  • School Closure:
    A letter from Mrs. Weed

    March 31, 2020

    Dear KGA Families,

This is such an unprecedented time, let me begin by saying we hope this letter finds your family healthy and safe.  Speaking on behalf of the entire KGA Family, we miss our kids, parents, and community so much. We will do our very best over the next two months to stay connected with each other, create new pathways for learning, and provide opportunities to engage in our world together.

As of today, the Governor has directed all Arizona schools to remain closed throughout the rest of this school year, May 28th, 2020.  KGA is operational as a campus to answer phones, emails, update our webpage, and have virtual meetings with staff. We are currently operating with a very small staff that are actually on the campus. Our KGA teachers are working diligently to connect and communicate to provide all our families with the resources needed to support online and distance learning. Office hours are a great opportunity for students to connect with their teachers about their individual needs.

Our teachers are working with site and district administration to deliver the instructional modules they have been given for the students each week.  We will continue with what we have in place for instruction and make connections as best we can. Our KGA teachers, as always, will look for ways to provide enrichment activities to families that would like to participate.  These enrichment activities are optional and should not place any additional burden on our families or students. We will seek to find innovative ways to provide schoolwork that supports our students’ ability to complete it with supplies they have at home and with minimal help from parents.

CUSD is still working on platforms to support synchronous, social learning.  This week, district-level instructional teams are working to ensure that the live launch to online learning goes well and is assisting with any troubleshooting. In addition, they have been working on the security and CIPA/COPPA compliance for moving to the live chats with students.  Training for teachers for Google Hangouts will be provided to teachers on Thursday and Friday, Microsoft Team training will start the week of April 6th, and they are waiting for Clever and Zoom to coordinate account creation and a K-12 platform developed for CUSD. We will keep you updated on timelines for all of this. We are confident that our teachers will be able to connect, live with our students as soon as possible.

We sent out a separate email about medication pick-ups that will need to occur this week.  Please look for all messages from our district and school to stay connected to the latest updates and information.

    Sincerely,

    Lynn Weed

  • Visiting KGA?

All parents and guests visiting our campus must check in at the office and wear a visitor name tag.  For the safety of your children, KGA staff will greet or question adults who are not wearing a visitor name tag, and subsequently make sure they check in at the office.
