• PTO Updates

Posted by Kristy Braaksma on 10/21/2021

    Hello KGA Families!!

PTO has some exciting announcements for you!

    1) Movie Night!!! Our first community event this year is going to be Movie Night on the Lawn! Friday, November 5th at 6pm we will be hosting Movie Night (movie to be announced). Student Council will be selling pizza (pre-orders will be coming) or you can bring your own dinner. This should be a wonderful night of food, friends and play; bring your picnic blanket and join the fun!

    2) PTO will be hosting a Virtual Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Starting Saturday, October 23rd pictures of pumpkins (real or fake, carved, painted, or otherwise decorated!) can be uploaded to the pinned post on the KGA PTO Facebook Page. Upload your photos from Saturday 10/23 through Friday, upload here10/29, then use the "Like" button to vote for your favorites between Saturday 10/30 and Sunday 10/31. Winner will be announced on Monday 11/1 and they will get a book of their choice!!

    3) Our next General PTO meeting will be Monday, November 8th, 3:45pm, in person at KGA. Mark your calendars and we will see you there!

Finally, as some of you may have noticed, we are celebrating Fall with a Movie Night this year instead of a Fall Festival. For multiple reasons we have decided to move the 2021 Fall Festival to a 2022 Spring Carnival. The biggest reason for this change was the uncertainty about 2nd Quarter District COVID guidelines causing a time crunch for planning. We want our KGA festival to be the best it can be, so after careful consideration we decided to move it to Friday, April 22nd. We also understand many families in our KGA community are hesitant at this time to attend larger group gatherings, even outdoors, and we are hopeful that by the Spring more of our families will be comfortable enough to attend this highly anticipated KGA event!

Thank you all for your support and dedication to our school!

  • Morning Recess

Posted by Kristy Braaksma on 10/12/2021

    October 12, 2021

    Dear Parents,

Welcome back! We hope that your family enjoyed Fall Intersession. We have missed our students and we were so happy to welcome them back this morning!

With the start of a new quarter and the return of cooler weather, we are going to reinstate morning recess from 8:45-9:00am for 1st through 6th grade students. Kindergarten will continue to report to their classrooms when they arrive.

Today in class, teachers are preparing students for this change and will direct them where to put their backpack, which playground to report to when they arrive, and where to line up when the bell rings. If you walk your child to campus, we ask that you drop them off at their designated playground to say goodbye and not enter the fields or playground areas. This will greatly help us to maintain a flow of foot traffic on campus as well as ensure that teachers are able to establish safe and efficient routines with students. Thank you for your cooperation with this request.

Again, welcome to the second quarter! If we can be of assistance, please feel free to reach out anytime.

    Sincerely,

    Lynn Weed, Principal

    Kristy Braaksma, Dean of Students

  • KGA Book Fair

Posted by Kristy Braaksma on 9/15/2021

    Dear KGA parents,

We are excited to announce that our KGA Spring book fair is next week!   We have partnered with Follett to put on a safe, in person book fair. All mitigation protocols will be in place. Your child will be coming home with a flyer today. This is a great time to stock up on Fall Break reading!

The book fair is going to look different than it has in the past.  Rather than having teachers put book requests into a bin for you to choose from, we're hoping to create less touchpoints.   Instead, we are asking that you help build your child's classroom library by purchasing a digital gift card for their teacher. These can be emailed to the teacher with a note saying who it's from.

TIP: Gift cards can be sent with students for their own purchases, and they never expire.  Please  click here to purchase digital gift cards.

Unfortunately, per district guidelines, parents will not be allowed to attend the book fair. If you'd prefer shopping with your children, please see information about the concurrent eFair below.

    Dates:

    9/20 - 9/24

    24/7 online 9-20 - 9/24

    eFair Information:

Click here to go directly to the KGA online book fair.

Books will be shipped to KGA and distributed from here.

As always, thank you for your support!

  • Art Masterpiece Volunteers

Posted by Kristy Braaksma on 8/27/2021

    Dear KGA parents,

Art Masterpiece is a parent volunteer-led program that brings art into the classrooms six times per year. There is a wide variety of art showcasing many eras, countries, styles and mediums. We are planning to get our program back up and running in the second quarter when parent volunteers will (fingers crossed!) be allowed back into the classrooms. If you are familiar with the program, CUSD has made some changes this year. All lessons are now available to us in an already created Google Slides format. This should make it easily accessible to all students and parents, so if you have previously been concerned about how to give the lesson, this format makes it much simpler. You just have to follow along on the Google Slides!

If you plan to volunteer with us this year, we need you to fill out this Google form (one for each student at KGA) by Friday, September 3rd.   https://forms.gle/AEJG1Fh3BNt2WSz87

We have always held a training session at the beginning of each school year for new volunteers and a quick part of the session for all volunteers to brush up on procedures. However, this year the district is requiring anyone who wants to TEACH a lesson go to either our training (currently tentatively scheduled for September 14th at 9:15am) or one of two at the district office in October (date/time TBD) where a district representative will explain the changes. We are working on a virtual option for ours, as is the district. So, if you only plan to assist this year you can come for just the first part of our training but if you plan to teach you will need to attend a full training session.

Please let us know if you have any questions; we would be happy to speak to you more about the program.

    Thank you,

    The KGA Art Masterpiece Board

  • Cash for Classrooms

Posted by Kristy Braaksma on 8/25/2021

This afternoon, your student will bring home an envelope for our annual participation in the Chandler Education Foundation Cash for Classrooms campaign.  CEF funds enrichment grants for classrooms and schools across Chandler Unified School District for innovative learning experiences like robotics, field trips, science materials, and technology.  Envelopes will come home today, and we ask you to consider giving what you can. If you'd prefer, you can also donate online at ChandlerCashForClassrooms.org.  Your contribution, no matter how much, makes a big difference. This year's focus will be to fund grants that prepare students for an increasingly technology driven workforce and world. Donations of $100 or more will receive a State Forty Eight CEF shirt!  For more information, visit ChandlerEdFoundation.org.
