About Mr. Sargent...
Position: 7th Grade Science
I grew up with a teacher for a mother and education has always been a big part of my life. Before teaching I always found myself in the role of training and supporting others anywhere I worked. I turned that into the career of teaching and am excited to be here at Santan this year.
My Education and Professional Background
I worked in injection molded plastics manufacturing as a process technician for 7 years. While in that field, I trained others on the injection molding process, became a forklift trainer, and was part of the safety committee. I enjoyed the training aspect of my job the most and started to pursue my education certificate. I graduated with my B.S. in Elementary Education in 2018 from the University of Idaho with an endorsement in Earth and Space Science. Shortly after that, I replaced a retiring teacher at a middle school in Post Falls, Idaho. My family moved to Arizona in 2020 and I taught all subjects to 6th grade students for 2 years. Now I am happy to be starting here at Santan, going into my 5th year teaching and 3rd teaching science.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that all students deserve a strong education and that by teaching science I can encourage academic growth in all other content areas as well. Junior high can be tough for students as they change from children to young adults and are trying to find themselves. I encourage students to be responsible and independent so they can eventually become adults ready to join the world.
