Championship Athletics
The Chandler Unified School District is a premier district of choice with a rich athletic tradition at the highest level of interscholastic athletics. It is our goal that students experience not only all of the tremendous academic opportunities available to them, but also achieve all of their athletic objectives. Arizona College Prep High School (2023-2024)
The Arizona College Prep Knights secured the DIII State Championship titles in both the boys' and girls' swimming. Coached by the dedicated duo of Kristine Nelson and Carson Sundem, this achievement represents back-to-back triumphs for the Knights, solidifying their status as the reigning champions. Congratulations to the Knights on their outstanding performance in the pool!
Arizona College Prep High School (2023-2024)
Congratulations to following ACP students who won Division III state titles in their individual events: The Girls 200 Medley Relay featured a stellar performance by Ashlyn Tierney, Nicole Byrnes Cortinas, Saylor Debnam, and Abigail Lawarence from ACP. Nicole Byrnes Cortinas of ACP shone in the 200 IM. The Girls 200 Free Relay by ACP, with Abigail Lawarence, Adia Peterson, Surie Feng, and Nicole Byrnes Cortinas, delivered an impressive performance. The Boys Relay team, consisting of Langston Lindsey, Tiago Wakefield, Elijah Peng, and Jeremiah Boyer from ACP, showcased their excellence. Nicole Byrnes Cortinas of ACP achieved remarkable results in the 100 Breaststroke event.

Taylor Drewry from Basha High secured victory in the Division I cross country state championship, showcasing an outstanding performance.

Congratulations to Casteel's Division I swim state title winners: Baylee Sloan in the 200 IM event and August Vetsch in both the 200 Free and 100 Fly events.
Chandler High (2023-2024)
What a win by the Chandler Wolves! The team took back the Battle of Arizona Avenue trophy by taking down the Hamilton Huskies 49-13 Friday night. Prior to the event, the select student-athletes from each school (Chandler High and Hamilton High) were awarded scholarships. We are grateful for the community's ongoing support of our schools, students, and staff!
Hamilton High (2023-2024)
The Hamilton Boys Golf team has clinched the D1 State Championship, marking their remarkable 10th state title victory. Under the guidance of Coach Steve Kanner, the Huskies continue to showcase their excellence. Additionally, Angela Chen, representing Hamilton High, secured the title of Division I Individual Champion in Girls' golf.

Auxier Elementary (2023-2024)
Evan Corbin, 5th Grader at Auxier Elementary School, competed at the USA National Championships and Team Trials in July. Evan brought home a Bronze medal representing Arizona and Chandler Martial Arts Center!
Casteel High (2023-2024)
Casteel Senior, Joshua Corbin, competed at the USA National Championships and Team Trials in Richmond, Virginia this summer. He made the USA Junior Karate Team by placing in the top three in the nation! Joshua will be training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado and competing internationally through out the year.
Hamilton High (2023-2024)
Nikolas You made a monumental achievement over the summer. He set a new all-time world record at a powerlifting competition in Las Vegas on July 11 and brought home four gold medals. Hamilton High (2023-2024)
HAMILTON SOPHOMORE BECOMES MULTI-NATIONAL CHAMPION IN 2023 ROLLER SKATING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PENNSYLVANIA
Hamilton sophomore Olivia Lu recently won gold in the Domestic International event and two silver medals in the Freshman A and Junior Women Solo Dance events in the 2023 American Artistic Roller-Skating National Championships held in Pennsylvania, marking this year her fifth consecutive year as the national champion. Despite contending with older and more seasoned skaters, she emerged victorious among a large number of competitors, exhibiting the exceptional skills she has honed over her 11-year journey in the competitive arena. Congratulations to Olivia for her outstanding achievements!
Rice Elementary (2022-2023)
Great news! Rice Rhinos took home the second-place trophy for cheer at the district competition hosted by Hamilton High School on Saturday. Congratulations to our talented team for their incredible energy, spirit, and for representing Rice with pride. We want to give a huge round of applause to Coach Cook for her dedication and hard work in preparing our students.
Hamilton High (2022-2023)
On November 23, the Hamilton High School tennis courts were dedicated in honor of long-time tennis coach Phil Gonzales. Phil Gonzales dedicated thirty-eight years of teaching and coaching in the Chandler Unified School District. He worked at Willis Junior High School, Bogle Junior High School, Chandler High School, and the past twenty-four years were at Hamilton High School. Phil's love of coaching tennis has produced many individual and team champions setting the stage for a tradition of success which continues in the Hamilton program today. Weinberg Gifted Academy (2022-2023)
Our students excel outside the classroom, as well! 6th grader Olivia Bracke recently competed in the state "Drive, Cip, and Putt" competition. She placed 2nd in putting and 5th overall! Way to go, Olvia! Keep up the hard work.
Arizona College Prep High School (2022-2023)
Nicolas Acedo, ACP High School freshmen, won a silver in Kumite and a bronze in Kata in the 2022 National Karate Championships in Spokane, WA in July. Nicholas represented Chandler Martial Arts Center, Chandler, AZ.

