The JA Student Stock Market Challenge is a live stock market simulation, featuring teams of high school students who compete to see who can accumulate the highest possible net worth in their investment portfolio. The exciting, fast-paced event offers a taste of what it's like to build a portfolio, manage risk, and experience its performance in a compressed period of time. Approximately 430 students (86 teams, five students per team) from around 20 valley high schools experienced the thrill of the trading floor at Junior Achievement's 2019 Stock Market Challenge Event. This industry visit allowed students a first hand look at the sales, rental and repair shop and also the printing area. The tour included a behind the scenes look into a dark room along with witnessing how slides are scanned.

Sydney Carlson & Layla Mushtaq, Sydnee Milkovic & Lauryn Terry, and Sophia Vojacek & Amanda Romano won Honorable Mention for Clubs, Academics and Sports, respectively. Thanks to Layton Construction, Whitneybell Perry Inc., and especially project manager Lisa Shea, Hamilton architecture students were able to tour a four-story office building, one-story commercial space, outdoor recreation plaza and hotel, and the new parking garage site. Each plans to continue their education in the Visual Graphic Communications field. The money can be used for tuition, books, or graphic tools such as a laptop, drawing or camera equipment. Lead4Change is a student leadership program which provides leadership lessons that align with 21st century skills and integrate literacy, social-emotional learning, and project-based learning standards. Additionally, Lead4Change provides financial support to help students with their community service projects as they apply leadership lessons and address specific needs in our community. The program teaches students to tie a tourniquet, recognize arterial bleeds and other lacerations, stuff deep puncture wounds, and apply direct pressure to any bleeding. It includes vocabulary, explanation of wounds, pictures, and then a hands-on session. Congratulations to all students who completed the training and earned "Stop the Bleed" certification.

This is the first time Casteel High has ever attended the highest competition for HOSA. Both ladies faced tough competition from around the country and world including China, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa. Quincy fell short to the fierce competitors in her event for Medical Terminology while Alexis place 2nd overall in her event, Extemporaneous Health Poster! We're SO PROUD! Our musical was in the top ten for the state for Best Musical, we won for Best Costumes, and Sophia Donnell won Best Lead Female. Sophia will go on to represent Arizona in New York City for the national competition, The Jimmy Awards. She won an all-expense paid trip for a training camp at NYU and then will perform in the same theatre as Lion King.

The students utilized their coding and tech skills to create an app for symposium attendees. The Breaking Barriers for Excellence app will help the event run smoothly by providing easy access to information about schedules, speakers, and sessions.

Sam Perez was one of 15 students from Arizona who qualified for finals, was recognized for a top role-play, and placed in the top 10 overall in Professional Selling against over 200 other competitors from around the world. Winners will be announced after our performance at ASU Gammage on May 24. Dashaun Dunn and Sophia Donnell are also eligible to win an all-expense paid trip to represent Arizona at the National High School Theatre Awards in New York.

While at Chandler High he has been an active member of Student Council, serving as Treasurer for three years and as well as the Student Body Business Manager his senior year. He is also a member of the Marketing program's DECA club where he was elected as Vice-President of Career Development. Kameron was involved in developing spirit weeks, sporting events, and club meetings and through the Honors Academic Decathlon class developed a public speaking workshop to help peers strive to be their best. She is passionate about promoting agricultural literacy, and has worked tirelessly to meet her goals. Elery is an International Baccalaureate Career-Related Program Candidate, whose reflective project was titled: "Should a farmer put the health of his/her herd at risk to align with the public's perception of animal health?" Outside of school, she is a dedicated volunteer for multiple organizations. Her service activities have taken her as far as South Africa where she taught sustainable agriculture to adults and children in the community of Mahikeng. She will attend the University of Arizona to major in Animal Science, with the eventual career goal of becoming a veterinarian. Chandler High Seniors Highlights 
Email this item to a friend Open just this item  Divider and spacer Emily SmithVisit Chandler High WebsiteReport a Problem with Item A007107Chandler High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Emily Smith is a multi-talented and extremely creative young lady who has excelled within our FFA program while taking a rigorous curriculum and pursing her passions wholeheartedly! She has been an officer in the CHS FFA chapter for the past three years and serves as President this year. She placed 1st individually in Arizona for Floriculture and won a gold medal at Nationals. Some of her many talents include learning to raise prize-winning chickens in an urban backyard, teaching herself to make her own instruments in woods (a hammered dulcimer and a 26-string lap harp) and then teaching herself how to play them, and growing and nurturing as many as 32 houseplants at one time! In addition, she was a National Merit Commended Student and will have earned an outstanding 37 college credits by the time that she graduates. Email this item to a friend Open just this item  Divider and spacer Nita KulkarniVisit Casteel High WebsiteReport a Problem with Item A007043Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Nita Kulkarni is a 4.6 GPA student and is the founder and president of the CCHS Red Cross Club, the secretary of Drama Club, and Fashion/FIDM Club Vice President as well as a member of National Honor Society and the Casteel Theatre Company. Nita is active in her community and has volunteered at Perry Public Library as well as Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. She is actively involved in drama and musical productions as well as software development programs. As a member of our top acting group, Nita has acted in both mainstage productions this year -- most recently starring as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing. On top of being immensely talented, Nita is kind, welcoming, and makes every person in the troupe feel valued. She is a wonderful person who will be missed when she graduates, but we are excited to see all of the amazing things she will accomplish! Nita will be attending ASU in the fall. Over the last four years, Josh has dedicated countless hours to several organizations including eSports, Helping PAWS, French Club, East Valley Boys Service Club, National Honor Society and Technical Theater. The Stock Market Game is sponsored by the SIFMA Foundation (Securities Industry Financial Markets Association), the Arizona Council on Economic Education and Charles Schwab. The state competition ran from February 4 - April 18, 2019. Students were given $100,000 to spend on their stock portfolios. Out of 300 participating teams of approximately 2,000 students competing in the high school division, our second place team earned an impressive 11.5% rate of return, and our 10th place team earned almost 9%. Every student placed either first or second in the state in their event category, earning a total of 11 GOLD medals and 1 SILVER medal! We will represent CUSD and AZFCCLA in Anaheim, CA at the FCCLA National Competition this summer. She is the first from CUSD to be elected to the FCCLA Executive Council.

They traveled to Tucson to compete against other high schools across Arizona in the FCCLA State Leadership Conference and all earned GOLD Medals after earning the top scores in their competitive public speaking category division. Macy Parris presented about the importance of teaching young children and their families about proper nutritional habits and exercise to prevent the epidemic of childhood obesity in our country. Lauren "Wren" Leon, Aliyah Cortez and Paige Silva competed as a team about the importance of promoting language and literacy during the early childhood years to increase cognitive and brain development. Their hard work and dedication to their education should be recognized and applauded.
