Office Mix Migration
If you have used Office Mix to create videos for students or staff, you may have received an e-mail stating that Microsoft is shutting down the Office Mix service on May 1. The functionality of Office Mix is being built in to the latest versions of PowerPoint without the need for a separate add-in, and videos can now be hosted on Microsoft Stream.
Microsoft has provided an easy way to migrate videos from the Office Mix website to Microsoft Stream. This must be done before May 1 to avoid losing your Office Mix videos.
To migrate videos from Office Mix to Microsoft Stream:
- Log in to the Office Mix website (be sure to choose the Work or School Account option).
- Click My Mixes at the top of the screen.
- Click the orange Migrate button at the top of the screen.
- Read the disclaimer and click the orange Migrate Now button.
You may be asked to log in again, but you should be returned to your My Mixes page and should see messages next to your videos indicating that migration is underway. You will know when your videos have been successfully migrated because on the My Mixes page, migrated videos will have a message that says "Migration Succeeded" (you may also receive e-mails from Microsoft Stream stating that your videos have been processed).
A few tips:
- We have produced a video tutorial that outlines the process of migrating videos from Office Mix to Microsoft Stream.
- We strongly encourage everyone to "clean out" their Office Mix videos before migrating them to Microsoft Stream. Deleting videos that are no longer needed will help the migration go faster, and will avoid Stream being cluttered with outdated videos for other users.
- Be aware that all Office Mix metrics such as number of views, time spent viewing, question responses, etc., will not carry over to Microsoft Stream. If you wish to preserve this data, please download it from the Office Mix website before May 1.
- Advanced features of Office Mix such as quizzes/apps are no longer supported in Stream. This functionality may be added at a future date, but is not available at this time.
- While videos in Office Mix could be shared publicly, this is not the case in Microsoft Stream. Videos in Microsoft Stream can only be shared with or viewed by CUSD users who are logged on to their Office 365 account. Please keep this in mind when updating links to your Office Mix videos so they point to Stream instead.
Using Microsoft Stream
Once Office Mix videos have been migrated to Microsoft Stream, it is up to the user to update links to their videos, make sure the videos have proper sharing permissions, etc. Because Microsoft Stream is a relatively new service that is not familiar to many CUSD employees, we have produced the following video tutorials to help you get started. Please view these tutorials to familiarize yourself with Microsoft Stream and ensure your videos are properly shared.

What Can I Use to Create Videos?
The functionality of Office Mix is now built in to the latest versions of PowerPoint without the need for a separate add-in. These features are available now in the Recording tab in the Office 365 Pro Plus version of PowerPoint. This is the version that you can download for free using your Office 365 account, but it is not the version that we have installed on our CUSD computers. We are investigating ways that we can push this version of PowerPoint out to district computers, but do not yet have a solution in place to do so.
This article explains how to use the new Recording tab features in PowerPoint. We have also produced the following video tutorial to assist users who would like to use these features:
