Sports Medicine
Sports Medicine 1:
This class is designed for students interested in learning about prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Topics include anatomy, physiology, first aid, CPR, physical conditioning, nutrition, therapeutic modalities, and therapeutic exercise. Students will earn the following certifications: CPR, Stop the Bleed, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
Sports Medicine 2:
This class is a continuation of Sports Medicine 1. It is designed to increase students' knowledge of injury assessment, therapeutic modalities, and therapeutic exercise to treat athletic injuries. Students will earn the following certifications: EMR and OSHA-10.
HOSA: Future Health Professionals
Sports Medicine 1, 2, and completer students will have the opportunity to participate in HOSA: Future Health Professionals. HOSA is a global student-led organization that empowers future health professionals in becoming leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and exercise. HOSA promotes career opportunities in the health industry and enhances the delivery of quality health care to all people.
National Honors Society of Sports Medicine (NHSSM)
Sports Medicine 1, 2, and completer students may choose to volunteer their time after school working with the athletic trainers. The sports medicine student aide program aims to provide essential medical coverage to athletic teams and support the athletic training staff. Through this program, students will cultivate a sense of responsibility, be accountable for their actions, and receive recognition for achieving their goals. Seniors accepted into the program may have the opportunity to earn internship credit upon fulfilling additional internship requirements. Applications are accepted year-round.
