    Divider and spacer TEAMS Competition at ASU PolytechnicVisit Chandler High WebsiteReport a Problem with Item A006842Chandler High - (2018-2019) The Chandler High math department sent two groups of students to compete in the Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS) competition at ASU Polytech. This competition required students to write an essay on artificial intelligence, answer 80 multiple choice questions in science, technology, math, and engineering, and create an apparatus (out of office supplies) that could lift a teddy bear out of a box. They were judged on the amount of materials used and well as the execution, which is a true representation of how engineering in real life works. Team B placed 1st in the state, and Team A placed 2nd in the state! Additionally, our teams placed 22nd and 28th respectively in the nation in our division.

Mrs. Mello recently competed against twelve other candidates from other southwestern states in Fort Worth, Texas and ultimately was selected as the Southwestern States Teacher of the Year Representative. Melanie is one of five finalists who will compete for the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages National Teacher of the Year Award this November in Washington, DC.

Perry German students as well as Hamilton German students took part in the exhibition that was run by German IB students from Chandler High. It was presented all in German and very informative about German inventors of 7 different themes (Optik, Kommunikation, Medizin, Mobilität, Informatik, Material, und Energie).

Her 1,000 meters time is the fastest among high school girls this year, and her 600 time is the second-fastest high school time. Morgan, an honors student with a 4.65 GPA, will be running at Stanford next year.

Individually, CHS Seniors finished the meet strong; Morgan Foster took 2nd place overall with a time of 18:04 in the 5000 Meter Run, Mihajla Milovanovic finished 11th, and Becca Taylor finished 12th. Leonela Lizarraga and Brooke Eversden, both underclassmen, also ran great times. This team has finished in 1st or 2nd place at State in each of the last four years. Morgan and Mihajla will continue their cross country careers at Stanford and Loyola - Chicago in the fall.

Ms. Komitzky has been an educator for 24 years and currently teaches English and the Senior AVID Elective and leads a number of school committees. An AVID Senior stated, "Ms. Komitzky works with each individual student to become successful and thrive in life." As part of another nomination, a teacher wrote, "Ms. Komitzy is the teacher who, at graduation, gave her own shoes to a student who was struggling because she chose the wrong heels to walk in -- she's dedicated her heart, her soul, her life to our precious students." Her impact is great, and CHS is proud to nominate Ms. Amy Komitzky for Arizona Teacher of the Year.

He completed the IB Career Related Program, seemingly tailor made for him. A self-proclaimed "smart farmer," his talents and our program offerings were a perfect match. Travis has been active in FFA at all four years of high school, winning state FFA competitions and going to Nationals every year. Through the IB Career Program, he is completing a Reflective Project about Legislating Antibiotic Use in Livestock.

    Travis will pursue a pre-veterinary track at Cornell University in the fall and is focused on becoming a veterinarian and livestock specialist.
