    Project Impact Club and all levels of ACP Erie Spanish students from level 1 through level 4/5 helped to make over 200 valentines in Spanish for UMOM (United Methodist Outreach Ministries), a local charity in Phoenix. The valentines were given to families working with the charity.

    ACP High School senior Kristin Myer has been named a semifinalist for the 2021 class of the Coca Cola Scholars Program, moving to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar and win a $20,000 college scholarship. Only 1,609 high school seniors were selected as semifinalists from a pool of 99,403 applications submitted from across the country based on their academic excellence, leadership and service demonstrated in school and community activities. A joint effort of Coca-Cola bottlers across the country and The Coca Cola Company, the Coca-Cola Scholars Program is the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship program in the United States.     [FILE PHOTO from 2019] Congratulations to the ACP Hydrohat team of ACP Innovators Sohani Sandhu, Abraham Troop, Kaitlyn Lai, Omina Nematova, Diya Nath, Ivan Alexander Kroumov, Jacob Kaufman-Warner, Nealin Banerjee and Daniel Wu on winning this year's Maricopa County Department of Public Health Climate and Health Champion Award 2020 in the Youth category! Their project in developing a hydrothermal-hat with sensors to monitor vital signs will play a vital role in helping to reduce heat illnesses in Maricopa County. Along with developing the Hydrothermal-Hat, their goal is to donate some of the hats to individuals and will most certainly help those most at risk of heat illness. The Maricopa County community is honored to have this team as part of our community.

    ACP Erie Knights Innovators' Hydrohat project has been nominated for the 2020 Maricopa County Climate and Health Champion Award recognition program by Maricopa County. The Maricopa County Climate and Health Champions Recognition Program was established in 2017 as part of the Bridging Climate Change and Public Health (BCCPH) Strategic Plan to build community awareness and knowledge about climate health and share information about successful interventions. This program celebrates those in our community that are working to improve health and quality of life through efforts that counter the health impacts of climate change.     ACP Erie teacher Rachna Nath was selected to attend the Research Teachers Conference from Society for Science and the Public, the only one from Arizona. Under normal conditions, this would have been an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C., but the conference is virtual this year. Rachna was also selected to be a captain and lead a group of research teachers with resources that can benefit all of the 200 research teachers attending the conference. She will be presenting on "Teaching Research Virtually: Can't Stop, Won't Stop! Research is on!"     Healthy Habits for a Healthier You
    ACP Erie sophomore Diya Nath has received amazing accolades for her book Healthy Habits for a Healthier You. This book is a compilation of two years of science research that she has done on gut micro-biome, and the connection between gut bacteria health and neurodegenerative diseases. Her book discusses how different medications we take daily -- like blood pressure meds, diabetes or even pain medications -- adversely affect our gut micro-biome. A proponent of healthy eating and healthy habits, Diya came up with 21 smoothie recipes that are antioxidant and flavonoid-rich, and explains the importance of healthy eating at an early age to stop chronic diseases. Her book has now been officially named #1 best seller in US, UK, Australia and India across nine different categories! Congratulations, Diya!

He has made it to the quarterfinals for the national award. He was nominated for his work at Willis Junior High. This award is presented by the Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Museum, the Music Educator Award was established to recognize current educators (kindergarten through college, public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools.

