    Welcome!

Welcome! I am excited to be teaching Honors English 9 and AP Language and Composition this year. This is my 13th year of teaching, all in CUSD, and my 3rd year at ACP. I was born and raised in Iowa before moving to Arizona with my husband, Rick. We have three wonderful adult children: Evan, Nate (current Sun Devil grad student), and Megan (current Lumberjack).

    My Education and Professional Background

I earned my B.A. in English and Secondary Education at the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!) I pursued a career in Marketing Communications, Product Management, and Business Analytics for major corporations in both the finance and home improvement sectors. Inspired by my eldest son's experiences with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and learning disabilities, I returned to school in 2010 to get my M.A. in Special Education and Elementary Education. I have taught Special Education, 6th grade, 9th grade English, and AP Language & Composition.

    My Educational Philosophy

Every classroom has its own unique sense of community. I aspire to create a supportive learning environment where students feel valued and empowered to embrace challenges, make mistakes, and grow as critical thinkers, communicators, and writers. Using a cooperative learning approach, I strive to create connections between students and what they read and write. I am passionate about inspiring students to explore their potential and become confident, lifelong learners.
