We appreciate your attendance at one of the scheduled public meetings where growth in Chandler Unified School District’s Southeast Region along the Val Vista Corridor was discussed.
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the demographics, projected growth and elementary boundary options, we welcome your feedback. The recommendations will be made to the Chandler Unified School District Governing Board at their regularly scheduled board meeting on May 8, 2019. The elementary school boundary changes will go into effect for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Please provide your e-mail and phone number in the feedback form so that we can respond. Also, we may respond and post your recommendation or suggestion to our Frequently Asked Questions.
Again, thank you for your feedback.

FAQs
-
Do you have the program selected for the Gifted Academy?
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/29/2019This has not been finalized as we are still in review and soliciting feedback from our gifted families. We will continue to solicit feedback through the remainder of this year, and will develop the program by January of 2020 in time for Open Enrollments and parent meetings.
-
Can you please keep in mind the number of times the boundary impact changes have impacted our neighborhood?
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/29/2019Yes. We have had massive expansion in this region over the past decade which we have constructed new schools and created boundary changes for the new schools. Although our data shows that most resident students attend the school within the boundary, we do provide families choice to attend the same school or any school of their choice via Open Enrollment with priority status.

What about future Open Enrollments to the schools that are highly impacted by growth?
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/29/2019We typically lose students to other sites through the same open enrollment process that we gain them. It is almost 1:1 at some sites. We watch the number of open enrollments at our larger sites and make it a priority to keep families together when we can. (Based on Capacity to provide the services or class.) Sites try to keep healthy cohorts of Kindergarten classrooms so that they do not have to reduce teachers over time and sustain the natural enrollment attrition that occurs.
-
Will students who attend Satellite Gifted Self-Contained sites have to move the Gifted Academy by 2020 - 2021 when these changes take effect?
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/29/2019No we always work with families on a transition plan and anticipate doing the same. We will have a survey for gifted parents as we have many parents whose children qualify for gifted services but do not go to a satellite site. They may want the option of the Gifted Academy in 2020 - 2021 as well as other families in the Gifted Satellite programs. We will provide that choice for our families.
-
If an option shifts students to a site that does not offer the CTA programing will the new site add that component?
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/29/2019No but we will work with families so that children may attend their current site or other site of their choice that provides that programming.
-
Will the Weinberg name go to the new campus in the Weinberg Boundary or stay with the current site? Will students have the opportunity to participate in the new school mascot, song etc.?
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/29/2019This will be decided by the Governing Board as they alone have the right to the naming of schools. However, we will have student an parent involvement in key aspects of the school culture at the new school.
-
Will currently enrolled students have the opportunity to stay in their current schools?
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/29/2019Yes we provide families with choice. By 2020 - 2021, new families to the newly formed boundary will attend their boundary school unless on open enrollment to a CUSD school.
-
We live in Freeman Farms and are in the boundary for both CTA Freedom and Weinberg Elementary. Will the options impact our neighborhood as they are not shown in any of the options?
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/29/2019That is correct we will continue to provide dual enrollment to the Freeman Farms neighborhood at CTA Freedom or the option and recommendation our Board adopts be it Weinberg or Elementary 31 which both are in or considered for the Weinberg Boundary.

We have a Gilbert address. I feel moving our area to Gilbert schools makes more sense.
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/8/2019Thank you for your input. Gilbert Public Schools and Chandler Unified School Districts are two separate entities with Governing Boards that approve Boundary recommendations. Any changes of school attendance between Districts would be through the Open Enrollment process as Chandler Unified School District does not have authority to reboundary within another District.

I think it would be ideal if the Weinberg name could go with it and rename the new school.
Posted by Stephanie Tobin on 4/8/2019Thank you for your input. We are checking to see the conditions of how Weinberg was built and the land acquisition. We will know more in the next 30 days.
