    Head Coach Sam Duane

Coach Sam Duane just completed  his 7th season as the Boys Head Coach.  The Pumas finished the 2023 season 30-1 and finished with  back to back State Championships,  as well as the first ever Arizona State Open Champions this year. The Pumas finished the year rated number 12 in the nation by maxpreps  and  #18 by ESPN.  This was Coach Duane's 6th State title and he was also named the Premier Region Coach of the Year and the 6A Conference Coach of The Year as well as Arizona Republic Coach of the Year.

In 2018, Coach Duane was named the NFHS State Coach of the year and the NFHS Section 7 National Coach of The Year.   Before coming to Perry, Coach Duane completed a 12-year run as Tempe Corona del Sol's Head Boys Coach, where he led the program to 4 straight Division 1 State Championships.  In his tenure at Corona, his teams were 276-87, with 1 top 20 national finish, 2 top 10 national finishes and a 74 game win streak vs Arizona teams.

Coach Duane's previous coaching experiences also include stints at Phoenix College and Mesa Community College as an Assistant, and as the first Boys basketball coach in Mesquite High School's history. In his five years at Mesquite he won 1 Boys Region Championship and 2 fiesta region coach of the year awards.

Duane's overall record as a head coach is 438-196.. He has taken his teams to 6 State Championship games, 7 Final Four appearances and  has been named Arizona Coach of the Year 4 times,  Region Coach of the year 9 times and Maxpreps National Coach of the Year in 2015.

Coach Duane treasures seeing players grow and mature as not only players but young men and the relationships that are built throughout the years with players and families. He truly enjoys seeing ex players go on to be successful in their lives.

Coach Duane has a B.S in Exercise Science from Grand Canyon University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. He teaches physical education at Perry and can be reached at
