Education is very important and has given me opportunities I never would have otherwise. I love to read, discuss, and learn; I never get tired of getting ready to go to school. Additionally I have been married for 34+ years and have three beautiful daughters: Elise is a Marine stationed in Hawaii, Marcie graduated from SPU and is an assistant manager and is in charge of marketing for a restaurant chain in Seattle, and Kris is a senior here at Hamilton who loves playing lacrosse.
My Education and Professional Background
I am a proud graduate of the University of Arizona as I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from there. My Master's degree is in Special Education for Gifted, and I am highly qualified to teach K-8 all subjects as well as social studies and history for grades 7-12. I have taught AP/Honors World History, AP Human Geography, AP US History and AVID. I also sponsor Fellowship of Christian HUSKIES and co-sponsor Model UN and Speech and Debate (Public Forum).
My Educational Philosophy
I love the connections that can be made in the WORLD STUDIES course. Mrs. Johannes and I combine assignments when we can. By tracing the history of man from his beginning to now, we will see commonalities as well as differences among peoples and cultures. Critical thinking will be an integral part of each class. By answering the question, "Why does it matter now?" students will understand that history has influenced their lives; and thus, that the choices made today affect the future. It is my goal to be the best World History teacher I can be. I expect it to be your goal to be the best student you can be. I will give you every opportunity to succeed. Let me know how we can best achieve our goals. I am looking forward to a challenging yet fun school year!