Emilio Acedo, ACP Middle School eighth grader, won a bronze in Kumite and a bronze in Kata in the 2022 National Karate Championships in Spokane, WA in July. Emilio represented Chandler Martial Arts Center, Chandler, AZ.
Arizona College Prep High School (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Sophomore Andrew Yang won the AIA Div. 3 state singles championship at the Paseo Racquet Center. Andrew, seeded No 2, beat No. 4 Jacob Kauffman in the championship match 6-2, 7-6. The ACP High School tennis program is coached by John Deogracias.
Chandler Traditional Academy - Liberty Campus (2021-2022)
Second grader Kelly DiPanfilo was chosen by Ocotillo Living Magazine Athlete of the Month. Kelly is a part of Vortex Lacrosse Club and will be traveling to San Diego so she can guest play on an elite Lacrosse team. Way to go, Kelly!
Chandler High (2021-2022)
Every single Chandler High E-Sports team made it to the 2022 Playoffs. The Smash team ended their season with a loss against the second seed team from Willow Canyon High School. Hayden Wendt, Madden 22 player, ended his amazing winning streak due to a scheduling conflict with a national Robotics competition. Daniel Torrez is still in the running for the PlayVS championship for Madden, currently competing in the regional semifinals. The Rocket League team entered playoffs at seed 13 and faced the Seton Sentinels from Seton Catholic Prep in the first round. In a best-of-7 game series, the Wolves swept 4-0, but then lost to Brophy last Friday. Congratulations to CHS E-Sports and Coach Samantha Seery on a terrific first season!
Arizona College Prep Middle School (2021-2022)
ACP Middle School students Nicolas Acedo (8th grade, pictured left) and Emilio Acedo (7th grade, pictured right), participated in the Junior International Karate Cup in Las Vegas. Nicolas won a silver medal in Kumite and a bronze medal in Kata. Emilio won a silver medal in Kumite. Both were representing Chandler Martial Arts Center.
Payne Junior High (2021-2022)
Payne Junior High eighth grader and golf club member, Trevor Rogers, had a perfect shot on No. 6 at Fountain of the Sun Country Club that found the bottom of the cup in one shot, A HOLE IN ONE, at their match versus Eastmark. Way to go, Trevor!
Hamilton High (2021-2022)
Hamilton High recently had a student-athlete selected to the Valley of the Sun Chapter of the National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Team. This recipient, Dawson Hubbard, was recognized on April 23 at Wild Horse Pass.

Two former Hamilton High students Channing Chasten, and Niall Dunn (current Phoenix Rising pro soccer team members) recently visited Hamiton and surprised teachers David Belfort and Heather Hackett with tickets to an upcoming game for having a positive and meaningful influence on them while they were at Hamilton.

CTA Liberty sixth grader Dylan Arango is a gymnastics superstar! Dylan qualified for the Regional Championships, and he was one of five gymnasts selected to represent Team Arizona as an All-Star.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Hamilton High took the state title in Open Div. Small Jazz at the AIA Arizona State Cheer and Dance Competition on March 12. Hamilton also won 3rd in the Div. I Pom competition. Congratulations!

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Perry High took home state championships in Div. I Varsity Show Cheer and Open Div. Medium Jazz at the AIA Arizona State Cheer and Dance Competition on March 12. Perry also took 2nd in Div. I All Girls Stunt. Congratulations!

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: The Perry Pumas won their first-ever basketball championship by beating district rival Hamilton High, 48-38, in the 6A final game at Veterans Memorial Coliseum Wednesday night. It was the first time two schools from CUSD met in a basketball championship game.
Chandler High (2021-2022)
The Chandler High School Boys Soccer Wolves are the 6A State Runners-Up! The Wolves finished the season 14-7-1 and made history again at Chandler High. They battled for 5 strong games in the past few weeks during playoffs, knocking off Kofa 19th seed, Tolleson 4th seed in the first round, Highland 12th seed in the quarterfinals, and Tucson 1st seed in the semi-finals. The team fell to Desert Vista 2nd seed in the state finals.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Casteel High School, behind four individual state champions, won its second consecutive Div. II wrestling title at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, February 19. Jackson Rustad (120 pounds), Sergio Ramos (132 pounds), Brennan Callison (165 pounds) and Raychon Cardona (285 pounds) brought home medals for the Colts.
