Casteel High - (2018-2019) OUR GRADUATES:
We are proud to report that during the 2018-19 school year, Casteel High students earned:
Casteel High - (2018-2019) Casteel Junior High Academic Pentathlon, under the direction of Sheila Wilson, finished fifth overall at nationals in Nashville Tennessee. Additional awards include:
- A whopping $11,320,621 in scholarships!
- 1,826 hours of college credit (Dual Credit), and
- 11,381 hours of service learning
The team earned a total of 21 top 10 finishes. They represented Casteel well and made a big impression in their rookie year.
Casteel High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to our Individual and Relay Track and Field Division I State Champions for 2019:
- Ajay Maslanka - Bronze in Math, 4th in Science and 9th overall in Honors
- Tiara Furukawa - 4th in Social Science and 8th overall in Scholastic division
- Kendall Smith - 4th in Literature and 8th overall in Varsity division
- Ernie Clark - 4th in Science and Math
- Steven Donaldson - 4th in Science
Casteel High - (2018-2019) Ms. Bandin's 10th grade geometry students went to I-Fly for their STEM field trip, which included a hands-on lesson in terminal velocity and indoor skydiving.
Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Lindsay Charvet is driven and determined to do her best and is very helpful to her fellow classmates. Lindsay exemplifies Courage, Character and Commitment with her work ethic and personality. She is one of the kindest, hardest workers at Casteel and maintains a 4.2 GPA. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Joshua Hattaway is always prepared for class, contributes to the discussions, and is a wonderful person. He is a Chandler Education Foundation Impact Scholarship award winner, has a 4.0 GPA and is an outstanding example of where hard work will take you. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Emily Kellogg is extremely dedicated to her education, actively engages in her classes and encourages others to strive to be their best. A member of our Project Lead the Way Cybersecurity class, Emily has a bright future. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Eli Ludwig is a respectful student who leads by example. The way he goes about his business, day in and day out, exemplifies not only the three Cs (Courage, Character, and Commitment) but also what being a baseball player and a short stop is all about. As a three year varsity starter, Eli has proven to be reliable on and off the field. He has been an anchor in the lineup throughout three region championship seasons and earned a spot on the All-State 2nd team during his senior season. Eli maintains a strong 3.8 GPA, all while taking AP classes and being a member of Casteel's Baseball team. He will attend NAU to study Criminal Justice. Casteel High Seniors Highlights

Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Alexia Stewart values higher level learning and is never fearful of a challenge. She is courageous about working through any obstacles that confront her. She is an outstanding member of our school community and assists others by working as a Peer Facilitator. Alexia is also a member of both the band and choir programs at Casteel. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Maddie Zook shows leadership both in the classroom and on the soccer field. Maddie is kind to all and has worked hard to graduate with honors. She spends countless hours on the soccer field and has been recognized as a scholar athlete. Maddie has a 4.0 GPA and will attend U of A on the Wildcat Excellence Scholarship to study Business. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Bryce Mortensen consistently exemplifies the three Cs of Courage, Character and Commitment. Bryce has not missed a wrestling practice in three years and is always the last to leave a facility, cleaning up any trash and leaving the the place better than he found it. A great student, Bryce will receive the Arizona Dairy Council's All-American Wrestling Award for his academics and service. Casteel High Seniors Highlights
Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Madison Officer is consistent in her efforts in calculus as she diligently works and tutors others in the class. She is generous, goal oriented, and positive. Madison has a 4.2 GPA while taking multiple AP classes. In addition to being an outstanding student academically, she also shines artistically in sculpture. Madison will attend U of A on the Wildcat Distinction Scholarship and three private donor scholarships to study Neuroscience. Casteel High Seniors Highlights
Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Casteel High senior Austin Ponsness has a true gift for working with individuals with special needs. He treats everyone as his best friend and appears equally happy whether on the basketball and volleyball court or working in the special needs classroom as a peer facilitator. Austin is comfortable in his own skin and non-judgmental of others with differences. Austin understands and embraces the hard work necessary to be successful and achieve one's goals. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Connor Miller has a great attitude about being challenged as a learner and working to learn new skills and concepts. He is strongly committed to mastering whatever is presented to him, regardless of the difficulty level. Conner has a 4.2 GPA. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Maryssa Orta always works hard and strives to deeply understand whatever she is learning. She is consistently polite to teachers and classmates and is always willing to help her fellow students when they need help. Maryssa is a great student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She is committed to academics by always finding classes that are challenging, and has taken multiple AP classes at Casteel. Maryssa will attend U of A to study English. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Rebecca Ray has been concert master for the Casteel Chamber Orchestra all four years, taking our school to Regionals for four years and two years to State. She has maintained a 4.56 GPA while taking a full course load of AP classes. Rebecca is a multi-talented student who is able to shine both academically and musically. She consistently demonstrates Courage, Character and Commitment in everything she does. Rebecca will attend ASU on the Presidents Scholarship and Special Talent Scholarship (Violin). Casteel High - (2018-2019) Casteel High's chorale students recently traveled to New York with their teacher, Cami Clausen. They were participated in a private clinic with a cast member from Mean Girls (Broadway show) who taught them a dance combo and a Broadway music director who gave Broadway tips and taught harmonies from the show. They performed at Queen's College for an adjudication panel who gave Casteel a 98/100 and said they had "something special." They performed with other top choirs from around US and Canada in a Nationals choir at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Dr. Z Randall Stroope.
