Welcome to Mandarin Chinese class! My name is Ran An. I’m excited to be teaching the Chinese language and culture to the young ladies and gentlemen at Hamilton High School. I cannot wait to get started teaching. I have a simple goal of making Chinese language learning fun, relevant and easy for every student.
My Education and Professional Background
I got my Master of Chinese Language & Literature from Central China Normal University. My research is on the Chinese ancient versification. I also got another master's degree from Jackson State University. Before joining CUSD, I taught college level Mandarin Chinese at Mississippi College (MC) for 8 years, and established Chinese language as a minor for undergraduate students at MC. I also taught AP Chinese for 5 years at a local charter school in Arizona. I was a board member of Mississippi Foreign Language Association in 2014. I became an AP Chinese test reader in 2008.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that to deliver students a language education led by inquiry and activity can motivate them to reach highest potential. While teaching Chinese to my students, I organize many workshops on Chinese music, art, calligraphy, and cuisine to promote their involvement with Chinese culture.
