Host Families Needed
Our new overseas guest teachers are going to be far away from friends and family and would love to learn about life in an American home. Having a host family to support them and help them adjust to their new environment will be invaluable to the teacher; especially in the beginning, as s/he tries to adjust quickly to a new way of life and new responsibilities. That is why we are seeking host families for our incoming Chinese guest teachers. Hosting a guest teacher is an experience that is unforgettable and can enhance your life and the life of your children.
By opening your home and heart to a guest teacher, your family will gain a new global perspective, many memories and learn some Mandarin language. The teacher will gain the friendship and support they need to start their U.S. experience in a positive way.
If selected, the Chandler Unified School District Dual Language Immersion Coordinator will assist you in ensuring a successful host experience. A workshop will be held to cover items that will be helpful for you to know about hosting a guest teacher, such as informing them about house rules and expectations, what the family lifestyle is like (bedtime hours, phone usage, TV, computer, etc.), if they will be asked to do any chores, what the food arrangements will be, and more.
The selected family must commit to hosting the teacher for one month and help with some transportation. See the Host Family Agreement application for more details about hosting. If you have questions please contact Tracey Pastor, Assistant Director Fine Arts, Music and World Languages at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 480-224-3704.
