They were excited to connect one of their beloved songs, "Feliz Navidad," to this artist and added a "few" musical instruments for a sing-a-long. Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Photo Album
Chandler Traditional Academy - Liberty Campus - (2019-2020) CTA Liberty celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with help from our music teacher, Mrs. Dalene Husky.
Knox Gifted Academy - (2019-2020) Inspired by the book Walker in Time by Helen Hughes Vick, KGA fourth graders crafted beautiful pieces for the cardboard challenge that are now on display at the Eddie Basha Collection through the end of October. The Eddie Basha Collection website

Perry High - (2019-2020) Sixteen Perry company and advanced dancers were chosen to perform at the University of Arizona's Arizona Jazz Dance Showcase Invitational Concert.
Basha High - (2019-2020) Basha High symphonic orchestra, under the direction of Jonathan Gott, won "Superior with Distinction" at the ABODA (Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association) Fall Festival at Corona del Sol High School prior to fall break.
Frye Elementary - (2019-2020) Frye Music teacher Diana Clark took a group of 4th graders to the Diamondbacks game to sing the National Anthem.
Frye Elementary - (2019-2020) Chandler High students in the Theater Bookends show came to Frye Elementary and put on an amazing performance for the kindergarten through 3rd grades. Student actors acted out scenes from several popular children's books.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Carlos Aguero, has been invited to perform at the ASU School of Music's Band and Orchestra Invitational in the spring. The band received the selective invitation by earning a Superior rating at the 2019 ABODA (Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association) State Concert Festival.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) CHS Theatre's production of The Great Gatsby was superb! The play, directed by Ms. Stephanie Likes and Ms. Katie Kolacki, featured Elijah Newton, Charlize Cornejo, Ryan Cogley, Drew Sedgley, Liz Del Vecchio, Izzy Stephens, Zac Denny, Luke Waxman and an awesome ensemble cast. Without the outstanding stage management and other crews, this production would not have been possible. Congratulations on a great show!
Knox Gifted Academy - (2019-2020) Knox fourth graders did an amazing job with their musical, "ARF!" -- the first musical of the year for our campus.
Chandler Early College - (2019-2020) Lavender Hubbard excels at balancing school, a social life -- and improvisation! The Chandler Early College senior has been performing improv since middle school and is poised to make to the big time. Between taking classes at ImprovMANIA, dabbling in art, and excelling in her academic endeavors, Lavender also serves as a leader and mentor to her fellow students at CEC.
Perry High - (2019-2020) Drawing and Painting 3 students Autumn Carrol and all students in Drawing 3 ( third semester of art class ) painted a mixed media project done in Mrs. DeCristofaro's class.
Casteel High - (2019-2020) Casteel Colts students are multi-talented! Football center LeCharles Bentley Jr. also plays the violin in the orchestra program. Recently he and other orchestra students performed for the front office.
Arizona College Prep - Oakland Campus - (2019-2020) Congratulations to ACP Oakland 7th grader Megan Williams who was awarded 6th place in the country at the summer 2019 American Harp Society's National competition.
Bogle Junior High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Bogle choir students Baylie Soto, Nora Chase, Alina Nguyen and Aubree Buri who participated in the first ever Harmony Fusion Barbershop Festival at the Chandler Center for the Arts in August.
Bologna Elementary - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Bologna music teacher Deb Kimberly who was nominated and awarded in the Teacher Appreciation Program by the "Husband and Wife Law Team!"
Chandler Early College - (2019-2020) From his first days as a CEC student, senior Cristian Valdez has continuously added to the spirit and vibe of Chandler Early College with his hand-drawn artwork. Valdez had the honor of drawing the cover photo of last year's yearbook, and has signed on to be a regular contributor to the artwork and design of the 2019-2020 yearbook.
Casteel High - (2019-2020) The Casteel Choir and our ASL (American Sign Language) Club sang and signed the national anthem at the Arizona Diamondbacks game on August 20 and did an outstanding job.
San Marcos Elementary - (2019-2020) Mrs. Dziczek's 5th and 6th grade band students are using math manipulatives to reinforce rhythms while creating their own songs.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Karina Yang, Third Place and $3,500 Scholarship winner in the 2019 Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest (sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary 720 of Phoenix, Arizona) for her oil painting titled "What They Have Left Behind." Chandler High - (2019-2020) Casey Likes, Chandler High/Chandler Online Academy Senior, will be starring in a new musical based on the 2000 movie Almost Famous that is slated for Broadway in 2020. He is currently in rehearsals in New York for a run at the Old Globe in San Diego in October before they move to Broadway!
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Daniel Pacheco and Aleksandra Rosten received Exceptional Achievement Awards for their artwork at the Mesa Community College Spectrum Student Art Exhibition. Additionally, fifteen other students had work on display, and Lila Patel, part of Chandler High's AP Photo program, had her Hawaii image broadcast on all of Mesa Community College's web and print advertising.

Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High School Theatre has been nationally recognized by the National Youth Awards for the 2018-2019 productions of Alice and Les Miserables.Awards:

Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Hamilton Theatre won several state awards after their performance on May 24 at ASU Gammage. Our musical was in the top ten for the state for Best Musical, we won for Best Costumes, and Sophia Donnell won Best Lead Female. Sophia will go on to represent Arizona in New York City for the national competition, The Jimmy Awards. She won an all-expense paid trip for a training camp at NYU and then will perform in the same theatre as Lion King.

Chandler High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Chandler High junior Casey Likes who won Best Vocalist and Best Male Lead for his role in Les Miserables. The last award makes Casey eligible for the National Jimmy Awards, so ASU Gammage is flying him to New York City June 16-25 where he will be representing Arizona and CHS at the national awards competition! Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Viola? Trumpet? Bass? Sax? Fourth grade students learned about band, orchestra and general music options to help them make a music choice for 5th grade. Thanks to Ms. Oh and Mr. Virgo and our student volunteers who gave these students an introduction into their musical options. Jacobson is proud to offer strong music programs for our students.
