    Welcome! I'm so excited to be joining the Casteel math team and looking forward to an amazing year!

    My Education and Professional Background

    I graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Secondary Education (Mathematics). I fell in love with Casteel while doing my student teaching here. I am a CUSD graduate myself (from Hamilton High) and am so excited to be returning to such an amazing district and a great school. This year I am teaching three of my favorite math classes: Honors Pre-Calc and AP Calc AB/BC. 

    Before becoming a teacher, I was an instructor and center director at Mathnasium, an after-school learning center, for 5 years. I taught roughly 300 students from 2nd grade all the way through college, giving me experience with both accelerated learners engaging in high levels of math and with struggling students building a strong foundation. 

    My Educational Philosophy

    It's my job as a teacher to empower students to take responsibility for their own education and to meaningfully engage with math. Although math education used to be about memorization, true understanding of math and its value comes from experiencing it in action and developing problem-solving skills. My students will learn concepts and justifications first, and algorithms second. You never forget what you truly understand!