    Sharmila Nimbkar
    SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Sharmila Nimbkar was an active member of Speech and Debate, National Honor Society, Tutor Club, and played on the volleyball team for three years, captain during her sophomore and junior years. As a captain of the Public Forum Debate team and she spent the last two years coaching the ACP Knights speech and debate team. Sharmila was the first debate champion in ACP history in 2018 and also won the 2020 Public Forum debate state championship. Sharmila also qualified for a national silver debate bid at Columbia University in 2019. During her senior year she developed a comprehensive open source debate curriculum, accessible to all students for free and regardless of school affiliation. She was awarded the James T. Anthony scholarship after a 12 year course of study in the Arizona Study Program for piano performance and music theory.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Orchee Syed was named a National Merit Finalist, one of 15,000 nationwide out of more than 1.6 million students who enter the National Merit Scholarship competition annually when they take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). Finalists represent the top 0.5% of each state's senior students. Orchee participated actively in ACP's State-Champion Speech and Debate team, taking two trophies in the Arizona State tournament and amassing eleven individual trophies over the course of three years. She was also president of our inaugural chapter of International Thespian Society, the theatre troupe Knights On Stage Theatre Company, and performed in four of the company's shows. She is graduating summa cum laude and starting undergrad at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University in the fall to pursue a Bachelor's degree in psychology. Elaina is already making lasting change in her community, the state and even the world! (And she's under 18 years of age!) As the co-founder of Education Empowers Inc., Elaina helps to increase awareness of STEM-related activities and curriculum to kids who might otherwise not receive that instruction. He plans to attend ASU's College of Nursing and serve in the Army Nurse Corps after graduation. He is graduating this year to attend ASU and pursue his passion for cars as a mechanical engineer. Ahmad worked hard the past four years and earned the New American University Scholarship. Ahmad is a very kind and caring friend, always being the one to make people smile the second he walks into the room. We're so proud of how far he's come today.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Zoe Felbein is a senior at Arizona College Prep. She has throughly enjoyed being a Knight. Zoe has supported her school by participating in the varsity spiritline for four years and serving as a team captain her senior year. Cheering on her team at the inaugural ACP Erie football game is a high school memory she will cherish forever. Zoe also served her school by participating in student government for three years. In Zoe's senior year, she joined DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) and took 2nd in State for Hospitality and Lodging Management role play. Zoe also has a passion for ice skating and has been a competitive figure skater for 12 years, achieving Junior Ladies status nationally. Zoe will always remember her school with the fondest of memories and will embody the motto of "Strive for the Impossible and Be Extraordinary" as she attends the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to study hospitality management and marketing.     Aamina Ahmed
    SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Aamina Ahmed is graduating not only with her high school diploma, but with an Associates in Science degree as well. She will attend ASU Barrett with a major in medical microbiology on a pre-med track, and plans to attend medical school. Aamina spent six wonderful years at ACP in which she spent her high school years achieving academic excellence, graduating summa cum laude and as an AP Scholar. She participated in Key Club, National Honor Society, She's the First, Chinese Club, and Red Cross, held numerous officer positions. She devoted time to volunteering as well as playing varsity tennis for all four years, the team captain her senior year. Aamina truly enjoyed her time learning and growing at ACP and establishing cherished connections with those on campus. She is grateful for all that ACP has taught her and hopes to continue her academic future utilizing her academic, creative, and leadership skills developed at ACP.     Alex Gilchrist
    SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Alex James Gilchrist is an outstanding student-athlete who consistently strives for athletic and academic excellence and was the recipient of the Big4 Award for Track last year. A true competitor, Alex has proudly defended ACP's Knight honor on the football field, basketball court and track. Despite being diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic the first day of his freshman year and having knee surgery and shoulder injuries, Alex persevered and was one of the starters for ACP's varsity football team every year since its inception in 2017. In addition, Alex was also a true Knight on ACP's varsity track team for four years and on the JV Basketball team for two years. He was a member of the Honor Society and Key Club. Alex's hard work and dedication has resulted in graduating with academic summa cum laude honors and as an AP Scholar with Distinction.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Mariam Khan will be going to Arizona State University studying biological sciences. From a young age, she always had an immense amount of compassion for helping others and plans to pursue this passion in the medical field. Mariam's pride and joy is the school's Red Cross Club, which she founded and presided over. Outside of school, Mariam is known in our community as an avid volunteer, earning Volunteer of the Year at Helping Hands and collecting over 300 hours of service there.