Casteel High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to the Casteel DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter on their amazing success at their first International Career Development Conference (ICDC) competition in Orlando in April. Sam Perez was one of 15 students from Arizona who qualified for finals, was recognized for a top role-play, and placed in the top 10 overall in Professional Selling against over 200 other competitors from around the world. The Casteel chapter also received an award for having the highest percentage increase in chapter membership from last year to this year in all of Arizona! Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Casteel senior Sam Perez is an outstanding student. In April, he placed in the top 10 in the "Professional Selling" category at the International DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) competition in Orlando, Florida after competing against more than 200 students from around the world. Additionally, he was the only student from CUSD to move onto finals, and one of about 15 students from Arizona to make it to the top 10. Sam has been accepted into Barrett, The Honors College at ASU. Casteel High - (2018-2019) The Casteel High School Symphonic Band and Symphonic Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Drew Eary, traveled to Chicago, Illinois to participate in the 2019 Heritage Music Festival. They earned first place wins with Gold and Silver Ratings.
Casteel High - (2018-2019) Casteel HOSA (Future Health Professionals, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America) and Sports Medicine Program students qualified in the top three of their competitive events at the HOSA State Leadership Conference to qualify for the HOSA International Leadership Conference at Disney World in Orlando, Florida this summer! Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: It is hard to overstate the meaningful contributions David Barrientes has made to our school and surrounding community. He is one of the most caring and driven students who makes profound contributions both in and out of the classroom. An incredible student athlete, David helped propel the Varsity Soccer team to post-season conference playoffs. His sense of duty to his community comes from a deep sense of social justice that stems from continuing to volunteer in school well after his class schedule is complete. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Allison Meyer is an example of what hardwork and dedication can get you. She is very strong academically, but responds to novel tasks of her abilities with courage and determination. Allison excels on the soccer field, in her community service and has a part time job. She has As in all of the honors and AP classes that she takes. Through all of this, she continually helps those students around her and works to be the best possible person she can be. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Pamela has been a teacher assistant and peer facilitator in math all school year. She has shown the ability to help teachers, students and other staff in a wide range of activities. Pamela continually runs interventions for students that are struggling in math and helps them understand the complex concepts of mathematics. Pamela is going on to the University of Kansas after graduation where she will excel in wherever her adventures take her. Casteel High Seniors Highlights

Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Eric Babcock participates in extracurricular activities, serves on committees, plays basketball and still has time to maintain a high GPA and take the highest level classes. Beyond that, he is so friendly and always has a smile for everyone who crosses his path. He is a student who can be depended on to go the extra mile -- both in athletics and academics. Not only does he work hard to get top grades, he is passionate about learning and challenging himself. The words that best describe Eric are compassionate, cerebral, curious, and committed. And, as these all begin with C's, it is fitting that they describe a student who truly represents the best of Casteel High School, a school founded on three C's: Courage, Character, and Commitment. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Timothy Mayhew started wrestling at Casteel on May 5, 2016, which was the first night he ever put on wrestling shoes. He worked very hard in his three seasons to overcome a late start in the sport and qualified for State all three years, including a 5th place at State finish this year. Timothy was selected on to the All CUSD Wrestling 1st team, and earned All State Honorable Mention All Academic Team with a 3.83 GPA. She is able to juggle a variety of activities yet is still able to show up to class with a positive attitude ready to learn. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Jayleen Bracamontes was new to Casteel (and CUSD) this year. Though a really tough time to transfer schools, you'd never know she was a new student. She jumped right in, developed friendships quickly, and made herself right at home at Casteel. Jayleen is a very hard worker, extremely polite to all teachers and inclusive of all peers. She truly exemplifies the 3 Cs at Casteel. A model student, Ms. Bracamontes has added Honors and AP classes to her schedule to ensure that she is always challenged academically. She is a responsible, intelligent and personable young woman, and handles all situations with an air of grace and maturity. