Welcome to Mrs. Houg's English Class

My name is Desiree Houg (formerly Stinnett); this is my 8th year teaching English at Perry. In addition to teaching I am also Perry's Head Cheer Coach. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from ASU, and additionally earned my M.A. from ASU  making me a diehard devils fan! I love Perry, and I take pride in being part of such a fantastic school. Please check this page regularly as it will always contain everything you will need to know regarding what is happening in my class. I welcome you all, and I look forward to a great year!

I believe every child is a unique individual that is capable of learning when given the right environment and instructional activities. It is my job to create a safe and enjoyable learning environment that provides challenging and meaningful learning experiences. Building community is vital for a successful learning environment- and I believe when student's leave my classroom they are family. My vision of where my students need to be is what drives my lessons. I am a facilitator of education and I believe it is my job to make every student a reflective learner so that even when troubles arise they are able to stay motivated and continue to strive. I will build self-esteem within my students by providing them with opportunities to succeed every day. This year will not be easy, I have very high expectations for my students, but I know that with time they will exceed those expectations.  It is my goal that every student leaves my classroom with the skills that allow them to bounce back from failures; because they are capable problem solvers who are prepared for life after secondary education.
