Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Adelina Cetaj who won the state playwriting competition in November. She had her play directed by a professional director and performed for the 90 other schools present at the competition. In addition, Hamilton Theatre seniors Raven Harris, Reily Neimyer, and Xavier Valdez auditioned and received offers from colleges and universities across the nation.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Kristine McGettigan of Hamilton High who earned her National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) status for the second time. Thirty-eight teachers in CUSD have the NBCT status, and only three percent of certified K-12 teachers teaching in the United States have voluntarily worked towards and ultimately earned the rank of the NBCT title.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to lacrosse players Kateri Hernandez (Hamilton senior) and Reese Mastellon (Hamilton junior), who along with Rylee Dockery (Casteel junior) and Gabriella Valadez (Perry junior) were chosen by the Women's National Lacrosse Team to represent Team Arizona and will be traveling to the President's Cup in West Palm Beach, Florida in November. The CUSD girls were selected based on skill, athleticism, and leadership and will join other lacrosse players from the state to compete on the national stage. Hamilton High - (2019-2020) The Hamilton High School boys golf team capped off a perfect season (five tournament wins) with a victory at the 2019 Arizona Division 1 State Championship played at Omni Tucson National Golf Course! It was the team's seventh state championship in school history. The Huskies battled a talented Brophy team each day to win by three shots overall. Both teams shot 11 under par the second day.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Junior Johnny Walker played a spectacular final round with 8 birdies and no bogeys to claim the individual state title at the 2019 Arizona Division 1 State Championship played at Omni Tucson National Golf Course, with a two-day total of 136 (-10) (pictured). Sophomore Mahanth Chirravuri came in fourth place to earn All-State honors. Freshman Anawin Pickulthong came in 12th place and senior Ethan Adam came in 16th place. Freshman Ryo Ito and sophomore Nick Lippe were part of the team effort. Other teams members are senior Tyler Biberdorf, junior Alex Paul and sophomores Rohan Singh and Aiden Palermo. Additionally, senior Joy Callinan (pictured) won the girls individual state title.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Hamilton seniors Emily Abraham, Neya Balakrishna, Julia Fletcher, Margaret Han, Devrath Iyer, Sung Won Kim, Nivea Krishnan, Jihyun Lee, Chloe Leff, Ashley Lepham, Rebecca Li, Elissa Matlock, Burke Peterson, Rohan Sathe, Dev Singhania, Vaishalini Sitaraman, Kevin Tang, Antonio Valdez, Kevin Wang, Sherry Wang, Karina Yang, Sarah Zhang and Vivian Zhao who have been named National Merit Semifinalists based on last year's PSAT NMSQT scores. About 1.6 million students in some 22,000 high schools enter the National Merit Scholarship competition annually when they take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Semifinalists are the highest-scoring program entrants in each state and represent the top 0.5% of the state's senior students.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to the Hamilton Chess Team for winning the AIA State Team Championship in November! They went with a perfect 5-0 to the tournament, completing their perfect 19-0 season -- the first in school history! As the top-seeded varsity team, Rick Sun, Kenneth Su, Joseph Wang, Michael Chen, and Vincent Sin defeated the second, third, and fourth seeds in three straight matches en route to their title. Their compilation of 54 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie over the last three seasons has given them their second title in three years, only missing the title last year on tiebreaks. With the chess team only in their fourth season, they have truly accomplished a great feat. In addition, Aryan Eksambe took first in the JV section, and Harry Winsberg also took a top-10 finish. Anvi Joshi, Miro Vanek, and Andrew Quan rounded out yet another strong showing of Hamilton's depth in the JV section, scoring well above expectations.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to the Hamilton Math Team for their performance at the Carol Edwards Excellence in Mathematics Competition on Friday, Nov. 1 at Chandler-Gilbert Community College! They placed second overall as a team, and also earned individual awards in both divisions, with Michael Chen taking 6th in Division 1 and Richard Thor taking 2nd in Division 2. Other members of the team included Tristan Ma, James Lee, Sungmin Park, Xenia Zhao, Eddie Zhang, Rick Sun, Alec Gonzalez, Joshua Grumski, Ryan Gan, Feyi Adebekun, and Richard Cheng.

Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Hamilton Business and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) students participated in the 2019 Stock Market Challenge sponsored by Junior Achievement. The JA Student Stock Market Challenge is a live stock market simulation, featuring teams of high school students who compete to see who can accumulate the highest possible net worth in their investment portfolio. The exciting, fast-paced event offers a taste of what it's like to build a portfolio, manage risk, and experience its performance in a compressed period of time. Approximately 430 students (86 teams, five students per team) from around 20 valley high schools experienced the thrill of the trading floor at Junior Achievement's 2019 Stock Market Challenge Event. Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Hamilton's AP Seminar with African Diaspora content class presented their current research projects for Dr. Lisa Aubrey, associate professor of African and African American Studies in the School of Social Transformation at ASU. Hamilton teacher Audra Johnson, Dr. Adama Sallu, and Dr. Lisa Aubrey have developed a partnership with the goal of enhancing students' academic and postsecondary success. The students will attend one of Dr. Aubrey's classes at ASU in December!
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Hamilton High teacher, Angelica Russo, who was one of five CUSD teachers surprised Thursday, October 31 with a 2019 Fiesta Bowl Wishes for Teachers grant.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Huskies badminton, under the direction of Lauren Regester, had a terrific season and advanced to a title game for the first time on Thursday, October 31 in an all-CUSD State Division I championship game at Mesquite High School. Hamilton's Rujuta Sane captured the 2019 single championship. Rujuta is a 4.7 student who is also the top girls runner on cross country.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) James Flannery's architectural drafting students took a tour of new construction in downtown Chandler and asked many questions. Thanks to Layton Construction, Whitneybell Perry Inc., and especially project manager Lisa Shea, Hamilton architecture students were able to tour a four-story office building, one-story commercial space, outdoor recreation plaza and hotel, and the new parking garage site. Hamilton High - (2019-2020) After being named a finalist in 2017, Hamilton High science teacher Debbie Nipar was named a recipient of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math and Science. She traveled to Washington D.C. last week to be recognized. Established in 1983, this is the highest award given by the U.S. Government to kindergarten through 12th grade teachers of mathematics and science, including computer science. Awardees come from schools in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools, and schools in the United States territories of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands. Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Hamilton High Assistant Principal Dick Baniszewski spent fall break in China. He was part of a delegation that visited Duhiangyan High School as part of an educational trip. He represented CUSD, Chandler, Arizona and the country admirably. Hamilton High - (2019-2020) During an afternoon ceremony, Hamilton High students Zana Ryan, editor; and Nolen Coley, cinematographer; earned a student production Rocky Mountain Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences from their work in the category of "High School Student Craft Editor" for their Hamilton High track promotional video.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Hamilton High School is currently piloting an AP course developed through a partnership between the CollegeBoard and the African Diaspora Consortium: AP Seminar with African Diaspora content. This is the first ever AP course with an African topic, and Hamilton is proud to be the first school in the western US to offer this course. The Senior Executive Director of the African Diaspora Consortium, Rhonesha Blaché, visited with the class and facilitated a lesson about changing perceptions of Africa. Hamilton students have also had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Adama Sallu as a guest speaker and attending a 1619 commemoration event during which Dr. Sallu was a panelist. A university partnership is also a part of this pilot program, so students will have opportunities for field trips to ASU and graduate student mentorship as they conduct research.

Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Hamilton senior Devrath Iyer was selected to attend the prestigious Research Science Institute (RSI), jointly sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Education and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. RSI is an intensive, six-week program that gives students the opportunity to conduct original, cutting-edge science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) research in state-of-the-art university laboratories, hospitals and corporate research facilities in Boston and Cambridge, MA. His accomplishment was recognized by Hon. Andy Biggs, Arizona Representative, in the records of the 116th US Congress and by Governor Doug Ducey via a commendation from the State of Arizona.

Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Hamilton Theatre won several state awards after their performance on May 24 at ASU Gammage. Our musical was in the top ten for the state for Best Musical, we won for Best Costumes, and Sophia Donnell won Best Lead Female. Sophia will go on to represent Arizona in New York City for the national competition, The Jimmy Awards. She won an all-expense paid trip for a training camp at NYU and then will perform in the same theatre as Lion King.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) In an overnight game on May 15, Hamilton High, under the direction of Coach Mike Woods, won the 6A State Baseball Championship against Corona Del Sol 8-1 at Tempe Diablo Stadium. The first pitch was not thrown until 10:39 p.m. by freshman pitcher Logan Saloman. The last was thrown at 12:30 a.m. It was the third state title in four years and the seventh overall for the Huskies.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Jennalynn Fung has been selected as a contributor for the 2019 edition of Apprentice Writer. Her photography piece, Fantasies Woven in Thread, will appear in the publication this fall. Apprentice Writer received student submissions from nearly 20 countries in this 37th year of publication.

Out of over 1,800 high school students from more than 80 countries, regions, and territories around the world competing May 12 - 17 in Phoenix at the prestigious 2019 International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the team of Abby, Ella and Thalia won 4th place overall in the category of Biomedical and Health Sciences and $500 for their project titled Identifying Key Pathways/Mechanisms for the Generation of Pancreatic Beta Cells by Trans-differentiation of Acinar Cells. 2019 ISEF Grand Award winners

Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Hamilton sophomore Jessica Zhang who was selected by the University of South Carolina as one of the 20 best young pianists from across the U.S. and has been invited to participate in the 17th annual Southeastern Piano Festival June 16-23. Participants will take daily lessons with university piano faculty, attend master classes with guest artists who are among the world's top pianists and practice up to five hours a day. The festival culminates with the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition featuring $9,000 in cash prizes. Jessica has studied piano since the age of six and has won multiple piano awards. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Christian Weninger is a member of the Hamilton High Class of 2019. He has been extremely active on campus, participating in DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), Motivational Outreach Organization and FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) Fashion Club. Christian is a persevering entrepreneur and has already established a business where students can display and share their artwork on his online magazine. His company also sells clothing along with planning fashion shows across the valley. Christian is outgoing and conveys his astonishing personality on campus and with everyone he meets. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Akshay Murali has been very involved on campus. He is in the top 20% of his class and has accomplished much in his two years as a Hamilton Husky. He is the vice president of ASCE (American Society Of Civil Engineers) Club and the USA Computing Olympiad. Akshay also participated in Robotics Club and served as treasurer and statistical analyst for Interact. He recently placed 3rd at the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair (AzSEF) in Environmental Engineering. Moreover, Akshay has been very active in the community, volunteering at Feed My Starving Children every week. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Please congratulate our state champion Boys Double team of Neil Bhardwaja and Rahul Bhat! This is the 2nd year in a row that our Boys Tennis Double team has claimed the state championship. We are so proud of these seniors and Coach Gonzalez for all of their hard work.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Our 2019 girl's tennis season came to an end, but not before making an improbable run into the state championship match where Hamilton finished as the state runner up behind Xavier.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) After four and a half hours of battling with Brophy, the boys tennis team ended with a score of 3-5, state runner-up champions! The boys had an incredible regular season at 13-1 and finishing 2nd in state! We are very proud of these tough young men!
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Madeline York has enjoyed her four years pole vaulting for the Hamilton Varsity Track and Field team. At the Arizona State Division I Championships, she pole vaulted to a 4th place finish her freshman year and 3rd place finish her junior year. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Students Jerry Sun (Cornell-bound senior), Travis Zhang (Junior), and Daniel Hsu (ASU-bound senior) are playing a pivotal role as CUSD prepares for the inaugural Summer Equity Symposium - Breaking Barriers for Excellence. The students utilized their coding and tech skills to create an app for symposium attendees. The Breaking Barriers for Excellence app will help the event run smoothly by providing easy access to information about schedules, speakers, and sessions.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Chandler Wolves and Hamilton Huskies students worked together with CTA/EPA Humphrey sixth graders in a "Courage Retreat." Students learned to follow their hearts and not the crowd.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) The following Hamilton actors and technicians qualified as Top Ten Finalists in the Arizona High School Musical Theatre Awards (local High School Tony Awards) for Little Women the Musical! Winners will be announced after our performance at ASU Gammage on May 24. Dashaun Dunn and Sophia Donnell are also eligible to win an all-expense paid trip to represent Arizona at the National High School Theatre Awards in New York.

They competed at the State Leadership Convention for our HOSA club (Future Health Professionals, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America), winning first place for their public service announcement entitled "First Moments." Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Carson Beck was busy last summer learning to fly. He was one of 120 student cadets from around the world accepted into the inaugural class of the U.S. Air Force Flight Academy, where he earned a pilot's license. Carson was awarded the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Cadet of the Year for Arizona. He is currently a unit commander in JROTC. In addition, Carson is busy serving as Executive Officer of fundraising for Hamilton's Student Government and worked as President of LINK Crew for the past two years. In his free time, he has managed to earn the highest rank in Boy Scouts, the prestigious Eagle Scout. Carson will be attending the University of Colorado Boulder on a Marine ROTC Scholarship. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Destinee McCaster is heavily involved in both school and community theatre, winning Superiors and several first places for group, duo and solo performances and directing. Destinee placed first at the Chandler Film Festival for her Public Service Announcement. Her college submission short film on mental health won several awards. She is currently serving as president for both Drama Club and Film Club, as well as vice president of Urban Lemmings, an improv troupe. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Ellen Napolitano won the 2018-2019 Jerome McDonough Arizona State Playwright competition. She is the current president of National Charity League (NCL) San Tan Chapter and has been an NCL volunteer for six years. Ellen attended Teen Leadership Academy her junior year and had the opportunity to intern with the Chandler Mayor for a week. Ellen represented Hamilton at Arizona Girls State this year. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Jennifer Curry made us Husky Proud by becoming a state champion in wrestling during the first year it was an AIA sanctioned sport for girls in Arizona! She maintains a rigorous academic schedule while blazing a path in her sport. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Hamilton student Daniel Obarski who was selected as the Boys' Arizona State Winner in the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Student Athlete Scholarship Competition. He received a plaque and a $500 check. Additionally, his application will go onto compete in the next round for a chance at that national award.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Hamilton Academic Decathlon competed in Minneapolis in April against 72 other teams from the US, the UK and China (approximately 876 students). Our Huskies made Arizona proud! Team results:

Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Leila Cook, Beth Goldsobel, Claire Mraz and Cianna San Nicolas who placed 2nd, and Darius Alston, Rey Lamostre, Mason Messenger and Trysten Zapata who placed 10th in the 2019 Spring Stock Market Game Competition. The Stock Market Game is sponsored by the SIFMA Foundation (Securities Industry Financial Markets Association), the Arizona Council on Economic Education and Charles Schwab. The state competition ran from February 4 - April 18, 2019. Students were given $100,000 to spend on their stock portfolios. Out of 300 participating teams of approximately 2,000 students competing in the high school division, our second place team earned an impressive 11.5% rate of return, and our 10th place team earned almost 9%.
