The parent/legal guardian and child must be an Arizona Resident (physically live in Arizona) to apply for Open Enrollment.

1. When a Chandler Unified student that is NOT on an Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption and is wishing to attend a DIFFERENT school within the Chandler Unified School District boundaries.
2. When a student lives in another Arizona school district boundary other than Chandler Unified School Disrtrict and wishes to attend a school in the Chandler Unified School District boundary.
3. When a student is attending a Chandler Unified school and they move out of the boundaries of the current school during the school year and they want to continue at the same school.
4. When a student is applying for a Dual Language Immersion, Early Entrance into Kindergarten, Elite Performance Academy or Gifted Services.

Priority Group 1: Resident transfer students who currently attend the school and their siblings

Example #1: John lives in the Conley Elementary attendance boundary and his son attended Andersen Elementary last school year and his son will return to Andersen Elementary next school year.

Example #2: Grant lives in the Santan Elementary attendance boundary and his daughter attended Basha Elementary last school year and she will be returning. Grant will submit an Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption application requesting his kindergarten son to attend Basha Elementary.

Priority Group 2: Children of employees and previously accepted and enrolled non-resident students

Example #1: Simon works at Perry High and he will submit two Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption application requesting his children to attend CTA Freedom.

Example #2: Randy lives in the Gilbert Elementary School District boundaries and his children attended Santan Elementary last school year. They are returning to Santan for the current school year.

Priority Group 3: Resident transfer students

Example: Karen lives in the Tarwater Elementary attendance boundary and she will request Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption for her son to attend Hancock Elementary.

Priority Group 4: Previously accepted and enrolled non-resident students' siblings

Example: Tim lives in the Tempe Elementary School boundaries and his 1st grade daughter attends Andersen Elementary (Priority Group 2). He will request Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption for his kindergarten son to attend Andersen Elementary.

Priority Group 5: Non-resident students

Example: Gary lives in Maricopa and will request Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption for his daughter to attend Jacobson Elementary.

The following information is for incoming Kindergarten - 6th grade (7th-8th for Elite Performance Academy).

If your child is NOT attending a CUSD school the following documents are required for the school to review your Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption request: (PDF preferred) for submission; attendance report, grade report and discipline report. If your child does not have a discipline report, please request a statement from the school office on letterhead that your child does not have a discipline report. If appropriate, have the 504 Plan, Gifted Test scores, and IEP ready if one or more of these applies for your child.

You have three options to submit these documents.

Option 1: Attaching the documents (PDF preferred) during in the online application process

Option 2: Sending the documents (PDF preferred) via e-mail to Elementary Education

Preparing your documents to be submitted via the online Open Enrollment application or e-mail, look in the Apple Store or Google Play Store for an app like CamScanner-Phone PDF creator or similar, to turn your phone into a mobile scanner and create a PDF of your documents.

NOTE: The District does not take responsibility for any apps that you may download.

Option 3: Hand carry the documents to the District Office

If you choose to submit the required documents via e-mail or by dropping them off at the District office, the documents MUST be received within 5 working days of the submitted application or the application will be DENIED.

For students currently attending one of our schools, no need to submit any documents. The school office will review the information in Infinite Campus.

• An application is needed for EACH child.
• Submitting multiple applications for one child will result in the applications being denied or admission being revoked.
  • Example: You submit an application but have not heard the status of the application. If you then submit a second application, both applications will be revoked.
  • If you share custody with the absent parent, please decide who is going to submit the application.
    
• Providing false information on the application will result in the application being denied or admission being revoked.
• If you use the auto-fill feature to complete application fields in your web brower, please double check the fields for the correct information.
• An e-mail confirmation will be sent once the application has been submitted. If you do not receive your e-mail confirmation after 20 minutes, please check your junk mail or spam folder for the e-mail confirmation. If you still haven't received the e-mail confirmation, send an e-mail to Elementary Education to verify your application was received.

Please allow yourself enough time to complete the application in one session. The application will time out after 15 minutes. You will not be able to save and come back later to complete.

Once an elementary Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption application is approved, it is not necessary to reapply for Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption to the same school each year, unless the student wishes to change schools.

Approved Open Enrollments/Boundary Exemption do not carry over school to school.

Elementary Connect for K-6th grade (Understanding Elementary Connect)

• Parents who are interested in enrollling in Elementary Connect (Online Learning Model of Instruction) must apply for Open Enrollment. 
  • Gifted Education option is available for current CUSD students
  • General Education option available

*If the Open Enrollment Application is approved for Elementary Connect, the student may retain their seat at their attendance boundary school or open enrollment school for the balance of the 2020-2021 school year.

• Families may choose to transition back to in-person at the quarter or semester breaks of the 2020-2021 school year. 
  
