Chandler High - (2019-2020) Modazz and the Chandler High Dance Department donated $750.00 in turkeys to the Chandler CARE Center for the holidays. The students and their dance teacher, Mrs. Kathie Buren, have been donating to the CARE center for nearly 30 years and have donated close to $13,000 in turkeys since 1991! Way to go!

Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High science teacher Amy Andrews was named the Phoenix Suns NAU Educator of the Month and was recognized at a Suns game. Christian Harvey had this to say about his Human Bio Teacher in the nomination: "Ms. Andrews is a great role model. She wants all of her students to do well and makes sure they're consistent with their work and their grades are up to par."
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Twelve student-athletes signed NCAA Letters of Intent to participate in athletics at the collegiate level next year during Chandler High's Fall Athletic Signing Day. Congratulations and good luck to the following: Victoria Mason, Mykah Anderson, Ashlyn Reidhead, Gabriel Garcia, Gunner Garcia, Efrain Manzo, Joseph DiCarlo, Nicole Lunsford, and Cierra Bevilockway.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Theatre Troupe attended the two-day Arizona State Thespian Conference in downtown Phoenix featuring a main stage production, dozens of one-act performances, and attend workshops geared toward honing their craft. Students were able to meet and collaborate with students from all over the state. CHS's APAC (Advanced Pantomime and Characterization) students took home a Superior Rating for their One Act titled, "Hammered: A Thor and Loki Play," one of our tech teams came home with 2nd place in one of the Tech Challenges, and 2 of our seniors took home 2 of 6 available scholarships. Nainoa Aguano won a $1,500 scholarship for his monologue/song audition, and Theo McEntire won a $1,500 scholarship for an essay he wrote about why he wants to be a theatre teacher. Additionally, EJ Newton, along with Nainoa Aguano and Theo McEntire, auditioned for college scholarships and were called back by several colleges who are interested in having them attend their schools.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Chandler High Dance Club performed at the City of Chandler's Woofstock Festival. The students did a great job, and many family members came with their furry friends to support our students.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High School National Honor Society collected clothes for the Clothes Cabin, a Gilbert nonprofit that provides clothing and household linens to people in need.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High School's "Step Up" choir concert, under the direction of Lori Lyford, with neighboring junior high and elementary schools (Andersen Junior High, Willis Junior High, Andersen Elementary, Conley Elementary, CTA Goodman, CTA Liberty, Hartford, Knox Gifted Academy, Sanborn Elementary, and San Marcos Elementary) was a wonderful experience for all the students.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High School opened a Mindfulness Room in September. Prevention Coach Sarah Hunter runs the room for students and staff. Teachers can bring their students down for a mindfulness lesson during class time and students can come in before or after school and during lunch.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Chandler High Air Force JROTC presented the nation's colors during a Veterans Day assembly at Valley Christian High School. They have been honored to present colors at the Veterans Day event for the last eight years.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The 2019 World Language Expo was an awesome display of students' talent and hard work. Thanks to Gigi Clara-Martinez, Evelyn Avitia Valverde, and Breiddy Guerrero for organizing the event and to everyone who performed on stage, or offered cultural activities, food, and fun. This year's theme was "BE KIND. THE WORLD NEEDS YOU," and CHS's World Language students and teachers decorated the courtyard with posters and crafts.

Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Chandler High Link Crew hosted a lunchtime activity to reconnect with the freshman class and have some fun! The freshmen were asked, "What would you do for an ice cream bar?" and were challenged to choose a fun activity to do with their Link Leader to earn a treat. The freshmen, along with their Link Leaders, did things like give high fives to five people, give piggyback rides, or do the chicken dance. Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Chandler High Wolves are once again the winners of the Battle for Arizona Avenue and Premier Region champs after beating Hamilton 42-38! Congratulations to Dae Dae Hunter for being named the game Most Valuable Player.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Chandler High Wolfpack Marching Band is part of the Elite Eight and have qualified for Superstate.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High students and staff participated in Rivalry Spirit Week leading up to the Chandler vs. Hamilton football game. Throughout the week, students participated in themed "VS" days where we had mathletes squaring up against athletes, elders vs. toddlers, cowboys vs. aliens, and more. Friday morning's pep rally kicked off game day, and the celebration continued through lunchtime. Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's College Application Initiative was a huge success. Seniors met with counselors and college representatives to work on completing college/postsecondary applications, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), and scholarships. Seniors who completed an application and/or the FAFSA were entered to win $1,000 scholarship and many other prizes.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Ms. Christy Herndon, CHS Early Childhood Teacher, who was selected to receive a $5,000 grant from the Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers program! The money will be used to fund Ms. Herndon's "Emotions through Literacy and Art" project, giving her high school students and those they work with in our childcare a way to express their emotions through words and art.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Forty Chandler High Air Force JROTC volunteered to assist with the City of Chandler's annual Halloween Spooktacular in downtown Chander.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Nina Anguis, Luke Bass, Melody Colucci, Esme Crawford-Paz Soldan, Alexis Gonzalez, Miranda Gonzalez, Jacob Pisors, and Jose Segovia who have been named National Hispanic Scholars for scoring within the top 2.5% on the PSAT/NMSQT amongst Hispanic and Latino testers during their junior year.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High staff and students celebrated Red Ribbon Week last week. 275 students stopped by and filled out pledges saying why drugs have no place in their future.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High Theatre and Student Council hosted its 5th annual haunted house on Saturday, and this year the theme was Twisted. The CHS Haunted House has built quite a spooky reputation, and over 1,000 chill seekers went through. The event is also a service project for Matthew's Crossing Food Bank.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High FFA (Future Farmers of America) recently visited 50 elementary school classrooms and taught approximately 1,150 students about the life cycle of a pumpkin. CHS FFA partners with the Arizona Farm Bureau with the Ag in the Classroom Program. CHS FFA was announced as the "2019 Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Outstanding Program" and will receive their award on November 16.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Modazz won first place in a Choreography Competition! Scottsdale Community College (SCC) has selected a piece that Angelina Flores choreographed, and Modazz will be performing this dance in the SCC dance performance in December. The dancers will take class, set light cues, participate in a photo shoot, perform in two performances, and be part of a question and answer session with the audience at the conclusion of each performance.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Luke Bass, CHS senior and baseball player, has been named a Player's Choice Academy (PCA) Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Finalist! A Triple-Impact Competitor is an athlete who works to improve oneself, teammates, and the game as a whole. Luke has a 4.8 cumulative GPA, is part of the IB program, and is a leader on campus and on the baseball field.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Kambria Anson, Juliette Covitz, Bryn Creek, Ezra Glenn, and Haniyah Syed have been named National Merit Commended Students! Although they will not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who took the PSAT/NMSQT.

Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Katherine Chou and Sydney Chun (Chandler High/Chandler Online Academy) who have been named National Merit Semifinalists based on last year's PSAT NMSQT scores. About 1.6 million students in some 22,000 high schools enter the National Merit Scholarship competition annually when they take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Semifinalists are the highest-scoring program entrants in each state and represent the top 0.5% of the state's senior students.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) CHS Theatre's production of The Great Gatsby was superb! The play, directed by Ms. Stephanie Likes and Ms. Katie Kolacki, featured Elijah Newton, Charlize Cornejo, Ryan Cogley, Drew Sedgley, Liz Del Vecchio, Izzy Stephens, Zac Denny, Luke Waxman and an awesome ensemble cast. Without the outstanding stage management and other crews, this production would not have been possible. Congratulations on a great show!
