Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Katherine Chou and Sydney Chun (Chandler High/Chandler Online Academy) who have been named National Merit Semifinalists based on last year's PSAT NMSQT scores. About 1.6 million students in some 22,000 high schools enter the National Merit Scholarship competition annually when they take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Semifinalists are the highest-scoring program entrants in each state and represent the top 0.5% of the state's senior students.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) CHS Theatre's production of The Great Gatsby was superb! The play, directed by Ms. Stephanie Likes and Ms. Katie Kolacki, featured Elijah Newton, Charlize Cornejo, Ryan Cogley, Drew Sedgley, Liz Del Vecchio, Izzy Stephens, Zac Denny, Luke Waxman and an awesome ensemble cast. Without the outstanding stage management and other crews, this production would not have been possible. Congratulations on a great show!
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Marketing program and Student Council teamed up to sponsor CHS's 2019 Fall Fest, a community festival including rides, games, a petting zoo and food.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Carlos Aguero, has been invited to perform at the ASU School of Music's Band and Orchestra Invitational in the spring. The band received the selective invitation by earning a Superior rating at the 2019 ABODA (Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association) State Concert Festival.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Ciana Reynoso, Chandler High varsity golfer, earned an individual top ten finish in the Aguila Open Golf Tournament.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Air Force JROTC visited iFLY indoor sky diving last Monday and engaged in lessons on physics and wind tunnels and how terminal velocity can be calculated using a Algebraic equation. Cadets then suited up, received flight lessons, and had two flights in the flight chamber. After their flights, the cadets calculated their terminal velocity and came up with figures very close to what their true number was. It was a very rewarding experience.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler Girls Volleyball was named the Bronze Bracket Champions at the Westwood Tournament of Champions.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler came away with a 56-0 win over Capital Christian on the first game of the 2019 Cali Football Classic played at Moorpark High School. Mikey Keene was 10-10 completing all passes for 261 yards, Jalen Richmond had two touchdowns and Gunner Maldonado had two punt returns for 126 yards. On the ground, Dae Dae Hunter had two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, and ran for 69 yards. Nick Nesbitt ran for 77 yards and had a touchdown catch, and Rodney Clemente had a 43 yards rushing on five carries. The defense was led by Zion Magalei, Jeremiah Tyler, Anthony Hanger and Bryant Jackson. Strong defensive performances were also turned in by the linebackers Malik Reed, Tate Romney, and Kyler Orr.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Bring Change to Mind Club hosted an "I Care" table at lunch last week and encouraged students to write notes of encouragement and thanks to people they care about. Bring Change to Mind is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging dialogue about mental health, and to raising awareness, understanding, and empathy.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Mattie Shumaker and Isabel Honzay went undefeated in doubles 2 at the 2019 Forner Badminton Tournament and earned 1st place medals.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Lady Wolves Cross Country Team ran to a second place finish at the Ojo Rojo Invitational. Ava Potts, Brooke Eversden, Lauren Kazaroff, Daniela Montufar, Lauren Copeland, Alyssa Lewis and Cydney Maxson were the top seven scoring for the varsity team. In the freshman race, Destiny Hernandez ran strong for an 8th place finish.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High junior Andre Richardson has been selected to attend the Southwest Airlines 2019 Continuing the Legacy in Aviation (academy/program) at the Southwest HQ Campus in Dallas, Texas this October. In June, Andre was selected to attend a weeklong Aviation Career Education Academy and learned about the aviation field through tours and professional instructions. Andre received an award for outstanding graduate as well as the Top Flyer Award. Andre was recommended by his academy instructor to apply for the Southwest Airlines Continuing the Legacy in Aviation event that hosts students from all over the country. Andre's application was selected and he was awarded the all-expense paid trip for him and a parent to attend.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Holly Hoogstra, Chandler High senior, who was recognized with the IB Student of the Year Award at the quarterly meeting of the Arizona International Baccalaureate Schools.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Lady Wolves stepped up on a humid Saturday morning and defended their title against 32 other teams at the Chandler Invitational. Ava Potts won the sophomore race while posting the 3rd best overall time of the day. Lauren Kazaroff, in her first race as a Wolf, took home the honors, winning the freshman contest. Brooke Eversden placed 2nd in the senior run followed by Daniela Montufar, who was 10th. Sarah Plant kept things close in the junior competition with a ninth place finish.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High School DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Officers participated in the DECA Officer Leadership Camp at Lost Canyon in Williams, AZ in August.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High graduate Whitney Foster recently won third place in the world and first in the nation as a part of ASU's all-female robosub team at the Robonation International Competition in San Diego. The Si Se Puede Foundation, a valuable partner to CHS, was one of the founders of the WAVE Robotics Team. Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High Student Council traveled to Payson for a leadership retreat. Students worked to plan activities for the school year, along with activities to improve and strengthen their leadership skills.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Mr. Sam Alexander, Chandler High Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher, is inspiring students and staff school-wide with signs of encouragement, kindness and caring. He welcomes his students with a sign each day as they enter his classroom, and he walks the halls inspiring others. One student shared that he walks his friend to class just to see the "sign guy."