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Ashleigh Griffin, a member of the Arizona College Prep - Erie Class of 2020, has thrived at ACP where she was challenged both academically and personally. We are so proud of her dedication and achievements. Ashleigh has maintained a 4.5 GPA and received AP Scholar with Distinction honors. She has been a member of several clubs at ACP including National Honor Society, UNICEF, and Red Cross. In addition to academics, Ashleigh has pursued her passion for dance during the past 12 years, training at several elite ballet schools and competing both regionally and nationally with her dance team. At ACP, she was a member of the ACP Spiritline team where she served as JV and varsity captain of both the cheer and pom teams. She also competed both regionally and nationally with the cheer and pom teams. Ashleigh would like to pursue a career in medicine and hopes to become a cardio-thoracic surgeon.     Krista Rowan
    SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Krista Rowan has excelled both academically and athletically during her four years at ACP. She has received an academic letter all four years and maintained a 4.5 GPA. Krista has been actively involved in several school organizations and is currently president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. During her last two years of high school, she became involved with DECA (formerly Distributive Education Clubs of America) and currently serves as secretary. Krista has loved her time as a student athlete at ACP. She has received athletic honors as a four-year varsity athlete in both indoor and beach volleyball. She was recognized as All Region First Team and All Academic Volleyball Team all four years, as well as Region Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year in 2018. This year, Krista was named as a Triple Impact Competitor Scholarship winner.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Kevin Lu is a talented student and athlete. He is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a member of National Honors Society and National Society of High School Scholars, and world language department student of the year. While maintaining a 4.63 GPA, he has been playing highly competitive volleyball for five years and bowling for 14 years. He was a starting setter on the varsity team as a freshman, sophomore and senior, CUSD 2018 Honorable Mention, 2018 MVP, and 2019 Arizona Region High Performance Libero competing against international teams at the High Performance Championships. He was also invited to the USAV A2 camps in 2018 and 2019. He won the 2019 USBC Arizona State Pepsi Championship in the U17 scratch Division and qualified for the 2020 championship finals as well.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Nicholas Matthews is a 2019-20 National Hispanic Scholar and will graduate as an AP Scholar with Honor. He has maintained a 4.4 GPA while taking all honors, AP classes and 60 credit hours for dual enrollment since freshman year. Nicholas has earned the Impact Chandler Scholar, volunteering 110 hours of community service since 2017 helping teachers and faculty of the Center for Educational Excellence, the charter school he attended from pre-school to 8th grade. He will continue his studies at the University of Arizona Honors College to pursue a major in biomedical engineering with a minor in electrical engineering, to begin research in the use of nanotechnology with bioengineering. He has received the Dean's Exemplary Award from the UofA due to his rigorous high school curriculum.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Tendall Weigand has made the most of her high school experience at Arizona College Prep, boldly embracing every opportunity presented to her. From senior class president and being a four-year multi-sport varsity athlete to graduating summa cum laude, Tendall has embodied what it means to be a Knight, strive for the impossible and be extraordinary. While Tendall's accomplishments in her academics and athletics have resulted in numerous accolades and recognition, becoming a Dig Pink Student Ambassador and receiving the Knight Award are a few honors especially near and dear to her heart.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Nathan France is senior graduating from Arizona College Prep - Erie summa cum laude and as a National Hispanic Scholar. In addition to playing club soccer, Nathan played on ACP's varsity soccer team all four years and was captain during his junior and senior years. Nathan's senior year, he was named region player of the year, region offensive player of the year, and all CUSD first team as a forward.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Rekha Anne Wijesuriya is a senior at Arizona College Preparatory - Erie Campus who has consistently excelled both inside and outside the classroom. She is a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship at ASU, and has been accepted into Barrett, the Honors College to pursue a degree in industrial design where she hopes to give flight to her active imagination! A two-time captain of the basketball team, Rekha's love for the game, coupled with her focus and dogged determination, has led to her earning four varsity letters and chalking up the 2019-2020 First Team All Region award, as well as the 2020 Mike Desper Pursuing Victory with Honor award. But that's not all. Rekha is also the founding member and vice president of the Makerspace Club, a member of National Honor Society, ACP Erie InvenTeam and Sustainability Club, three-time Student of the Month and 2018-2019 Social Studies Student of the Year.     SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Zeryn Lewis started her career as an ACP student in the 7th grade. Zeryn has now completed her general studies and participated in extracurricular activities such as orchestra, cheer, cross country, track and field, soccer, Key Club, Black Student Union, and is currently the secretary of the Future Medical Professionals Club.