  
  • There will be 5 full days of instruction per week
  • District technology devices available if needed
  • Daily teacher led instruction in whole and small groups (live lessons)
  • Course content will cover: Math, Science, Social Science, English Language Arts and Elective areas
  • CTA: Teachers supplement the self-paced math content with Saxon; Spalding will be taught LIVE
  • Individualized supports and accommodations will be provided
  • In classroom celebrations, virtual and on-site field trips
  • Customized online learning track will be available for English Language Learners, Special Education, Dual Immersion, and Gifted classes as appropriate (more details will be shared with the families this would affect)

Priority Preschool is a program offered through Special Education Services for children ages 3 to 5 (not of kindergarten age as of September 1st deadline). Priority Preschool provides special strategies to assist children in reaching their developmental milestones. On the Open Enrollment application, you will have the option to select up to 2 schools for this program. The following schools offer Priority Preschool:

Your child's application will only be reviewed by the Special Education office if:

• you have attached your child's IEP and the other required documents to the Open Enrollment application because they currently do not attend a Chandler Unfiied school.
• you sent your child's IEP and the other required documents to the Elementary Education Office.
• your child is currently attending a Chandler Unified school and the Special Education office has your child's IEP on file.
  

On the Open Enrollment application, you will have the option of selecting up to 2 Gifted Program sites and 2 School Choice sites.

To be considered for Early Entrance into Kindergarten, your child's 5th birthday falls between September 1 and December 31, 2020. An Open Enrollment application AND Kindergarten Readiness Test are required for ALL Early Entrance into Kindergarten requests.

You will have the option of selecting up to 2 School Choice sites. In order for your Open Enrollment application to be reviewed, your child will need to take the Kindergarten Readiness Test (KRT) through the District's Assessment Office. Once the Elementary Education office receives the KRT results, your application will be reviewed. If your child qualifies for Early Entrance into Kindergarten, you will receive a call from the Elementary Office and/or the approved school.

You will have the option of selecting up to 2 self-contained Gifted Program schools. The following schools offer self-contained satellite Gifted services:

You will also have the option of selecting up to 2 School Choice schools if you choose to.

Gifted Programming applications will not be reviewed until the Gifted office has received Gifted Test scores for your child. If your child takes the Gifted Test after you submit the Open Enrollment application, the date of the Gifted Test scores will SUPERSEDE the Open Enrollment Application date for Gifted Program sites ONLY. Information on how to register for the Gifted test can be found in the Gifted Testing section.

The Elite Performance Academy at the CTA Humphrey Campus is for students in grades 3rd through 8th who compete at a high level of activity outside of the school day.

The Chandler Traditional Academy program offers a solid foundation of fundamental and higher level thinking skills primarily through direct instruction. The Language Arts curriculum utilizes the Spalding phonics program. They offer Saxon Mathematics as the math curriculum. Additionally, the math instructionis advanced by one grade level.

• All completed applications will be assigned a Priority Group from Elementary Education.
• The school office will verify their class ratios of capacity and this will determine how many Open Enrollments will be approved for each grade level.
• The school office will access their online Priority Group Reports to review their applications. The applications are reviewed by the Priority Group and by the date and time for each grade level by the school. The student's, attendance report, discipline report and grade report will also be reviewed. If the student is currently NOT attending a CUSD school and the requested documents are not attached to the application, you have 5 working days to submit them to the Elementary Education office.
  
• If more than one School Choice is listed on the application, the 1st School Choice will review the application, if they are not able to approve the application because of capacity, the 2nd School Choice will review the application.
  • If you are offered your 2nd School Choice and you decline this seat, your application will be closed.

• If the application is approved by your requested school, you will receive a call from the front office. You might receive an e-mail from the Attendance Technician/Registrar.
  
• The parent/legal guardian must confirm the acceptance of the approved Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption with the school office within 5 working days from the contact date or the seat will be offered to the next applicant.
• School registration/enrollment with the approved school AFTER you receive notification from the school. See the Student Registration and Enrollment Information section for more information on registration.
• The Elementary Education office will send notification letters via e-mail to the e-mail address that was in the application or by US Mail to the address that was listed in the application.
• Once accepted, continuing Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption is subject to review each year without reapplication if continuing at the enrolled site. 
• It is expected that the student on an Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption remain at the approved school for the entire year. Revoking an Open Enrollment/Boundary Exemption requires district approval.

The Elementary Education office will send the notification letter via e-mail to the e-mail address that was in the application or by US Mail to the address that was listed in the application.

If you receive a denial letter due to capacity (no seat available), you don't have to reapply. If a seat becomes available, you will be contacted by the school office.

• If you would like to cancel your application because you're wanting to change your School Choice order, forward your e-mail confirmation to tobin.stephanie@cusd80.com to request your application to be cancelled and include the reason for your cancellation. A reply e-mail will be sent when the application has been cancelled.
• If you changed your mind about your submitted application, forward your e-mail confirmation to tobin.stephanie@cusd80.com to request your application to be cancelled and include the reason for your cancellation. A reply e-mail will be sent when the application has been cancelled.
• If you made an error on the application (wrong birth date, a name spelled incorrectly, wrong gender, address entered incorrectly), forward your e-mail conformation to tobin.stephanie@cusd80.com with the corrected information. We cannot make changes to your 1st choice school selection. If you left the 1st choice school blank, we will not be able to add a school for you.

We understand the importance of knowing the status of your application. Please be patient, as it may take some time before hearing about your application. The applications are NOT reviewed by the Elementary Education office, as they are reviewed by the school. You will be contacted by the requested school, IF your application is approved.