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Tyler Christensen is one of only handful of students in the state who have been selected through audition as a four-year All-Stater for choir. He is the number one bass in the state this year. He plans to pursue music in college. Tyler is a hard worker and a gifted teacher. He currently student-teaches the junior high advanced choir, and they respond very well to his leadership, humor, and musical know-how. Tyler has held a leading role in every musical during his 4 years here. He is a gifted actor in our company theatre program and is also is a successful playwright. Tyler served as the Casteel marching band's drum major (conductor) during his sophomore year. He plays several instruments and is an all-around top-notch musician and performer. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Cooper Christensen was one of the pioneers in terms of getting our student cheering section built and is very involved and influential in school spirit at Casteel. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: William Clayton is a quiet young man with an infinite range of success! He aced the AP Physics 1 Exam last year with a 5, and diligently works to be the best at all classes and what he is working on. William is one of the brightest minds leading this new generation, and we expect to see him achieving greater and greater successes as he goes through life. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Madison (Maddie) Cook has worked diligently to perform to her maximum potential. She is Student Body President, a top 10 academic performer and is involved in many other school activities. Maddie is considered by her teachers to be one of the most academically driven students. She's been a leader in the program since the first day and has been Drum Major for the Colt Marching Band for the last two years. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Anya Keller is an outstanding student in class. She placed 1st at the DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) state competition, qualifying for internationals. Anya is creative and challenges herself in everything she does, striving for perfection in all of her work. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Carleigh has set the bar for math classes at Casteel. She is one of three students who are in differential equations and multivariable calculus on campus! She is also a National Merit finalist and one of the most friendly and helpful students on campus. Throughout her four years at Casteel, Carleigh has taken part in many of the different aspects of high school and has excelled in all of them with a smile on her face and a helping hand for those who struggle. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Lauren Schneider is not only a strong student academically, but an extremely well-rounded young lady with a heart of gold. Despite a life long medical condition, Lauren has always been determined to not allow her struggles to hold her back. She has donated more than 400 hours to many community service efforts, has been very involved on campus in academics and clubs, is a gifted artist, and still manages to hold down a part-time job. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Serena Smith is always attentive and demonstrates interest in her studies and subjects. She invariably shows up to class with a smile on her face and is one of the most respectful and responsible students. There is never a task too daunting for her, and her peers look up to her. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: In identifying what designates a Casteel Colt, Carley Stewart is that individual. As Casteel's culture is focused on the three C's, Carley seems to have been born with a belief in all of them: Courage, Character, and Commitment. She courageously embraces opportunities that challenge her to grow, demonstrates character on a daily basis through ethical and compassionate actions and words, and is committed to getting the absolute most from her education and the opportunities she embraces. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Nita Kulkarni is a 4.6 GPA student and is the founder and president of the CCHS Red Cross Club, the secretary of Drama Club, and Fashion/FIDM Club Vice President as well as a member of National Honor Society and the Casteel Theatre Company. Nita is active in her community and has volunteered at Perry Public Library as well as Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. She is actively involved in drama and musical productions as well as software development programs. As a member of our top acting group, Nita has acted in both mainstage productions this year -- most recently starring as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing. On top of being immensely talented, Nita is kind, welcoming, and makes every person in the troupe feel valued. She is a wonderful person who will be missed when she graduates, but we are excited to see all of the amazing things she will accomplish! Nita will be attending ASU in the fall. Casteel High - (2018-2019) Connor Harney received a Superior in lighting design at the Central Arizona Festival of Theatre, qualifying to compete in the International Thespian Festival.
Casteel High - (2018-2019) In its rookie year the Casteel Junior High Academic Pentathlon team, under the direction of Sheila Wilson and Taylor Kerby, took first place at the state competition. The Casteel team is currently ranked third in the nation and has been invited to nationals in May in Nashville, Tennessee.
