Championship Athletics
The Chandler Unified School District is a premier district of choice with a rich athletic tradition at the highest level of interscholastic athletics. It is our goal that students experience not only all of the tremendous academic opportunities available to them, but also achieve all of their athletic objectives. Chandler High (2020-2021)
The Chandler Wolves defeated the Hamilton Huskies 23-21 on Saturday, Dec. 12 and are once again the Open Division Champions! This is the Wolves' fifth straight title and sixth in seven years. Congratulations, players, Coach Garretson and staff, on another undefeated season and state championship!
Chandler High (2020-2021)
Kaylie Ray was named to First Team All-CUSD 2020 Girls Volleyball. In addition, Taylor Aguano and Reece Denney were Honorable Mention. Congratulations to Bobby Robson, Coach of the Year!
Hull Elementary (2020-2021)
The annual Turkey Bowl at Hull Elementary was a little different this year with only sixth grade students, and no fans to cheer them on. It was still a great time. Everybody won, and principal Josh Cagle refereed.
Chandler High (2020-2021)
The Chandler Wolves defeated the Hamilton Huskies 34-14 on Friday night to win the Battle of Arizona Ave. and the Geico Series trophy. In addition, the 7-0 Wolves are the 6A Premier Champions and enter the Arizona Open Division tournament ranked #1 in the state and #5 in the nation.
Hamilton High (2020-2021)
Hamilton High defeated rival Perry 3-1 Saturday night at Mesquite High to win the state girls volleyball title. The Pumas, playing in their second straight 6A state championship game, won the opener 25-19 before the Huskies prevailed in the next three, 25-12, 25-22 and 25-18 to win their first state title. Congratulations to Huskies coach Sharon Vanis and Pumas coach Fred Mann on great seasons.
Casteel High (2020-2021)
Casteel High's Dayton Carlson won the Division II State Championship with a time of 15:06, on November 13. He set the course record at Crossroads Park as well as having the best time out of all the divisions. Congratulations, Dayton! Boys Varsity Cross Country finishes 5th place at AIA State Meet

Sasha Gesner participated in last week's Early Signing event and has committed to swim at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Congratulations to Hamilton's Neha Shakir who won the single AIA Division I Badminton state championship on November 12.
Perry High (2020-2021)
Perry High captured its fourth consecutive AIA Division I Badminton state championship with a 5-2 win over Sunnyslope Thursday night (November 12) at Mesquite High. The Pumas are 56-0 during the four-year reign. In addition, the Pumas team of Nikhita Jataraj and Ashley Rodarte won the double state title.
Hamilton High (2020-2021)
Hamilton High School rallied from a six-shot deficit to win the AIA boys golf state championship in November at the Tucson National Sonoran Course. Junior Mahanth Chirravuri won the individual title with a spectacular 64 in the second round in windy conditions. Anawin Pikulthong finished third, Johnny Walker sixth for the Huskies, who finished 12 shots ahead of Brophy Prep.

Congratulations to Casteel swimmer Brecken Scroggin who won in the Girls 1 meter diving at the state Swim & Dive championships on November 6.

Congratulations to Perry swimmer Evan Nail who won in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle at the state Swim & Dive championships on November 6.

Ian Hirota broke the Chandler High school record (previously set by Mark Jurek in 2014) in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 58.89.

Eli Sanders has been named the Arizona Cardinals High School Player of the Week for his tremendous game against Pinnacle. Sanders, a Boise State commit, rushed for 213 yards and four touchdowns in just the first half of the Wolves' 64-0 win over the Pioneers. Congratulations, Eli!

Offensive Lineman Cess Ibarra has been selected as a 2020 Great American Rivalry Series Scholar Athlete. This award is presented by the US Marine Corps in partnership with the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Basha High (2020-2021)
Basha High was recognized in May as a Special Olympics National Banner Unified Champion School® -- one of six Arizona schools to be honored. A Special Olympics Unified Champion School® demonstrating commitment to inclusion by meeting ten national standards of excellence receives national banner recognition. Unified Sports Photo Album

The Chandler Wolves, the 13-0 defending Football State Champions, enter the 2020 season ranked in the top ten nationally by both MaxPreps (#7) and USA Today (#8). The football season is currently set to start on October 2nd.

Congratulations to Brandon Buckner, the only player from Arizona to be named USA TODAY's first-team Pre-season All-American.
Basha High (2020-2021)
On her second throw, Basha High 9th Grader Gabriella Garcia launched a 128' absolute bomb, which instantly made her the #1 ranked javelin thrower in the country at her age. In early June, Gabriella competed in her first ever track meet (The Desert Dreams). Gabriella accomplished this with no more that eight total practices in preparation. Tweet from Coach Ocampo

The 2020 Chandler High Volleyball Teams were recognized nationally by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for strong academics.

