Hamilton High was recognized nationally with two winners in the SIFMA (Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association) InvestWrite essay competition. Judges from the financial industry judge thousands of essays, and the competition is tough. The winning essays from Hamilton High School were submitted by Economics teacher Mike Lisi and were written by brothers Maxwell Bergman and Samuel Bergman. Maxwell earned a 4th place national finish, while Samuel earned a 7th place finish. The InvestWrite Financial Literacy Competition is sponsored by the Arizona Council on Economic Education (ACEE) and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA). Abigail Dominguez, Chandler High sophomore, was announced in the top ten for the State FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) Creed Speaking Leadership Development Event. Abigail memorized the five paragraph FFA Creed at the beginning of the school year and won the Chandler FFA Creed Speaking Contest. She continued to practice public speaking and was announced as the 7th place High Individual in the State FFA Creed Competition. Abigail took an online test, presented the FFA Creed in a live virtual contest, and answered questions about FFA and agriculture.

Lewis Alexander
SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Lewis Alexander has been a part of the Basha community for seven years, as he is also a former Basha AMS (Accelerated Middle School student). Lewis has taken multiple AP courses and maintained a 4.6 GPA, but is best known as "Mr. Lewis" in his role in our early childhood education program, where he was hired this year as an after school care worker. He is a National AP Scholar, and is receiving a national certification, the Child Development Associate credential. He was a member of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and won gold medals at state and national competitions for his contribution to our community service project, Petite Picassos. Lewis plays the guitar and drums and is a member of the National Honor Society, Chinese National Honor Society and Science is Fun. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Alec Tenorio has been an active member and officer of the Basha DECA (formerly Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter for the past two years. His hard work and dedication have helped him achieve numerous medals at the DECA District and State competition levels, qualifying him to compete at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Nashville, Tennessee. Unfortunately, ICDC had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Alec wasn't able to showcase his knowledge and skills. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Ahlias Jones loves Arizona College Prep with all of his heart. After serving as Sophomore and Junior Class president, Ahlias become the student body president this year. Kara Linder
Congratulations to Kara Linder (Hamilton class of 2018) who was honored in April as an American FFA Degree Candidate! She has worked very hard to receive this rare honor. Less than 1% of members ever receive their American FFA Degree, and Kara will be only the second member from Hamilton to receive this degree. Out of over 10,000 members in Arizona FFA, only 42 members from across the state will be receiving this award at the 93rd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October. Kara not only is an outstanding student and athlete she was able to achieve this monumental task. She is currently studying Environmental Sciences at Notre Dame and has received the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee Athlete Advisory Council (AAC) fencer of the year for the second year in a row along with numerous awards. We hope to see her in the 2024 Olympics. A great example of how academics, CTE and sports can create a well rounded and very successful student.

Our best year yet in multiple events, several students placed individually and the team was close to claiming the state Entomology title. Hamilton DECA
The Arizona State DECA (formerly Distributive Education Clubs of America) Conference was held at the Arizona Grand Resort and Spa in February. Hamilton DECA/Marketing students did fantastic and qualified for the International Conference scheduled to be held in Nashville, TN in April. Team 1, led by Manvi Harde, took 1st place in Business Service Operations. Team 1, led by Clarissa Yosick, took 5th place in Hotel and Lodging Management. Manvi Harde was also elected president of district 3. (This is really HUGE!) There were thousands of students competing from around the State of Arizona, and Hamilton students prevailed!

Graphic Design Students
Eight students from Caryn Butler's graphic design level 2 and 3 classes competed in an Advertising Design competition at the Region 3 conference of SkillsUSA. Approximately 60 students from various east valley schools competed. Four of the eight students scored in the top ten and qualified to attend the SkillsUSA State Championships in April: Holly Hames, Nicole White, Maria Durrans, and Abby Kozel. Holly took the silver medal, placing 2nd out of all of the participants. Congratulations to all of the Perry Pumas who participated in this challenging competition!

Hamilton Technical Theatre and Stagecraft students
Congratulatons to Hamilton technical theatre/stagecraft students who competed at the Central Arizona Festival of Theatre in January and nationally qualified to compete at the International Thespian Festival of Theatre. Reiley Nymeyer also received an offer at the event to attend Carnegie Mellon for Stage Management in the fall. Feeding the Future
Culinary students from CUSD took the top three spots in a statewide competition on January 11, Feeding the Future 2020: School Lunch-Inspired Bites and Beverages, hosted by the Blue Watermelon project, an initiative of Slow Food Phoenix. We are proud to announce our winners:
  • Mateline (Matty) Pace (Casteel High) - 1st place and a $5,000 scholarship
  • Keeley Erickson and Royal Schrader (Perry High) - 2nd place and $3,000
  • Brandon Park and Miqueas Barrios (Perry High) - 3rd place and $2,000
Feeding the Future details: "With mentorship from professional chefs, teams of high school students have crafted meals that adhere to both the nutritional and budgetary restrictions of the National School Lunch Program. Each team spent months testing and costing recipes with the help of Blue Watermelon Project chefs to better understand the challenge schools face everyday: how to provide delicious, nutritious and affordable lunches to students."

Perry Culinary students competed in the statewide Feeding the Future 2020: School Lunch-Inspired Bites and Beverages competition where they worked with a local chef, Chef Tamara Stanger, to create school lunches that were appealing and desirable, while meeting nutritional and budgetary restrictions of the National School Lunch Program. Each team spent months testing and costing recipes with the help of Blue Watermelon Project chefs to better understand the challenge schools face everyday: how to provide delicious, nutritious and affordable lunches to students. Congratulations to Keeley Erickson and Royal Schradder who placed 2nd, winning $3,000, and Brandon Park and Miqueas Barrios who placed 3rd, winning $2,000.