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler FFA (Future Farmers of America) visited Knox Elementary School to teach Pre-Kindergartens about the letters C and D. Students were able to hold chicks, play chicken poop bingo, create a chicken while learning shapes, and read a book about cows.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Holly Hoogstra, Chandler High senior, who was one of 32 students from around the country chosen to participate in the Economics for Leaders program conducted at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in July. Holly was chosen for the program because of her excellent leadership potential.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler Spanish teacher Sara Wyffels has been working with the Arizona K12 Center at Northern Arizona University as a member of the "Teacher Solutions Team." She has been a part of facilitating the Teacher Leadership Institute and this summer, they featured her as one of their 6 Teacher Spotlights for her work on "Excellence and Equity for All." Chandler High - (2019-2020) Casey Likes, Chandler High/Chandler Online Academy Senior, will be starring in a new musical based on the 2000 movie Almost Famous that is slated for Broadway in 2020. He is currently in rehearsals in New York for a run at the Old Globe in San Diego in October before they move to Broadway!
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Daniel Pacheco and Aleksandra Rosten received Exceptional Achievement Awards for their artwork at the Mesa Community College Spectrum Student Art Exhibition. Additionally, fifteen other students had work on display, and Lila Patel, part of Chandler High's AP Photo program, had her Hawaii image broadcast on all of Mesa Community College's web and print advertising.

Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High Juniors participated in Camp IB (International Baccalaureate) events and had a great time getting to know one another while receiving valuable information from Senior Diploma Candidates on topics related to negotiating the Creativity, Activity, Service Project (CAS Project) and IB Program survival skills.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High FFA (Future Farmers of America) students created 50 floral arrangements for "Make Someone Smile Day" during the first week of school. The arrangements were delivered to retirement homes.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Two Chandler High FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America)-Early Childhood teams competed at the National Competition in Anaheim, CA. Chandler's teams competed against the top two teams in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Stevie Garcia and Valerie Valdez won a silver medal in Chapter in Review . Paloma Ramirez and Marissa Palmerin won a silver medal for their Chapter Service Project: Yuda Bands.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Zach Espalin, Chandler High junior, has been named a USA Wrestling 2019 Freestyle National Championships All-American! Zach is just the 10th multi All-American in Chandler Wrestling history.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team won the State competition and will compete at Nationals in October in Indianapolis.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) DeCarlos Brooks, 2019 Chandler High graduate, was named AZCentral's Football Player of the Year.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Braxton Bradbeer, 2019 Chandler High graduate, was named AZCentral's Boys Volleyball Player of the Year.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High is one of three schools in the country to have its girls, boys and beach volleyball programs receive team academic recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Chandler Girls Volleyball earned a 3.71 team GPA. Girls Beach had a 4.27 team GPA, and Boys Volleyball earned a 3.64 team GPA.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Over 350 German language and science students, teachers, and experts on the matter of sustainability from Germany and the U.S. had the opportunity to come together in Chicago to attend the Goethe Institut's Sustainability Summit at Loyola University over Memorial Day weekend. Six Chandler High School German and Environmental Science students and their teachers, Melanie Mello and Russell Davis, were lucky recipients of a grant to participate in this summit.

Chandler High - (2018-2019) Senior Nichelle Apodaca Rocha and sophomore Mark Damacion are Chandler High's spring semester Positive Referral drawing winners and the recipients of new Chromebooks. 255 students were recognized this semester for going above and beyond and exhibiting excellence in character, and their names were entered into a drawing for Chromebooks purchased with the money CHS earned through participation in the School Cents program.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Cienna Samiley, Chandler High junior, competed at the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis against the top Level 10 gymnasts in the country and medaled on the Uneven Bars with a score of 9.675. Chandler High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Chandler High junior Casey Likes who won Best Vocalist and Best Male Lead for his role in Les Miserables. The last award makes Casey eligible for the National Jimmy Awards, so ASU Gammage is flying him to New York City June 16-25 where he will be representing Arizona and CHS at the national awards competition! Chandler High - (2018-2019) AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) sophomores completed a Spirit of Giving Project, a community service project designed to give students the opportunity to give back to their community. Students researched an organization where they could complete at least five hours of service. The project culminated in a reflection essay and poster that highlighted their experience.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Giselle Dominguez, a Chandler High senior, was a Finalist for the 2019 Congressional Art Show and will have her artwork hung in Congressman Greg Stanton's office until September.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Katherine Chou, a Chandler High junior, was a runner up for the 2019 Congressional Art Show, and her work will hang in Greg Stanton's office until the end of May.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Ninety-one Chandler High seniors have earned a Seal of Biliteracy on their diplomas and reflected on their transcripts. The seal was created to reward high school students who were proficient in English and at least one other language as evidenced by their performance on a state board approved assessment.
