Subject: Jr High Finals weighted score
Comment: Our students have so many mental health issues they are dealing with these days and I truly believe school is a huge factor into the added stress. Over break I was told that Jr High finals would be going from 5% to 10% of their total grade for the semester. I can only imagine the added anxiety this will add to all of our students. I am all about pushing students but a time like this when we are supposed to be focusing on the whole child and not academics I really think as a district we need to focus on the priority of their mental health not add more stress to their lives. Thank you for listening!

Comment: Regarding speakers at meetings, your website states 'the governing board may not discuss or take formal action on items that are not specifically identified on the agenda but may direct staff to respond to criticism, review the matter, or schedule the matter for further consideration at a later date.' This script is also read aloud at meetings at the start of the public comments. Superintendent Narducci often responds to speakers, but I've never seen him be directed to do so by the board. Has he been given this direction off camera and, if so, by whom? Do you need to update your script to include this shift in protocol?

Comment: When a speaker comes to address the governing board with concerns, it is unacceptable for Mr. Narducci to authorize himself to have the final word when he so pleases, and especially when that final word adds nothing of substance, value, or relevance. It does not matter how many times we hear his long-winded, excuse-laden claims of how much the district cares because these overly defensive responses tell a different story. In the face of real or even perceived criticism, Mr. Narducci habitually prioritizes and centers his feelings and/or the district's image, which only serves to demonstrate just how quickly concerns/reports can and do get dismissed. Anyone who feels a need to work that hard to convince others of who they are or what they do should ask themselves who they're trying to convince, because the more that is said in these puerile responses the more obvious it becomes that the people who should care don't, and that nothing is being done to meaningfully address these concerns.

Comment: Mr. Narducci delivered one of these rogue, insulting, and very telling responses at the last meeting following a student's address. This student first spoke to the board 6 months ago, detailing bullying and violence targeting LGBTQ students at their school. They said this had been reported but nothing had been done about it, and that the situation had only gotten worse. As if to demonstrate just how readily and easily a report like this could be ignored, the board responded by ignoring her and you moved on with the meeting. Mr. Narducci also said nothing. If apathetic silence was sufficient in that moment, I wonder why it hasn't been for the growing chorus of mounting criticisms from students, parents, community members, and even licensed professionals about the district's failure to appropriately respond to this situation as well as others.

Comment: If anyone doubted what that student reported back in April, you've spent six months demonstrating what would otherwise be unimaginable if we hadn't watched it happen for ourselves: graphic reports can be brought to the immediate attention of the most powerful people in the district and nothing is done and nobody cares. It also begs the question: what else is being ignored that we just haven't heard about yet? On the evening of that initial report, a CUSD staff member said 'we can definitely get with her & address some of her concerns.' President Mozdzen you replied with 'thank you.' Has the board followed up on this? Has this student's concerns been meaningfully addressed? Lastly, if these responses from him continue, perhaps Mr. Narducci could at least refrain from identifying student speakers by name? Doing so is completely counter to your efforts to protect them and their identities. Please ask Mr. Narducci to at least consider the students even a little bit before he speaks.