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Marketing program and Student Council teamed up to sponsor CHS's 2019 Fall Fest, a community festival including rides, games, a petting zoo and food.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Carlos Aguero, has been invited to perform at the ASU School of Music's Band and Orchestra Invitational in the spring. The band received the selective invitation by earning a Superior rating at the 2019 ABODA (Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association) State Concert Festival.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Ciana Reynoso, Chandler High varsity golfer, earned an individual top ten finish in the Aguila Open Golf Tournament.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Air Force JROTC visited iFLY indoor sky diving last Monday and engaged in lessons on physics and wind tunnels and how terminal velocity can be calculated using a Algebraic equation. Cadets then suited up, received flight lessons, and had two flights in the flight chamber. After their flights, the cadets calculated their terminal velocity and came up with figures very close to what their true number was. It was a very rewarding experience.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler Girls Volleyball was named the Bronze Bracket Champions at the Westwood Tournament of Champions.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler came away with a 56-0 win over Capital Christian on the first game of the 2019 Cali Football Classic played at Moorpark High School. Mikey Keene was 10-10 completing all passes for 261 yards, Jalen Richmond had two touchdowns and Gunner Maldonado had two punt returns for 126 yards. On the ground, Dae Dae Hunter had two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, and ran for 69 yards. Nick Nesbitt ran for 77 yards and had a touchdown catch, and Rodney Clemente had a 43 yards rushing on five carries. The defense was led by Zion Magalei, Jeremiah Tyler, Anthony Hanger and Bryant Jackson. Strong defensive performances were also turned in by the linebackers Malik Reed, Tate Romney, and Kyler Orr.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Bring Change to Mind Club hosted an "I Care" table at lunch last week and encouraged students to write notes of encouragement and thanks to people they care about. Bring Change to Mind is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging dialogue about mental health, and to raising awareness, understanding, and empathy.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Mattie Shumaker and Isabel Honzay went undefeated in doubles 2 at the 2019 Forner Badminton Tournament and earned 1st place medals.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Lady Wolves Cross Country Team ran to a second place finish at the Ojo Rojo Invitational. Ava Potts, Brooke Eversden, Lauren Kazaroff, Daniela Montufar, Lauren Copeland, Alyssa Lewis and Cydney Maxson were the top seven scoring for the varsity team. In the freshman race, Destiny Hernandez ran strong for an 8th place finish.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High junior Andre Richardson has been selected to attend the Southwest Airlines 2019 Continuing the Legacy in Aviation (academy/program) at the Southwest HQ Campus in Dallas, Texas this October. In June, Andre was selected to attend a weeklong Aviation Career Education Academy and learned about the aviation field through tours and professional instructions. Andre received an award for outstanding graduate as well as the Top Flyer Award. Andre was recommended by his academy instructor to apply for the Southwest Airlines Continuing the Legacy in Aviation event that hosts students from all over the country. Andre's application was selected and he was awarded the all-expense paid trip for him and a parent to attend.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Holly Hoogstra, Chandler High senior, who was recognized with the IB Student of the Year Award at the quarterly meeting of the Arizona International Baccalaureate Schools.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Lady Wolves stepped up on a humid Saturday morning and defended their title against 32 other teams at the Chandler Invitational. Ava Potts won the sophomore race while posting the 3rd best overall time of the day. Lauren Kazaroff, in her first race as a Wolf, took home the honors, winning the freshman contest. Brooke Eversden placed 2nd in the senior run followed by Daniela Montufar, who was 10th. Sarah Plant kept things close in the junior competition with a ninth place finish.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High School DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Officers participated in the DECA Officer Leadership Camp at Lost Canyon in Williams, AZ in August.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High graduate Whitney Foster recently won third place in the world and first in the nation as a part of ASU's all-female robosub team at the Robonation International Competition in San Diego. The Si Se Puede Foundation, a valuable partner to CHS, was one of the founders of the WAVE Robotics Team. ABC Good Morning America: All-female robotics team wins major awards while slashing stereotypes of women, Latinos in STEM.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High Student Council traveled to Payson for a leadership retreat. Students worked to plan activities for the school year, along with activities to improve and strengthen their leadership skills.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Mr. Sam Alexander, Chandler High Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher, is inspiring students and staff school-wide with signs of encouragement, kindness and caring. He welcomes his students with a sign each day as they enter his classroom, and he walks the halls inspiring others. One student shared that he walks his friend to class just to see the "sign guy."
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler FFA (Future Farmers of America) visited Knox Elementary School to teach Pre-Kindergartens about the letters C and D. Students were able to hold chicks, play chicken poop bingo, create a chicken while learning shapes, and read a book about cows.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Holly Hoogstra, Chandler High senior, who was one of 32 students from around the country chosen to participate in the Economics for Leaders program conducted at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in July. Holly was chosen for the program because of her excellent leadership potential.
