"Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well."
-- Theodore Roosevelt

Welcome!

Welcome to Casteel High School! My name is Ryan Meyn, and I teach World History and Geography.

My Education and Professional Background

I attended PV High School, and played Men’s Volleyball for Scottsdale Community College. I graduated from ASU in 1999 with a BA in Elementary Education. I have taught over 15 years. I have taught and coached at Santan Jr. High for 12 years. Before that I taught 4th grade and 6th grade in Central Phoenix and Scottsdale. I was awarded the Sun Lakes Rotary Teacher of the Month Award in 2009. I have also served as a member of the district's Social Studies Cadre for 7 years, and I also have a full ESL endorsement. I was born in New York but I have spent most of my life in Arizona. My wife is a 5th grade teacher at Riggs Elementary, and we have boys. I love to play volleyball (sand and indoor), golf, and I also enjoy surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding.

My Educational Philosophy

My Educational Philosophy is simple: 1. Be an Effective Teacher! The three characteristics of an Effective Teacher are: have good classroom management skills, teach for mastery, and have positive expectations for student success. 2. Your expectations of your students will greatly influence their achievement in your class and in their lives. 3. All students can and will succeed, no exceptions. My Education Philosophy is based on Harry K. Wong’s book The First Days of School: How to Be an Effective Teacher.
