• Performing and Fine Arts Performing and Fine Arts


    The Chandler Unified School District is a premier district of choice, offering some of the top fine and performing arts programs in the state of Arizona. All students have the opportunity to participate in Band and Orchestra upon entering 5th grade. Students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade receive General Music instruction, and in grades 5th and 6th students can choose between General Music, Band or Orchestra.

    Each of Chandler's six high schools provide award-winning instrumental and vocal music programs as well as a wide range of visual arts opportunities. Chandler junior high schools provide elective opportunities with highly qualified instruction in instrumental and vocal music through band, orchestra, jazz band, chorus, visual arts, and many more. In addition, many before and after school clubs at all levels offer a variety of fine and performing arts opportunities..

    The Modazz Spring Concert highlighted the talents of Chandler High's student choreographers and dancers. Improv, Advanced, and Modazz performed 15 terrific numbers to a variety of songs from Panic! At the Disco, Ariana Grande, Billie Eillish, and more. The dancers are directed by Mrs. Tiffany White.

    The Little Mermaid
    What a show! Congratulations to the cast, crew, and directors of Chandler High's musical The Little Mermaid. The show, based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and Disney film, starred Reagan Plank, Bennett Smith, Charlize Cornejo, Andrew Matcuk, Joshua Ransford, Claire Willes, Katie Stone, and other talented ensemble performers.     Chandler High senior Iris Diaz has been awarded the 2021 Zelma Basha Scholarship, a scholarship awarded to an art student. Iris (pictured in yellow) is an AP 2-D tester. As part of the scholarship application, Iris had to submit a portfolio, including photography from the past couple of years.

    Choir Exchange
    Chandler High hosted two other choirs during a High School Choir Exchange on March 11th. In preparation for their virtual festival at NAU 4th quarter, Chandler, Casteel, and Perry choir directors wanted to give students an "NAU" type experience amidst the pandemic regulations and at the same time start a new tradition and unify as a district. The Choir Exchange was the first time most students were able to sing in front of others for more than a year, and it was special.

    Two of our HHS Orchestra students, Boyoung Cynthia Min and Brian Yong, are winners in the American Proté gé International Piano and Strings Competition 2021, which is open to students and adults of all nationalities and countries. In the Intermediate Division, age 15-18, Boyoung won second place for her performance on the Walton Viola Concerto, and Brian took third place for his performance of the Barber Violin Concerto. Both winners have been invited to perform in a recital at Carnegie Hall in 2022!

She has maintained over a 4.0 GPA for all four years of high school, receiving an award for her GPA and art at the annual awards night. During her senior year, she continued to take AP courses and dual enrollment while working outside of school.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Ashleigh Griffin, a member of the Arizona College Prep - Erie Class of 2020, has thrived at ACP where she was challenged both academically and personally. We are so proud of her dedication and achievements. Ashleigh has maintained a 4.5 GPA and received AP Scholar with Distinction honors. She has been a member of several clubs at ACP including National Honor Society, UNICEF, and Red Cross. In addition to academics, Ashleigh has pursued her passion for dance during the past 12 years, training at several elite ballet schools and competing both regionally and nationally with her dance team. At ACP, she was a member of the ACP Spiritline team where she served as JV and varsity captain of both the cheer and pom teams. She also competed both regionally and nationally with the cheer and pom teams. Ashleigh would like to pursue a career in medicine and hopes to become a cardio-thoracic surgeon.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Macey Clausen is a dedicated performer in both choir and theatre. She is a member of the Concert Choir as well as the Jazz Choir. She is the only student to ever make the All-State Concert Choir, All-State Jazz Choir, and the All-State Show choir in the same year! She is a gifted musician and excels in piano and voice. She currently has a private music studio of 11 students! Macey has played numerous roles on stage, from the quirky but lovable Miss Hannigan in Annie to the fun-loving teen Kim MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie. Currently, she serves as Drama Club vice president and Jazz Choir vice president. She is also a member of National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, and has a 4.5 GPA.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Kendall Zylstra is both the president of ITS (International Thespian Society) and co-captain of SIC (Sudden Impact Comedy Improv) this year. She worked hard to improve the level of knowledge other students had in each club. She was integral in creating additional opportunities for the ITS students to not only improve and interact with each other on campus, but also in connecting with other ITS troupes in the valley in an effort to support theatre in all high schools.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Morgan Cywinski is a gifted leader who always gives her best in everything that she does. She was flute section leader in Basha Band and president of Band Council. Morgan also took multiple AP classes and was a member of National Honor Society. Her senior project was an open mic night to raise money for the fight against Alzheimer's.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  While taking art classes at Basha High, Olivia Morey has grown into a self-assured artist with a vision. Olivia has a unique artistic voice, and her artwork offers something important for viewers. As an AP Studio Art student, Olivia is organized, thoughtful, and willing to take on new challenges. Her hobbies include drawing, writing, exercise, and reading. Olivia will attend the University of Arizona School of Fine Arts, majoring in illustration and design.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Tess Ward is a second year AP Studio Art student, an incredibly skilled artist who is constantly pushing towards new levels of mastery. She has won awards for painting and drawing at the regional and state levels. Tess always brings a part of who they are into their work and doesn't shy away from their individuality. As a student, Tess is wonderful to have and always contributes in a positive way. She was a member of National Honor Society and French Honor Society. Her hobbies include music and drawing portraits, and she is an animal lover. Tess graduated magna cum laude and will be attending Arizona State University for art and design and is enrolled in Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University.     Hiep Dang
    SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Hiep Dang is a very committed student. He is extremely active in school, including (but not limited to) Noteworthy Choir, High Impact (performer and choreographer), AMS Choir (Choreographer) ACE Club, Dance, and KJC (Kismet Jazz Company) where he helped choreograph Show Choir and dance! Hiep also was a member of Asian Cultural Ethics Club and choreographed all of their dances. He is very deserving of this spotlight as he gives his all to Basha High School! In the future, Hiep plans on working as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines, while continuing to pursue choreography professionally. Basha High Seniors Highlights
