They've performed exceptionally well over the past three years: organizing, planning, and participating in a myriad of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities; amassing over 6,000 community and school service hours; and upholding core values of Integrity, Service Before Self, and Excellence. Their hard work and dedication culminated in being designated a 2018 DISTINGUISHED UNIT WITH MERIT by HQ AFJROTC. This designation is made only every three years (following a formal unit evaluation) and is reserved for only the highest performing AFJROTC units around the world. Not only are our cadets considered the best of the best, they've also earned the privilege for five cadets to be nominated for appointments to the Air Force Academy next year… an awesome opportunity offered only to schools with a Distinguished unit.

The VFW is a staunch supporter of JROTC programs and their JROTC Cadet of the Year program specifically rewards academic and civic achievement, leadership, and community and school involvement. Carson demonstrated all of these qualities this year, and then some. At our annual Hamilton High AFJROTC Awards ceremony on 9 May, Sun Lakes VFW (Post 8053) presented Carson with a $200 grant. He will also be honored at the VFW State Convention on 7 June, where he'll receive a JROTC medal and a $500 award. If you know Carson Beck, you understand why he's receiving this award.
