Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Mr. Prichard's website.

My Education and Professional Background

I received my bachelor's degree in 1999 from Arizona State University majoring in Anthropology. I immediately entered Teaching Education for Arizona Science and Mathematics (TEAMS) at ASU during the summer of 1999. I graduated with my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction and my teaching certificate summer of 2000. I student taught at Willis and loved the staff and students so much that I decided to stay. I began my teaching career here at Willis in the fall of 2000. This is my 16th year. I have taught both 7th and 8th grade Science, ELL, special education, and gifted. This is my 9th year teaching science for the Willis Gifted Academy.

My Educational Philosophy

Science is amazing! I hope that throughout the course of this year you will feel the same. My main goal is to get you to think critically, scientifically, and creatively in order to solve problems and answer questions about the world around you. This means you have to think! There is only one wrong answer you can give on homework or during class discussion, that is I DON'T KNOW! I promise that if you try and do your best you will always succeed. Science has always been a subject that excites and intrigues me. From the outer reaches of the cosmos, to the microcosm of the cell or the atom, the grace with which a bird can propel itself through air, the apparent balance found within and among living things, the miracles of modern technology and medicine - The natural world is full of beauty, patterns, and mystery waiting to be discovered.

Welcome!

I am excited about this year. I hope to inspire and motivate you to love math. I know math is often a challenge for some students, but I hope to help you get it this year.

My Education and Professional Background

I have been teaching for over 20 years. I have a bachelor & masters degree in education along with a reading endorsement and a math certificate. I have taught elementary, junior high, and adult education classes. I have had extensive training in math from AMP (Arizona Mathematics Project) to insure that my students are getting the highest level of teaching I can give them.

My Educational Philosophy

My educational philosophy is based upon the concept that we as educators, regardless of subject specialization, are teachers of life. Life is full of challenges, and we should learn from those challenges. Learning is a life-long process. Our most important duty is to prepare our students to develop the necessary skills that will lead them to a productive and successful adulthood. I constantly challenge my students to reach new heights and to continually challenge themselves. As their teacher, I will display strong values and maintain high expectations in order to have a strong impact on my students. I try to cultivate an innate curiosity and love of learning in my students. I want them to discover a passion for learning. By creating an encouraging, orderly classroom environment, involving discussions and group work, I will encourage students to become successful learners and problem solvers.

Welcome to Read 180! I am very excited to be a part of the process of developing lifelong readers of all types! In Read 180, we meet every other day to work on a variety of reading skills and strategies. Students move through three rotations to practice reading. During independent reading, students choose books to read independently. At the computer rotation, students work on skills geared for their independent needs. Tutorial is a time for small group teacher led instruction.

My Education and Professional Background

I was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. I earned a Bachelor of Arts from Spring Arbor University in Michigan and a Masters in Bilingual/Multicultural Education from NAU. I have been working in Chandler schools for over two decades at the elementary and middle school level.

My Educational Philosophy

All children deserve a high-quality education every day. It is my goal to create a safe, joyful and challenging class for my students. This is accomplished by creating engage academic assignments that are developmentally appropriate and aligned with the standards. All students have a right to learn and be taught; all students are capable of learning and applying that knowledge. Students who have never read before just need some guidance in getting the right book into their hands. As an educator, I also provide the support and instruction to teach, review and extend reading skills and strategies.

Welcome!

Welcome to 8th grade, Firebirds! I am thrilled to be joining you this year. This year, we will continue to develop your skills in the English language. Some of you might say, "But I already speak English!" Our language is rich and expansive; I hope to share that knowledge with you and help you grow as readers and writers. Ultimately, my goal is to make sure I prepare the students for high school.

My Education and Professional Background

This is my second year at Willis Junior High School, but this is my 7th year teaching. Before Willis, I taught 11th grade American Literature and 7th-12th grade English Language Learners. I was born and raised in Chandler, so it feels great to be working in my community. After graduating from Chandler High School, I attended Chandler-Gilbert Community College and eventually graduated from Arizona State University with my B.A. in Secondary Education-English. In 2014, I graduated from Northern Arizona University with my M.Ed. in Multicultural/Bilingual Education with an emphasis in English as a Second Language.

