Hello and welcome to Mr. Prichard's website.
My Education and Professional Background
I received my bachelor's degree in 1999 from Arizona State University majoring in Anthropology. I immediately entered Teaching Education for Arizona Science and Mathematics (TEAMS) at ASU during the summer of 1999. I graduated with my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction and my teaching certificate summer of 2000. I student taught at Willis and loved the staff and students so much that I decided to stay. I began my teaching career here at Willis in the fall of 2000. This is my 16th year. I have taught both 7th and 8th grade Science, ELL, special education, and gifted. This is my 9th year teaching science for the Willis Gifted Academy.
My Educational Philosophy
Science is amazing! I hope that throughout the course of this year you will feel the same. My main goal is to get you to think critically, scientifically, and creatively in order to solve problems and answer questions about the world around you. This means you have to think! There is only one wrong answer you can give on homework or during class discussion, that is I DON'T KNOW! I promise that if you try and do your best you will always succeed. Science has always been a subject that excites and intrigues me. From the outer reaches of the cosmos, to the microcosm of the cell or the atom, the grace with which a bird can propel itself through air, the apparent balance found within and among living things, the miracles of modern technology and medicine - The natural world is full of beauty, patterns, and mystery waiting to be discovered.

I am excited about this year. I hope to inspire and motivate you to love math. I know math is often a challenge for some students, but I hope to help you get it this year.
My Education and Professional Background
I have been teaching for over 20 years. I have a bachelor & masters degree in education along with a reading endorsement and a math certificate. I have taught elementary, junior high, and adult education classes. I constantly challenge my students to reach new heights and to continually challenge themselves. As their teacher, I will display strong values and maintain high expectations in order to have a strong impact on my students. I try to cultivate an innate curiosity and love of learning in my students. I want them to discover a passion for learning. I realize that the parents are the child's most valuable resource and I want to work together as much as possible. Welcome to Read 180! I am very excited to be a part of the process of developing lifelong readers of all types! In Read 180, we meet every other day to work on a variety of reading skills and strategies. Students move through three rotations to practice reading. During independent reading, students choose books to read independently. At the computer rotation, students work on skills geared for their independent needs. Tutorial is a time for small group teacher led instruction.
My Education and Professional Background
I was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. I earned a Bachelor of Arts from Spring Arbor University in Michigan and a Masters in Bilingual/Multicultural Education from NAU. I have been working in Chandler schools for over two decades at the elementary and middle school level.
My Educational Philosophy
All children deserve a high-quality education every day. It is my goal to create a safe, joyful and challenging class for my students. This is accomplished by creating engage academic assignments that are developmentally appropriate and aligned with the standards. All students have a right to learn and be taught; all students are capable of learning and applying that knowledge. Students who have never read before just need some guidance in getting the right book into their hands. As an educator, I also provide the support and instruction to teach, review and extend reading skills and strategies.

Olivas...
Welcome to 8th grade, Firebirds! I am thrilled to be joining you this year. This year, we will continue to develop your skills in the English language. Some of you might say, "But I already speak English!" Our language is rich and expansive; I hope to share that knowledge with you and help you grow as readers and writers. Ultimately, my goal is to make sure I prepare the students for high school.
My Education and Professional Background
This is my second year at Willis Junior High School, but this is my 7th year teaching. Before Willis, I taught 11th grade American Literature and 7th-12th grade English Language Learners. I was born and raised in Chandler, so it feels great to be working in my community. After graduating from Chandler High School, I attended Chandler-Gilbert Community College and eventually graduated from Arizona State University with my B.A. in Secondary Education-English. In 2014, I graduated from Northern Arizona University with my M.Ed. in Multicultural/Bilingual Education with an emphasis in English as a Second Language.
My Educational Philosophy
My goal as an educator is to create a safe, encouraging, and successful classroom to meet the diverse needs of my students. To understand who I am as an educator, it is essential to know who I am as a person. I was the first person in my family to attend college, and I would not be where I am today without my education. I view education as a vehicle of social justice and reform. I want to provide each student with an equal, competitive, and empowering education.

I am truly proud to call myself a Firebird! Since 1975, Willis has served the Chandler community, meeting with a great deal of success in academic and athletic endeavors and preparing young people for future success. I am honored to be able to serve as principal as our staff strives to ensure that Willis Junior High School meets the needs of our diverse student population. Our purpose is to serve the families of the Willis community, and we take that commitment seriously. Go Firebirds!

I am a firm believer that EVERY child is deserving of a quality education that is appropriately challenging and meets their individual needs. As the principal at Willis, my goal is to foster a school environment where students feel safe, valued, and supported. Chapin...
I am so excited to be starting my ninth year as the 7th Grade Counselor at Willis Jr High. I am a military brat which has allowed me the awesome opportunity to travel all over the world! I was born in Japan, and lived in London, San Diego, Virginia, Arizona, and have been stuck here ever since. My husband and I have two wonderful boys Logan 16 and Dylan 13 who keep us very busy!
My Education and Professional Background
I am entering my 17th year as a Jr High School Counselor, nine years for Gilbert Public Schools and am now in my ninth for CUSD. I earned my undergraduate degree in Family Studies and Psychology from the University of Arizona (Bear Down!) and my Masters in Education: Counseling from Ottawa University.
My Educational Philosophy
Jr High can be such a challenging time for all students: academically, peer pressure, family challenges, friendship challenges, bullying, fitting in , managing extracurricular activities, and so much more. Unfortunately students tend to try to take this on themselves. I am excited to work with all of the students at Willis to help all of these challenges become more manageable for them. I believe in our students and their potential both academically and socially. We all want our students to feel safe, valued, challenged, supported, and respected. I am looking forward to being a part of many more success stories here at Willis Jr High! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your student.

Lawlor...
Hello! Welcome to Willis Junior High School! My name is Miss Lawlor and I am the orchestra teacher. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
My Education and Professional Background
Miss Lawlor studied viola under Jacquelyn Schwandt at NAU where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. While attending NAU, she was an active member in the NAU Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras. Miss Lawlor also participated in the Suzuki training program at NAU. In her youth, she was a member of many orchestral groups including, the Arizona Youth Symphony, the East Valley Youth Symphony, and the Mesa Community College Community Orchestra. She also studied piano for 13 years under the instruction of Franchesa Retford. Before attending NAU, she was an assistant Suzuki strings instructor with Kevin Huang, a professional violinist from Julliard, and she volunteered at Blackbird Music Studio teaching a Suzuki violin class on Saturday mornings. Before joining the Chandler School District, Miss Lawlor was an orchestra director at Queen Creek Middle School and Gateway Preparatory Academy. She currently runs a private studio after school.
My Educational Philosophy
Music is an academic discipline. It incorporates aspects of math, language, history, reading, and science. It exercises the entire human brain with lessons in technique, rhythm, vocabulary, and notes reading. Students who participate in musical instruction benefit across all academic subjects. I believe every student can learn to appreciate music. Music transcends all other forms of communication. Student participation in orchestral groups encourages an environment of teamwork and self-discipline. It is exciting to watch students of varying abilities come together to achieve a common musical goal. It is my job to help students discover their individual musical potential and to help them develop a lifelong appreciation for this dynamic art.