The Lady Wolves Basketball Team's Unity group made a difference in the community by helping out at Operation Back to School. Lady Wolves Basketball United's mission is to make an impact and inspire others to take action in their communities. "Despite our race, religion, and any other differences, we are one team. We are one family. We are one community. This is more than basketball. This is unity." The LWBU is also sponsoring a food drive for the Chandler Care Center.
Perry High (2020-2021)
Congratulations to Makayla Long. Makayla was the NSAFxAthleticNET Virtual National Championships Discus National Champion, the Shot Put National Runner Up, and was named to the AthleticNET All-America Team. Makayla also had the top discus mark in the United States at 166'11' and the 2nd best shot put mark at 48'4' for the entire 2020-21 high school track and field season.
Chandler Online Academy (2019-2020)
SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Mark Self came to Chandler Online Academy to have more time to train in his chosen sport of gymnastics. Mark succeeded with his academics, his athletics and with his career training. He competed in Regionals for his gym as a level 10 gymnast and also earned his Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification while attending the East Valley Institute of Technology. Next year, he will use his CCNA and other Cybersecurity certifications to begin his career in Information Technology. His favorite quote by Juan DeBiedma summarizes his thoughts about this next part of his life: "It's my personal belief that human beings are naturally meant to persevere. No matter what happens, as long as we simply make the decision not to give up, it simply does get better if you believe it will. " Mark has never given up on any dream he has set out to pursue and has found great success. Congratulations Mark! We are grateful to have watched you persevere and rise above all expectations! Hamilton High (2019-2020)
The National Football Foundation's Valley of the Sun Chapter awarded Hamilton High's offensive lineman coach Mark Tucker with the Frank Kush Coaching Award during the 39th annual awards (held virtually). He is the first assistant coach to be recognized for the prestigious honor. Mark has been coaching with Hamilton for 22 years and has helped the team win eight state titles.

The National Wrestling Hall of Fame announced the state winners of the Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award, and CHS is proud to announce that Stefana Jelacic is Arizona's state winner. Winners were evaluated and selected based on three criteria: success, standout performances and sportsmanship in wrestling; review of GPA and class rank, academic honors and distinctions; and participation in activities that demonstrate commitment to character and community.
Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus (2019-2020)
SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Ayaan Omair has been a part of the Arizona College Prep - Erie family since 7th grade. He was in the high school basketball team as an underclassman and a part of the track and field team as a senior. He has actively volunteered in our community center helping the youth. Ayaan is a kind and friendly person who loves to help people in need. He will be attending Arizona State University to study aerospace engineering. We wish him all the best for his future. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Curtis Wilkerson is a pursuer of excellence. He is a scholar, entrepreneur, and a natural born leader. His hard work in academics has earned him several scholarships. He is a proud winner of the four year National Army ROTC scholarship. He also earned the Dean's Award and the ASU Medallion Scholarship. He plans to attend ASU's College of Nursing and serve in the Army Nurse Corps after graduation. Curtis was a varsity wrestler at ACP Erie and qualified for the state wrestling tournament his junior and senior years. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Alex James Gilchrist is an outstanding student-athlete who consistently strives for athletic and academic excellence and was the recipient of the Big4 Award for Track last year. A true competitor, Alex has proudly defended ACP's Knight honor on the football field, basketball court and track. Despite being diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic the first day of his freshman year and having knee surgery and shoulder injuries, Alex persevered and was one of the starters for ACP's varsity football team every year since its inception in 2017. In addition, Alex was also a true Knight on ACP's varsity track team for four years and on the JV Basketball team for two years. He was a member of the Honor Society and Key Club. Alex's hard work and dedication has resulted in graduating with academic summa cum laude honors and as an AP Scholar with Distinction. Alex will study biology at ASU in the fall and has plans to attend medical school in the future. ACP Erie Seniors Highlights

SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Kylie Ibach has maintained a 4.7 GPA and is a National Honor Society member as well as one of the officers (historian). She has lettered in varsity soccer for four years, track for two years, and badminton one year. Kylie has helped earned two state championships for the women's soccer team. She will be attending The Master's University in California with academic and soccer scholarships. Kylie will studying kinesiology with emphasis on pre-physical therapy. Kylie will also be playing on their women's soccer team. She has earned three scholarships from The Master's University: Master's Distinguished Award, Founder Donor Grant, and the Kinesiology Center of Excellence Scholarship. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Jackson Kendall is a perceptive, kind, hardworking leader and gentle giant, as well as an entrepreneurial pool builder. At 17, he was busy making his own car payments, paying towards owning his own piece of heavy equipment, and working on a home remodel with his dad in his spare time. Jackson is a true inspiration to fellow students. When Jackson was done with school each day, he went to work digging pools and transporting heavy equipment, sometimes getting home around midnight. Jackson loves football. Even after suffering an injury during his senior year, Jackson was always there to support his teammates and cheer everyone on. Jackson was always checking in on his friends in the special education classroom. He went out of his way to develop bonds with each of these kids and check in with their teachers to see how he could reach out to or help them. More amazingly, he would notice when something seemed amiss and mention it in hopes that he could help everyone fit in and be well. Casteel High Seniors Highlights

SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Scott Kanning is a graduating senior from Hamilton High School. The youngest of three siblings, both his older sister and brother are Husky Alumni. Scott is a student-athlete who has played club soccer for five years and was a proud member of the Hamilton Huskies boys varsity team. Scott is graduating with a 3.98 GPA and is a recipient of the Northern Arizona University Lumberjack Scholarship. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Tyler Macpherson will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he will be majoring in aeronautical science. Tyler was a member of the varsity golf team all four years and will be playing golf for Embry-Riddle on an athletic and academic scholarship.