My Educational Philosophy

My goal as an educator is to create a safe, encouraging, and successful classroom to meet the diverse needs of my students. To understand who I am as an educator, it is essential to know who I am as a person. I was the first person in my family to attend college, and I would not be where I am today without my education. I view education as a vehicle of social justice and reform. I want to provide each student with an equal, competitive, and empowering education.

Welcome!

Welcome to Ms. Rouzaud’s 7th Grade Mathematics Class. I am looking forward to an exciting year of exploring Mathematics with our incoming firebirds.

My Education and Professional Background

I am a recent graduate of Arizona State University, GO Devils! During my time at ASU I studied Elementary Education. I student taught for a whole year in an 8th grade Pre-Algebra room. This is where I fell in love with teaching Mathematics and Junior High atmosphere. This will be my second year at Willis Junior High. I am so excited to continue on with the Firebird team this upcoming school year.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe learning takes place through interactive materials and lessons. I strive to make interactive foldables as well as engaging activities for my students to partake in. I believe strongly in keeping notebooks throughout the year where students can store all notes, homework and classroom assignments in one place. The reason I chose to teach Math is because there is always an answer and many different ways to discover that answer.

Welcome!

My aim as the Media Specialist is to help students see that it is NOT that they don't like to read, but that it is they aren't selecting the correct reading material for them! Reading builds brains!

My Education and Professional Background

A graduate of Scottsdale School District, Bethany Celmins is a University of Michigan alumnus. Ms. Celmins enrolled in Arizona State University's post baccalaureate certification program and completed an M. Ed. in special education. She earned a second M.Ed. in education technology management from Northcentral University in 2012. After nearly five years in the Kyrene School District, Ms. Celmins became a Bogle Bulldog in the 2000-2001 school year, coincidentally when Mr. Delp started in CUSD. She taught seventh grade language arts, eighth grade language arts, and Read 180, and English 1. Her duties outside of the classroom have encompassed: Media Crew, Drama Club, Running Club, Blanketeers (service club), and Homework Hub supervisor. Ms. Celmins transferred to Willis Junior High School to serve as the Media Specialist, teach the Read 180 program. In 2014 she learned she would be the full-time media specialist and could focus her energy in making reading contagious at Willis.

I am truly proud to call myself a Firebird! Since 1975, Willis has served the Chandler community, meeting with a great deal of success in academic and athletic endeavors and preparing young people for future success. I am honored to be able to serve as principal as our staff strives to ensure that Willis Junior High School meets the needs of our diverse student population. Our purpose is to serve the families of the Willis community, and we take that commitment seriously. Go Firebirds!

My Education and Professional Background

I hold a BA from Kansas State University and MEd from Arizona State University. I have worked for the Chandler Unified School District as a teacher (math and science) and administrator for fifteen years. All of my years in education have been at the junior high level--an age group that I find invigorating. I absolutely love the energy, enthusiasm, and resilience of students at this age.

My Educational Philosophy

I am a firm believer that EVERY child is deserving of a quality education that is appropriately challenging and meets their individual needs. As the principal at Willis, my goal is to foster a school environment where students feel safe, valued, and supported. As a school leader, I want to foster collaboration that benefits our students and our school community. Every child can succeed!

I am so excited to be starting my fifth year as the 7th Grade Counselor at Willis Jr High. I am a military brat which has allowed me the awesome opportunity to travel all over the world! I was born in Japan, and lived in London, San Diego, Virginia, Arizona, and have been stuck here ever since. My husband and I have two wonderful boys Logan 14 and Dylan 11 who keep us very busy!

My Education and Professional Background

Jr High can be such a challenging time for all students: academically, peer pressure, family challenges, friendship challenges, bullying, fitting in , managing extracurricular activities, and so much more. Unfortunately students tend to try to take this on themselves. I am excited to work with all of the students at Willis to help all of these challenges become more manageable for them. I believe in our students and their potential both academically and socially. We all want our students to feel safe, valued, challenged, supported, and respected. I am looking forward to being a part of many more success stories here at Willis Jr High! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your student.

Student participation in orchestral groups encourages an environment of teamwork and self-discipline. It is exciting to watch students of varying abilities come together to achieve a common musical goal. It is my job to help students discover their individual musical potential and to help them develop a lifelong appreciation for this dynamic art.
